Hotels near Nishijin, Kyoto

"Location: About a 10-minute walk from Kyoto Nijo subway station, with a bus stop called 'Senbon-Nijo' about 50 meters from the entrance. Kyoto buses get really crowded, so I ended up preferring the subway. In Kyoto, a city with so many tourists, this hotel is in a neighborhood with a good number of local residents, making dining and shopping convenient. I really liked that atmosphere. It’s also not far from Sanjo and Shijo, the busiest areas in Kyoto. Service: The lady who checked me in was a dark-skinned foreign worker. She was quite thorough in explaining the hotel's policies to me in English. For checkout in the morning, it was a Japanese gentleman, and I just had to hand over the key card. I only discovered there were tea bags at the front desk when I checked out; they didn't seem to be out during check-in. Room Amenities: I'd say the room quality is upper-mid-range for a budget hotel, and the price reflects that. The bed was quite comfortable. The downside might be that rooms facing the street get some noise from traffic. I noticed there were some Western tour groups staying here, so it gets quite a bit of foot traffic. Soundproofing between rooms was decent. Public Bath: A bit underwhelming, just a small pool. It's not a hot spring, just a regular hot water bath, and there's no sauna. Luckily, it wasn't crowded when I went."

"4star with hostel level, incredibly overpriced. Picked myself a deluxe twin hoping to get a little more space, but the room was way too ascetically equipped. Entryway with no bench to put on shoes, no closet for your things. Need to get into bed to switch off the lights in the hall . Towels are under the counter at the room, nothing close to the bathroom. Have to pick up your water, slippers and toiletries from reception downstairs. Randomly untidy - like greasy sticky light switches, smelly pajamas, stains on bedsheets, stains of leakage under coffee machines. Plastic cutlery at the restaurant is simply unhygienic, breakfast options are quite so so. At least was very well soundproofed. Self check-in and check-out instantly downgrade experience. Staff is super sweet though, and location is great. Would be super frustrated if it was my only stay in Kyoto"

"The cleaning staff was extremely friendly and helpful, which I really appreciated. Complimentary water and coffee at the reception were also a nice touch. The location of the hotel is good, and the bathroom was modern and very clean. Unfortunately, the sleeping area of the room was not very clean, which affected the overall impression. Also, the bed is only made every three days, which I personally found inconvenient for a hotel stay. The reception staff, on the other hand, did not seem particularly friendly or welcoming. Overall, the stay was okay, but there is definitely room for improvement regarding service and room cleanliness."

"good hotel, cleaning is only once in a three days, but it’s thorough. a lot of space in the room but maybe it could be better in terms of storage space. we didn’t hear any noises from outside at night, the neighborhood is quiet. good location. the staff is not very friendly but it didn’t affect our experience. there are only two washing machines in the whole hotel and the laundry is very expensive"

"With luggage, this hotel was a convenient ten minute walk from Kyoto Station. The room was neat and clean and very quiet (I was on the side away from the street); the pillow was very firm. The breakfast buffet was busy with a waiting line, but moved quickly, and it offered a large assortment of fresh and tasty options for all palates. I paid for a room with breakfast, but had to leave early on departure day, so was disappointed I was unable to use the breakfast coupon. A helpful assistant at the front desk spent time trying to figure out if I could order a box breakfast or get a refund for the missed meal, but neither was available."

"The hotel rooms are spacious and have smoking rooms and a small living room. Although it's located between two subway stations, about a 30-minute walk, there are many attractions nearby. It's a short distance from convenience stores, so it's advisable to buy your necessities upon exiting the station. The room facilities are a bit old. Hopefully, the hotel can update the furniture. However, it was very clean. The food at the hotel is delicious and inexpensive. They also have kaiseki set meals at reasonable prices! Many of the staff are very experienced and can communicate in English. The hotel has been open for about 30 years and is perfect for those who appreciate a retro style. The Kyoto Imperial Palace is right across from the hotel."

"I booked this hotel on a weekday after a local long holiday, and the price was a great deal. However, the check-in experience was not discounted at all; the room even felt quite spacious. The location is in the city center, with convenient transportation and plenty of dining options nearby. I've stayed at two different Mitsui Garden Hotels in Kyoto, and my impression of the brand has definitely improved."
