We stayed at Hotel Gracery Kyoto for two nights and overall had a very comfortable stay. The hotel has two sections, and we stayed in the South building. The room was very clean, and the space was used efficiently, which is typical for Japan.
The bathroom layout was a bit unusual. The toilet and shower are separate, which is convenient, but the toilet cubicle itself is extremely small. The shower is positioned in an odd space between the bath and what seems to be the shower floor, and the shower head cannot be adjusted up or down. That said, the water pressure and temperature were excellent, which made up for the layout.
Bottled water was provided on the first day, which was appreciated. The TV, however, was very limited with only Japanese channels and no access to Netflix or other streaming services.
The location is excellent. The hotel is right by Nishiki Market and surrounded by shops and restaurants, with multiple subway lines nearby. There are also many fantastic local restaurants in the area, which we highly recommend, especially when the market gets overwhelmingly busy.
The hotel provides a wide range of amenities in the lobby, including face wash, toner, lotion, razors, combs and mouthwash. While convenient, the large amount of individually packaged items does not feel particularly environmentally friendly.
We checked out the breakfast one morning but decided not to purchase it as it was 2750 yen per person, and there are plenty of better and more affordable options nearby.
The staff were very friendly and welcoming, and we also appreciated that the hotel offers free umbrella use on rainy days, which was a thoughtful touch.
One downside was the room cleaning timing. We left early in the morning and only returned after 3pm, but the room was still being cleaned when we got back. We were asked to wait around 30 minutes, which was quite inconvenient after a long day when we wanted to rest, shower and freshen up before heading out again.
Overall, a clean and well-located hotel with a few minor design quirks and service timing issues, but still a very pleasant stay.

The hotel's location is excellent, right outside Kyoto Station. There are plenty of shops, restaurants, and entertainment options around Kyoto Station itself. It's also very convenient for getting to Shijo (just take a bus from Kyoto Station's central exit) and to places like Arashiyama and Kifune Shrine. The airport shuttle stop isn't far either. The hotel is a bit older, but it's very clean and quite spacious for a Japanese hotel. It's great value for money for families traveling together. Highly recommend!

Convenient location once you're there - walking distance to Nishiki market and many attraction. However it is about 500m from the train station, so you need to factor this in if bringing big luggages or traveling with anyone who can't walk far.
Room is good sized for Japanese hotel. And the room is very clean, well designed and has everything you need. Free amenities at reception.
Breakfast spread is small but sufficient, the variety remained unchanged in the 4 days we are there.
Free coffee tea at reception.
Super value for money.

For this price point, all I can say is it's an absolute steal! You can really trust big brands. I'm usually someone who goes from basic to luxurious when choosing hotels, and the day before arriving here, I picked a more budget-friendly option. But this 'budget' hotel was so good, I didn't want to leave! It felt small yet cozy. Plus, there's a bath, and coming back from a morning run to soak in the tub was just heavenly.
They even have a bar on the ground floor! Every day before heading out, I'd grab a lollipop or ice cream to kick off my city walk. My family loved it. The location is a bit further out, so walking can be tiring on your feet. After a morning run, we relied on taxis for getting around during the day. I couldn't quite figure out the subway; it seemed like the JR pass wasn't valid.
Next time I visit, I plan to stay for an extended period. There's really no need to spend thousands or tens of thousands to stay at those top-tier hotels. I haven't felt particularly pampered or that it was exceptionally good there. For instance, the Park Hyatt is so expensive, primarily for its location. Everything else was just so-so, and the restaurants were incredibly crowded with a strong greasy smell.

My stay this time was fantastic! From the moment I checked in, the front desk staff were professional and incredibly friendly. The room decor was modern and clean, with absolutely no strange odors, and the mattress provided just the right amount of support, making for a very comfortable sleep.
What surprised me most was the excellent water pressure in the bathroom; the hot water came quickly, which made for a very relaxing shower. The hotel's location is also very convenient, with a convenience store and local eateries just a short walk downstairs.

【Highly Recommended, Will Rebook!】
I rarely write hotel reviews, but this is a gem! Not only is the location fantastic and the price relatively affordable, but the service is a win-win, making it a 'home away from home' where you can not only stay comfortably but also enjoy the services freely.
Service:
[Love] Complimentary Bar Drinks (one per person per day) - See photo.
Upon check-in, we received a small purple pouch filled with tokens. These could be used at the self-service bar on the 2nd floor for various wines, beers, or grape juice.
After a day of exploring, my travel companions and I gathered in the spacious lounge area of the bar. We chatted, sipped drinks, and munched on snacks – it was such a relaxing and sweet end to our day. It's completely self-service, which feels very freeing, with no pressure to spend more. However, if needed, there's also a server available for more extensive food and beverage service. Win-win!
[Love] Free Self-Service Luggage Storage.
We plan to use this on our last day. Just by looking, the space is large, well-organized, and the self-storage system is very clear. It's convenient and comfortable for us, and the hotel doesn't need to specially assign staff. Win-win!
[Love] Three Room Service Options.
By default daily: bottled water replenishment, trash disposal, and towel change.
Whiteboard 'Make Up the Room' sign on the door: full bed making and tidying.
Blackboard 'Do Not Disturb' sign on the door.
Honestly, do you know? Last year, I stayed at a more expensive hotel in Tokyo that didn't even default to trash disposal daily; we had to specifically ask for it. This hotel's approach is much more sensible.
Room Size: The room isn't huge, but the integrated bathroom is quite spacious, which is considered large for Japan. The three-bed layout is well-designed. We could open three suitcases, take out our belongings, store two large cases in the closet, and I even had enough space in the aisle to do yoga every morning.
The location is a game-changer – super convenient! All sorts of attractions, famous shops, restaurants, and supermarkets are within walking distance. It's incredibly sweet!

