My friends and I, each with our little ones, decided to travel to Shanghai. We booked this guesthouse as a last-minute alternative after cancelling our original hotel (because the beds were too small). We initially chose it simply because it was close by and we didn't want the hassle of moving again. After checking in, we discovered it truly embodied the essence of Shanghai. The house is located in a small, old-style apartment building in a lane, resembling an architectural masterpiece from the last century. Inside, the two bedrooms are spacious, there's an open kitchen, and the entire house has old wooden floors. The Ming and Qing dynasty furniture adds a touch of antique charm. It's also very convenient, with the subway station right across from the complex. Huaihai Road is just a short walk away, and there's also the architecturally distinctive Guotai Cinema – fantastic! The manager even extended our check-out time by two hours, and her prompt and thoughtful response was very considerate. A truly hidden gem of a guesthouse! [Thumbs up]

The hotel was really clean, and the service was excellent. They even gave us a free upgrade, so we ended up staying for several days straight. It was fantastic! The main thing is the great value for money. We'll definitely be back.

Guest UserThis guesthouse was very clean, and perfect for a quick nap at lunchtime since my child's high school entrance exam was nearby. It's located in the charming Wutong District, a quiet haven amidst the bustling 'Jufuchang' area, ideal for a deep dive into old Shanghai. It even has a small courtyard. The owner was also very nice. If the university entrance exam is still held at Huamo, we'll definitely choose this place again.

Guest UserGetting around is super convenient; the subway station is just a two-minute walk across the road. The dorms are separated by gender, and the communal bathrooms are constantly being cleaned by an auntie. The showers even have a small dry area, which is really handy for putting your clothes. The room isn't huge but it's perfectly adequate. The soundproofing isn't the best, so if you're a light sleeper, you might want to bring earplugs, especially if your room is in the middle of the corridor. They even gave out cute little zongzi (rice dumpling) keychains for the Dragon Boat Festival! I'd definitely stay here again!

FenghuangmuyixiuI finally found Xiangyang Hotel in Shanghai, which offers great value for money. Staying here feels like being at home. Room 302 faces the villa area, and the morning sun shines right into the room, making it very cozy. It's a twin room with good space, and the wet and dry areas are separated, making it clean and hygienic. The service is excellent; both the front desk and floor staff are always smiling and welcoming. A special shout-out to the doorman who enthusiastically helped carry my luggage! The hotel is an old Shanghai red-brick building with a charming interior. Located on Xiangyang North Road, it's very close to Julu Road and Changle Road, perfect for a city walk. It's also near Huaihai Middle Road – close to the bustle, yet wonderfully quiet.

Guest UserThis accommodation is in a very nice area. There are many cafés and vintage stores within walking distance, and it’s well connected to public transportation. I was able to reach two different metro stations in less than 10 minutes on foot.
I asked the owner for an early check-in, and he gave me a room that was already ready. Upon arrival, a lady at the hostel welcomes you, and you need to add the owner on WeChat to complete the check-in process.
My room had a small private balcony and was very spacious and clean. The neighborhood is quiet at night, and all the windows have blackout curtains. I would recommend staying here.

Guest UserCame to Shanghai with the kids and their friends, and this hotel completely exceeded our expectations! It's perfect for multi-family stays, with a kitchen and two bathrooms, so no long queues for everyone to get ready. There are also plenty of restaurants nearby, and it's about 1 km from the subway, which makes getting around pretty convenient.
The room was spotlessly clean, with a separate wet and dry area in the bathroom. The hot water and air conditioning were excellent, and the beds were large and soft. After a full day of playing, the kids could relax and watch TV before bed.
Our entire stay was hassle-free; it made traveling with young children easy and stress-free. I've already saved this place and will definitely choose it again next time we're in Shanghai! It's ideal for families traveling together.

Nice place to stay but there are a few things to be aware of. Like all places in China there is a registration system. We sent our passports to Andy who was able to do it for us. The neighbourhood feels very safe and has security at the front. All former mansions are subdivided into rooms which are then occupied by many people. As a result, you will share a front door and some of the corridor. Because of this, the rooms are rather close together which meant in the morning you would often hear people cooking, talking etc. and in evening you might hear a bit of snoring. All together it wasn’t bad and it felt more local.
The room itself was pretty well equipped and had two large areas for the upstairs and downstairs. We enjoyed the projector and kitchen. The bathroom’s water pressure/shower head was a little weak and often got a little flooded as we were given disposable linen. The disposable bedsheets were fine but the towels were not really absorbent. The location was probably the nicest aspect. It was nice and uniquely shanghai unlike staying in the newer parts of town.
