Impression Tengger Desert Camp ★★★

📍 Reception Office, No. 02, Building 3, South Area, Tourism New Town, Shapotou District, Zhongwei

"The room was clean and well-maintained. The staff were attentive, especially with our kids. We experienced the desert, enjoyed a bonfire party, fireworks, and even a molten iron flower show at night. There were also plenty of desert activities to try. It's a shame the weather wasn't great, so we didn't get to see the stars."

"The campsite staff, led by Captain Li, provided excellent service. They turned on the air conditioning in the room in advance and promptly met all our needs. A big thumbs up! The kids had a fantastic time; it was a perfect trip."

Zhongwei Shapo Tou Desert Wilderness Desert Stargazing Inn

Zhongwei Shapo Tou Desert Wilderness Desert Stargazing Inn ★★★

📍 No. 101, Yingshui Village, Yingshui Town, Shapotou District, Zhongwei

"My kid said this was their favorite hotel on our trip to the Northwest!~ The hotel is located within the East Lake Grassland Scenic Area of the Tengger Desert, which is originally a place for sand activities (ask the owner for a discounted package deal). My kid loved the Interstellar Chariot (actually, the off-road vehicles we took to and from the hotel to other camps were also a blast!~). The owner provides free pick-up and drop-off to the activity areas. Facilities: The hotel has everything you need. The public restrooms and shower rooms are next to the restaurant, very clean, and there are plenty of them. Thanks to the owner for upgrading us to a room with a private bathroom – it was so convenient to wash off our sandy kids every night after playing! If your budget allows, I highly recommend booking a room with a private bathroom!!! It's super important!! The air conditioning in the room was incredibly strong, we had to turn it off at night otherwise it got too cold~ The amenities included disposable towels and bath towels, and the slippers were also very thick and clean! Cleanliness: Exceeded expectations, there was surprisingly no sand on the bed! Environment: Surrounded by dunes on all sides. If you climb to the top of a dune a bit later in the evening and find a dark spot, you can see a sky full of stars~ Service: If you're traveling with kids, you absolutely must participate in the hotel's educational programs! At 8:30 AM, there's a desert hike where the guide even caught a lizard. At 10:30 AM, there's a wheat straw grid activity where they explain the principles and methods of sand control, and the kids get to experience making the grids themselves. It was too hot in the afternoon, so we didn't join the treasure hunt. The host for the evening bonfire party was great at getting everyone energized, and we could see fireworks from four or five other camps – they were big fireworks! The stargazing guide at 9:30 PM was very humorous. He first introduced basic geographical knowledge about the moon's shape, distance, etc., then explained the stars and constellations related to the Big Dipper. The Milky Way wasn't visible until 2 AM that night, but the moon came out after 1 AM, so we missed it. There are sandboards everywhere in the camp; it's better to find steeper slopes for a good slide. The manager is the owner himself; he patiently answers all questions and can even help receive express deliveries~ We'll definitely come again!!!~"

Desert Wild Star Lakeview Retreat

Desert Wild Star Lakeview Retreat ★★★

📍 No. 106, Building 3, Zhongwei Country Garden, Jichang Avenue, Shapotou District, Zhongwei

"The mattress was even better than those in regular hotels! The owner was incredibly helpful, and the surroundings were beautiful. The bonfire party in the evening had a fantastic atmosphere. In the mornings, there were study tours and hiking activities, including a desert water retrieval experience. They even had a professional instructor guiding stargazing lectures at night. The sunsets were stunning, and there were so many stars visible at night."

📍 Room 1N12, Building 2, Ruifeng Community, No. 113 Yingli South Street, Shapotou District, Zhongwei

"The butler service was excellent; they responded promptly to all our requests. The restaurant food was also delicious. The staff even gave us a lot of watermelon and cantaloupe. Everyone working there was quick to help us with any issues we had. It was a very pleasant stay. If I have the chance, I'll definitely stay here again."

Sand Star Tengger Desert Stargazing Hotel

Sand Star Tengger Desert Stargazing Hotel ★★★

📍 200 meters northwest of Yudao Art Tourism Town, Yingshuiqiao Town, Shapotou District, Zhongwei

"The hotel's cleanliness, environment, service, and facilities are all excellent. The front desk staff are lovely and kind, and the manager is warm and sincere. Our room opened right onto the sand, so we could watch our kids play outside from inside the room. I especially recommend this place for families traveling with children."