I chose this hotel because it is close to the city center. After actually checking in, I found that the location is very convenient. It is only a 5-minute walk from Karasuma Shijo in the center of Kyoto.
Moreover, there is a Lawson convenience store next door to the hotel, which is very convenient. There is also a Michelin ramen shop next door to the convenience store. Although the store was not open during renovations during our stay, we were not late. Come back next time if we have a chance.
The room was very clean and the stay was very comfortable. It is also very convenient to use the password to operate the door lock if you don’t have a room card. You don’t have to worry about losing the room card. I lost my room card in other hotels before and I was compensated 5,000 yen😵💫. Because I don’t have a room card, it is very convenient to check out before the check-out time. That's it. Very convenient.
Because the surrounding public transportation is very convenient to go everywhere, I left my luggage at the front desk on the day of check-out and continued sightseeing in Kyoto for a while before leaving.
The only drawback is that the temple opposite will ring the bell every morning, but as long as it’s not like me who likes to sleep until 10 o’clock every day, it shouldn’t affect it😬

The hotel's location is quite convenient for me, as long as there's a subway station nearby. The facilities are decent too, and having a Chinese-speaking front desk staff member was a big plus. I even left something behind when I checked out and they managed to find it for me, though the process was a lot slower than back home, haha. Overall, it's pretty good. The main downside is that it's often fully booked; I was hoping to stay here again next time since I'm familiar with it, but checking the dates, it seems to be booked solid for a while... Guess I'll have to play it by ear. If you're purely looking to shop, it's a bit of a walk, but too close to bother taking a car.

Despite sharing the space, it’s very quiet and guests are considerate, so there’s no disturbance while sleeping. Overall, it was a very pleasant experience.

”I highly recommend Mitsui Garden in Kyoto! The location is superb, with a bus stop and convenience store right outside. The room is quite large for Kyoto, big enough to fit two suitcases. My favorite part of the day was soaking in the public bath – it instantly relieved all the fatigue from a long day of walking. The hotel also offers luggage delivery service; it only costs 500 yen to deliver to Kyoto Station, super convenient. I'll definitely stay here again next time!”

