"The views and facilities here are excellent. It definitely lives up to its reputation as one of Sumatra's top luxury hotels. It has its own private jetty, so you can travel directly to the hotel by boat from Samosir (make sure to use the Tiga Raja jetty; A****ta goes to a different location). The hotel is spotlessly clean, meeting Japanese standards of hygiene, and the staff's English proficiency and the hotel's cleanliness are arguably the best in Tuktuk. For a 5-star hotel, it's quite affordable from a Japanese perspective. However, after staying here, I'm left wondering if paying this price for a hotel in Tuktuk was really worth it. It's quite far from the central area of Tuktuk where most other hotels are located, which was a significant disappointment (it's about a 20-minute walk, and ride-sharing apps like Grab don't work here). Also, the hotel's optional services, such as the rooftop bar and transfers, are expensive for Indonesia (though perhaps this is expected for a luxury hotel). I came here to enjoy Lake Toba and Tuktuk, but aside from the views, I'm not sure I fully enjoyed the experience. Most other hotels in Tuktuk also have their own private jetties, and I wouldn't really recommend this place to those looking to experience and enjoy Indonesia. I probably won't stay here again."

"Highly recommend staying here! Dimmer (host and owner) is very friendly and helpful! He helped us organise parasailing and jet skiing, gave us advice on what to see/do and food options nearby. Room was big, spacious and clean with nice views of the lake. The area is quiet and very safe. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and highly recommend it to others!"

"Room is very minimalist/very basic, not very clean, we had to clean table and toilet seat by ourself, but view from balcony was great. You have free drink water at the reception. We had a big dissapointig moment with the manager regarding scooter rental of the hotel. They were very old and we had a break down with the scooter. It was in the evening far away from hotel. We called the Manager he just said we need call a mechanic and hung up the phone, as we dont speak indonesian it was horrible but many locals helped us. Later the manager didnt want to come to an accommodation. We payed repair of his scooter. They just take money but no service when you in trouble, we DONT recommend the scooter rental service of that guesthouse!"

"I had a wonderful stay at Matraville; Dim was super helpful and friendly, picking me up and dropping me off for my ferries to and from the island, and arranging a private tour of the island for me at short notice, along with advising me with travel options back to Medan airport and then booking my chosen one. It's clear he really cares about his guests having a good stay! The homestay itself is also lovely, with an excellent view from the balcony, and ambient lighting for the winding down to sleep. It's also only a short walk to very good bars and restaurants (5-15mins depending on your selection), with a good place for breakfast just next door. Would definitely recommend and return!"

"This was a lovely place for my short family holiday with a very Indonesian feel. I rate this a 3/5 to 4 star accommodation. I wish we could have stayed longer. It is best if you are a Bahasa Indonesia or Melayu speaker, because staff speak very little English. But we could get by with our broken limited Bahasa. It was a very quiet place, hardly any guests - I think because we travelled in the wet season. But our trip had many dry clear and beautiful days! The hotel staff were very kind to arrange and find driver for us prior to us arriving (arranged thru Whatsapp), so we could travel to and from Medan including across on the ferry to Samosir. Booked through Agoda. Our family suite on ground floor looked out to an unkempt garden and there was some ingrained mould or water damage in the wall of the lounge room. But otherwise very clean, friendly and helpful staff, and no dramas."