📍 Building 10, New Garden, Yingli South Street, Shapotou District, Zhongwei

"I initially thought that accommodation in the desert would inevitably mean dealing with sand, but I was completely surprised! The room was incredibly tidy, the bedding was crisp and dry, and the bathroom was spotless with a great separation of wet and dry areas, and absolutely no unpleasant odors. The owner is incredibly enthusiastic; from the moment I booked, he patiently answered all my questions. When I arrived, he proactively helped me with my luggage, and patiently explained all the desert activities and nearby attractions. He was always quick to respond whenever I contacted him and was able to arrange everything perfectly. The desert scenery is beautiful, and my stay was comfortable and worry-free. I genuinely recommend it; the owner, KK, is a young guy who made communication seamless. He's very warm and friendly, full marks for recommendation!"

"Traveling in May was off-season, so there weren't many guests, which made for a great experience. The owner was very welcoming and the pick-up/drop-off service was prompt. The hotel's location is also excellent, offering fantastic views for stargazing at night and watching the sunrise."

"The room was clean and the owner provided excellent service. I went there to run a marathon, and due to time constraints, I couldn't pick up my race packet. I asked the owner to do it for me, and they handled everything perfectly, I didn't have to worry about a thing. Next time I travel, I won't stay anywhere else!"

Desert Wild Star Lakeview Retreat ★★★
"The capsule is very new, it feels like a new building, and the bath water is also very large. There was a very lively bonfire party in the evening. The sand digging tools and sandboard were taken casually. How did the breakfast end at 9 o'clock? There was no housekeeper to inform. When we went, there was nothing and no supplement. The porridge was rice soup water. I didn't eat enough. The milk was made of milk powder. If the evening activities are late, I suggest that the breakfast time should be extended appropriately."

"Overall, it was decent, I guess, considering it's in the desert and conditions are limited, so you can't expect too much. Stepping out, you're literally in the sand, and any small dune is perfect for sandboarding. The restaurant offered good meals for all three sittings, with options for à la carte or hot pot buffet. While the choices weren't extensive, it was fine for a two-day stay; I felt like I'd get tired of the food if I stayed longer. Also, paid desert activities like dune buggy rides and camel riding were more expensive here than at the nearby Tonghu Grassland scenic area. If you plan on doing paid activities, I'd suggest doing them at the scenic area first, then staying in the desert to enjoy free activities like sandboarding, hiking, and stargazing. I highly recommend stargazing; it's beautiful even with the naked eye. Finally, I booked this hotel mainly for the pool and professional astronomical telescope. The desert gets too hot in the afternoon, so besides swimming, you're pretty much stuck in your room with the AC on. There weren't many activities available here, and they said all the activity materials were out of stock. Well... on our first day, the water was too dirty to swim in. They did change the water on the second day, but it took all day, and by evening, the water still hadn't reached knee-level. Our child went in to splash around for a bit and said it was cold. When I touched it, I realized the water was ice-cold, like mountain spring water. We quickly took him back for a hot shower, fearing he'd catch a cold. Then, during stargazing that night, we found out the astronomical telescope was also broken, so we could only stargaze with our naked eyes... I'd just say it was a less-than-perfect desert trip."

Zhongwei Tengoll · KK Qiongjing · Tengger Desert Luxury Stargazing Homestay Collection ★★★
"This hotel isn't located with the cluster of hotels near Shapotou; instead, it's nestled deeper within the Tengger Desert, in a more pristine and untouched area. As far as the eye can see, there are no other hotel complexes around, just vast stretches of authentic desert. The owner kindly upgraded us to a family suite, which was spotless and well-equipped – no complaints there. We enjoyed stargazing at night and slept incredibly soundly. It was nearly perfect, but I'd suggest the hotel pay more attention to the kitchen: the stir-fried dishes at dinner were a bit too salty, and the milk at breakfast was quite diluted. Overall, a great experience and highly recommended!"

Shazhihai Desert Star Camp ★★★
"Although the desert cabins are not large, they are well-equipped and spotlessly clean, and the owner provides attentive and thoughtful service. We stayed for two nights, and the owner was exceptionally warm and welcoming, even offering free pick-up and drop-off from the station. The camp activities were also fantastic: bonfires, romantic fireworks, stargazing education, and desert trekking were all included. We had two amazing days playing in the desert, and the experience was absolutely perfect!"