RReneehuangHighly Recommended Stay in Kyoto
I would like to strongly recommend this hotel for anyone visiting Kyoto. The staff demonstrate exceptional professionalism and hospitality.
In particular, I would like to express my sincere appreciation to Miss Yuki, who assisted us with our check-in and kindly introduced many wonderful sightseeing spots and activities in Kyoto, as well as to Miss Tsai, a ********* staff member who supported us during check-out with great warmth and care. Their thoughtful service truly reflects the welcoming spirit of Kyoto and the hotel’s commitment to excellence.
I am genuinely impressed by the quality of the team members who bring guests happiness and satisfaction through their dedication. They truly deserve recognition and applause for their outstanding service.
Our two-night stay was far too short, and we are already looking forward to returning in the near future.
JJinboluogogogoThe hotel's location and environment are decent. However, the service and in-room amenities don't quite match the price. For this price, there are better options in Kyoto.
GGuest UserThis hotel offers great value for money and is often fully booked. The location is incredibly convenient, the management and service are excellent, and the rooms are clean and hygienic. They even offer free luggage storage. Besides the standard services, the front desk also provides high-quality facial care products for women, including face masks. I'll definitely stay here again next time.
LLeontevThis is a great hotel, my second time staying here. The rooms are very cozy and clean, and the staff is very helpful. Our flight was delayed, and they checked us in after check-in time. There's an onsen, and even though the water isn't mineral, it's still super after a long flight. Try the ice cream from the ice cream machine when you leave the onsen feeling hot. There's a cafe on the ground floor with breakfast: I recommend the Japanese-style one, but they also have a regular European option, and the coffee is good. There's a nice izakaya nearby with tempura, Tempura & Wine Kojima (天ぷらとワイン小島 京都店). There's also another cool cafe nearby, SAKESORA (京の).
OOrilla128The service was excellent, and the front desk even helped us call a taxi. The breakfast was fantastic, with a great variety and delicious food – amazing value for money! Our whole family absolutely loved it!!! Highly recommend!! The location is also very convenient, close to the subway station!
GGuest UserAlthough it was short, I loved my stay here. Had great quality of sleep. Good base for Kyoto, near enough to key locations, but expect a lot of walking unless you use the bus. Nearest station is Kyoto Kawaramachi which is great for day drips just outside central Kyoto and if you are coming from Osaka or Kansai airport - see my tips below.
Pros: great bathroom and toiletries, good water pressure and temperature, smart toilet, TV with streaming services, fridge, desk/stool, coat hooks (handy for winter time), semi-full length mirror, luggage rack, various lights to adjust to your preference, very clean, super comfortable firm mattress and pillows, good soundproofing for light sleepers, great air conditioning (room warms up pretty quickly in the winter), you can also open the windows which is nice, felt very safe as a solo female, can ask for more water bottles in reception, lift was never crowded, outlets next to bed, has luggage storage if you need, near the river and traditional streets for scenic strolls, close to bus stop, family mart otw from station for late night snacks.
Cons: can hear police cars or cars with loud engines at night sometimes but not frequent, walking from the station with a suitcase was a bit longer than expected, my double room was a bit cramped for opening suitcase (could not open the front or bathroom doors fully to avoid hitting my suitcase) and I am one person (two suitcases would fit but you wouldn't be able to walk around the bed properly).
Tips: If you are coming from Kansai airport (KIX), I recommend you take the airport limousine to Namba (bought a return ticket since it is cheaper). It drops you outside JR Namba station, you can go inside to get to the metro station, follow signs for the red Midosuji Line. Board the train to Umeda. Stay inside the station and follow signs for Osaka-Umeda or the brown Hankyu-Kyoto line. This line goes directly to Kyoto Kawaramachi station. When stations, always look for the lift signs if you have luggages. I think I took the lift closest to Exit 4, and it brings you up to a department store. You kinda have to walk through and get out. If you walk out the front entrance, there are a few steps, but if you go to the side doors, it has a slope to avoid carrying suitcases. It's a straight walk from the station. Unless you are doing day trips, Kyoto city buses are a lot better mode of transport in my opinion.
GGuest UserFacilities: My only complaint is that the king-size bed in the king room is made of two single mattresses pushed together, and after sleeping on it for a while, a gap forms between them.
Hygiene: The hygiene is excellent.
Environment: The surrounding area is very quiet, and there are convenience stores not too far away.
Service: The service attitude is great, and the hotel even offers free shuttle service to Kyoto Station.
GGuest UserFound some hair under the bed that wasn't vacuumed before checking in, didn't fully take all our rubbish.
Decent place to stay at location wise but very small space for a family (especially in the ”king deluxe room”).
Only had 2 towels too despite there being 4 of us.
DDr.p3pp3rI stayed here in a double room and overall had a pretty good experience. The room was clean and comfortable, and both the air conditioning and heater worked very well. One thing that really stood out was the bathroom — the bathtub was much larger than what you usually get in Japan. I’m a tall person, and I could actually sit down and lie back comfortably, which is rare. Most hotel baths feel very small, but this one felt closer to around 1.4m in length, which made having a bath genuinely enjoyable.
The bed was comfortable, and housekeeping did a great job — the bed was made every day with fresh sheets. Wi-Fi was also very fast, which was a big plus. Amenities were decent, and you can pick up extra items if you need them.
Check-in is a bit late at 3pm, which I didn’t love, but that’s balanced out by an 11am checkout. Having that extra time in the morning made it feel worth it overall.
I did have a couple of negatives. The strangest one was finding an old sock behind the TV when I arrived. It was very obvious and not hidden, so I’m not sure how it was missed during cleaning. It was a bit gross, but I just left it.
Another downside was the mini fridge — it’s more like a cooler than a real fridge. It keeps drinks from getting warm, but they don’t get properly cold. In summer, this really wouldn’t be good enough. Replacing it with a proper mini fridge would be a big upgrade.
The other major issue was the lift. It is painfully slow, and there’s only one lift for the upper floors. On checkout day, I left my room about 10 minutes before checkout time, and I almost didn’t make it downstairs in time because of how slow it was. That part was honestly pretty ridiculous.
Location-wise, this hotel is excellent. It’s very easy to get to from Kyoto Station — just head south and you’re there in about 4–5 minutes. It’s also very convenient when leaving Kyoto by train.
A tip for using the subway: instead of going back to Kyoto Station, walk right from the hotel to Shijō Station. It’s on the same subway line, you’ll get on before Kyoto Station, and the train is empty — so you’re almost guaranteed a seat and can ride comfortably to your destinations.
For food and shopping, there’s a shopping mall just across the road toward the station with a Don Quijote, McDonald’s, and other options. The hotel is also right next to a Coco Ichibanya curry house, which is fantastic and open late.
Overall, despite a few odd issues, this was a solid stay with a great location, good comfort, and very easy access to transport. I’d happily consider staying here again.
GGuest UserLocation not the best and can find nearer to Kyoto station with same price. The location only good to go Nijojo castle, Toji Temple & Ginkako temple. Nothing much nearby, no night bars only a restaurant opposite it.
The worst was no lift, for a female with 20 kg luggage, I have to carry it for 4 levels up and down all by myself. It’s understandable no space to install lift, but pls consider to install a luggage travel lift.
Layout of the room is very good especially bath and toilet inside the room. Some may not like it cause ppl may back late night to bath and make noises. But I do like the single room layout with small dress up table before the capsule bed.
