"For our trip to Noboribetsu Onsen, we chose to stay in the South Wing Family Room at Dai-ichi Takimotokan. The room was quite spacious by Japanese hotel standards, and the 'one night, two meals' experience was fantastic! During check-in, they asked for our preferred dinner time – the first seating at 5:30 PM and the second at 7:00 PM. The front desk provided dinner vouchers, which you just take to the third floor of the main building for your meal. The buffet dinner quality was pretty good; crab legs were unlimited, the salmon was nice, and there was a good selection of desserts and ice cream. The hotel's location is also excellent, with Noboribetsu Jigokudani (Hell Valley) and the Bear Park within walking distance. After checking in, we took a stroll around Hell Valley, and in the evening, we enjoyed the hotel's hot spring. The onsen has both indoor and outdoor baths and is quite large. The hot spring water had a strong sulfur smell, and our skin felt wonderfully smooth afterward. The only downside to the hotel is the early check-out time at 10 AM. Breakfast also runs until 10 AM, with the last entry at 9:30 AM, so checking out at 10 AM felt a bit rushed. Overall, though, this hotel is really great!"

"The traditional tatami room truly impressed us, but the highlight of our stay was the open-air private sulphur onsen in our room. It was incredibly therapeutic, and I absolutely loved the natural sulphur scent that filled the space—it made the experience feel authentic and deeply relaxing. A heartfelt shoutout to the staff for their exceptional hospitality. From the warm welcome upon arrival to assisting with our luggage and thoughtfully preparing our beds, every detail was handled with care. They were genuinely kind and attentive throughout our stay. Although the hotel is quite old, we appreciated it as part of its vintage charm. It feels like a place rich with history and stories, which adds a unique character you don’t often find in modern hotels. The 7-course kaiseki dinner completely blew us away. From the exquisite plating to the impeccable service, every dish reflected the chef’s dedication and craftsmanship. Even breakfast exceeded our expectations. While described as a buffet, the beautifully presented bento-style offerings along with the comforting soup-based dishes were both satisfying and delicious. Yes, the price is on the higher side, but it is absolutely worth every penny we spent."

"Excellent hotel. ◎ The location is super convenient, just a 2-minute walk from the Noboribetsu Onsen bus stop. ◎ The room was very spacious and well-designed, with a separate toilet, shower, and sink area, and plenty of storage space. ◎ The hotel itself has a bit of an older feel, but it's still very clean. ◎ The public bath (onsen) was incredibly relaxing, especially the outdoor sulfur spring bath. ◎ What's truly rare for the Noboribetsu Onsen area is that we didn't see any tour groups here, making it very quiet and perfect for those looking to relax and unwind."

"When planning my first trip to Sapporo, I really wanted to include a hot spring experience. Naturally, Noboribetsu came to mind for hot springs, and that's how I found Hanaya while looking for a ryokan in the area. I'd seen reviews mentioning its location at the entrance of Noboribetsu made it a bit far, which wasn't an issue for us since we had a rental car. However, upon arrival, I realized it's not that far at all, and it's perfectly walkable unless it's extremely cold and snowy. The hot springs are separated for men and women, and the bath locations switch daily. Each gender's bath area has one indoor and one outdoor bath. Since the ryokan itself is small, if you time it right, you can often have the place to yourself. Maybe you'll encounter just one or two other guests? It's a genuine sulfur hot spring; remember to shower briefly before entering and keep towels and hair out of the water. You can't talk about a ryokan without mentioning kaiseki! We booked a stay for four people including dinner and breakfast, and dinner was kaiseki. It was served course by course, looked absolutely beautiful, and I found it incredibly delicious. For the price point, I was thoroughly satisfied. In the lobby, there are complimentary drinks available, including sake and beer, which you can enjoy as much as you like. Even though it's a small ryokan, they upgraded our room, and the staff were legendary for their kindness. It was a truly satisfying ryokan experience. I hope to visit again if I get the chance."
