4-Star Hotels in Saga Prefecture, Japan

Saga doesn't have a vast selection of hotels. Traveling with my parents, I picked this one for its Japanese-style room, hoping they could experience sleeping on a tatami mat. When we arrived, it wasn't yet check-in time. However, the hotel kindly allowed us to complete the check-in formalities and store our luggage. We then headed straight out to explore the nearby Prefectural Office and grab some lunch. Upon our return in the afternoon, we simply collected our room key and went directly upstairs. Our luggage had already been conveniently placed in our room. The room wasn't particularly large; it felt a bit cramped for three people. We coordinated with the front desk before heading out for the evening, and they came in to lay out the futons while we were gone. Breakfast is served on the first floor. Looking at the price displayed at the entrance, I'd say it wouldn't offer great value for money if purchased separately. Additionally, as Saga isn't a very bustling city, if you're particular about dining options, staying closer to the station might be more convenient.

Nicely designed hotel. But rooms are small and tight. Not easy to walk around. Location a little off the center of Saga City but lots of car parking available. Service was good and helpful. And you can even buy a fireworks and play!

This was a truly beautiful and wonderful hotel. The moment I entered the lobby, I was immediately struck by the breathtaking view. The harmony between the ocean view and the pristine white hotel was truly impressive. Every single item was precious and luxurious. There was an indoor heated pool for the kids, and an outdoor hot spring pool for the adults. Surrounded by distant mountains, the swimming pool and the ocean seemed to be connected... It was fantastic. The food was top-notch, and everything was top-notch. I highly recommend it.

The food is good quality, the staff are polite and welcoming. But the hot spring facilities are average. The public pool allows diners to eat ice cream and popsicles, which seems to be very different from the traditional etiquette of Japanese hot springs. But the indoor onsen is nice.

My stay at Ureshino Onsen Yoshidaya Uchiroji Hondori (also known as Yadoya Uchiroji Hondori) was a tale of two extremes in the charming hot spring town of Ureshino, Saga Prefecture. The hotel was modern Japanese-style with smart check-in system. The twin room was spacious, impeccably clean, and exude serene comfort, making it a perfect retreat. The private onsen facilities truly shine— It was a free slot with 40 mins, which could be booked once via QR Code at the room. Ureshino's famous sodium-rich hot springs, renowned as one of Japan's top three for beautifying the skin, deliver silky-smooth water that leaves you feeling rejuvenated. However, the meal plan was a major letdown. I sent an email to the hotel to confirm my booking and stated I did not eat beef before. The customer service replied I had to pay extra per person in order to change the meat option. For over JPY 38,000 per night including breakfast and dinner, we anticipated premium kaiseki cuisine or traditional served Japanese dinner set. Instead, only a bento box with cold salad and an underwhelming beef and egg pie that felt mismatched for the price. Tragically, my husband experienced vomiting shortly after, likely food-related, which overshadowed our trip. And the breakfast was also disappointing, which was only cold sandwiches with a cup of tea or milk. Thus, I strongly recommend the hotel clearly states the exact contents of dinner and breakfast plans on booking sites—including detailed menus or photos—and offers flexible options, such as plan changes or alternatives, if guests fall ill from the food. This transparency and adaptability would greatly enhance the experience and prevent frustration.

I'm very satisfied with the hotel. The breakfast and dinner were excellent, and the public bath was also great. For the private onsen, I recommend the Keifutang (seasonal wind bath), especially for families with two or more people. The Sakuramiyu private onsen seems to be more for single use, and if you're staying in a villa, you probably don't need to bother with it. Overall, both the regular rooms and villas have the beds located on the second floor, so you'll need to use stairs to access them. In the villas, the bathroom is only on the first floor, which might be a bit inconvenient.

The hotel offers a complimentary shuttle service to Saga JR Station, which you can arrange by contacting them directly. The rooms are significantly larger than typical hotel rooms and offer beautiful views. The hot spring baths, both indoor and outdoor, are comfortably warm, allowing for long, relaxing soaks in a clean and pleasant environment. The only downside was that the dinner provided wasn't quite to my Chinese palate.

Overall, I had a very pleasant experience at this hotel. It is a large hotel and the price was reasonable for the quality of the stay. The highlight for me was the cleanliness. The hotel also boasts a fantastic amenity: a rooftop onsen (hot spring). It was incredibly relaxing and offered a great way to unwind after a long day of travel. The main downside, however, was the dining options. While convenient, both the breakfast and dinner buffets were quite expensive. There are probably more affordable local options nearby if you are looking to save on meals.

We had a 4 night stay at Mercure Saga and had a wonderful time! The lobby is very spacious and beautifully presented. In the afternoon, they provided afternoon tea with snacks and complimentary drinks, which was a lovely touch. We stayed in an ocean-view room with futon beds. It was very spacious and comfortable for our family of three. The breakfast buffet was definitely a highlight, there was such a wide variety of food to choose from! The staff were incredibly friendly, polite, and welcoming throughout our stay. Special thanks as well to the Kudon services for their great hospitality. Thank you again for such a pleasant stay. We were very impressed and will definitely come back again!
