The rooms are quite nice and comfortable. Very spacious and my kids are loving it. It's just that the menus for breakfast were unexplainable.. the prices don't fit the menus. Just a simple dish for RM50.00 it's not acceptable. Please reconsider to upgrade the breakfast menus. Thanks
Promenade Hotel Kota Kinabalu

Kota Kinabalu City Center
Promenade Hotel is among the classic good (4*-5*) hotels in Kota Kinabalu. Classic also means it shows the signs of ageing, probably they will need to refurbish the rooms sooner or later. Others then that the check in was very efficient, they have like 4-5 counters, and nice staff with good English and some with Chinese speaking abilities. The breakfast was fine, selection decent. During our two night stay most of the guests were from South Korea. It's recommended to have your own car or use Grab, because it's a bit far from main tourist hubs. Just halfway between Gaya street and Imago. Afternoons, Evenings KK traffic can be very terrible, from Gaya st to Promenade hotel - normally 5-10 mins short drive took almost one hour, but that's not the hotels fault, but location can be a problem during busy hours.

SKY Water Villas

Overall I enjoyed our stay in sky water villa. When I was booking I read the reviews also worried that they are a bit old, so that the houses might not be well maintained. But during my stay I feel like the houses are used but still in okay manner. The best thing for this hotel is that I think they have the best house reef, and you can see turtles at night from your balcany. I went snorkling a few times during my stay I saw quite a few clown fish aka nemo and many fishes and even a sea eel one day. They also provide “galss” kayak which you can watch sunset on it. And the best thing they offer is that the tours you book with the villa starts around 10 am, you can just get ready and wait in your room, and when the boat is here the staff will get you from your room, and you’ll finish the tour around 3-4 pm which is the afternoon tea time at the villa. Instead of in the town area you need wake up early and meet and wait at the jetty around 8:15 am . And power supply is stable just may be ocassion blackout but it would turn back on very soon. However I do think they need to clean their air con as the one in our room seems very dusty, we had to clean the filter ourselves, they were very dusty. And during the afternoon coz our villa faces the sunset direction the air con feels a bit not strong enough. And the aircon outer unit is installed right at the room’s wall so it’s a little bit noisy, I’d suggest why not just use a more powerful window unit instead. The food is so so, but it’s difficult to cater everyone’s preference for food. The hotel is not cheap and maybe not very cost effective compare to hotels in other places, but to be fair i think if you want to go to semporna, this might be a reasonable option as overall semporna and malaysia is very expensive for tourists. And i higly recommend to stay at least 2-3 nights instead of 1 night to fully enjoy and relax yourself.

Mercure Kota Kinabalu City Centre

Kota Kinabalu City Center
The hotel is so near to the jetty for islands hopping, like 5 minutes walk. There is a 7/11 downstairs and a duty free shop, a shopping mall, upsidedown museum and many restaurants within 5minutes walking distance. There are 6 of us for this trip, therefore we booked 3 bedrooms family suite, which is so big, 3 bedrooms with 1 big living room, balcony, kitchen (microwave, utensils, plates and bowls, fridge, small pot, induction cooker, range hood), and amazingly 3 bathrooms, I think is pretty ideal for family.
The Luma Hotel, a Member of Design Hotels

Good design internal and everything was pretty new. The staff there were kind and friendly. We were upgraded to another better room type due to the hygiene issue from the room assigned to us. There were breadcrumbs and hair from the previous guest when we entered. The new room we swapped to was much nicer however the basket close to sink was still moulded so we had to ask for a replacement. The hotel itself is located in a complex building that is used for other commercial and residential purposes as well. (Check google street view) It is a bit far from the city center except for the Imago mall - though you still have to cross the road. It is close to the main road and the outside feels a bit chaotic. The noise didn’t bother us that much however your room view on the grand road is not guaranteed - your view might be the apartments next to you. If I were able to choose again, I might go with other city hotels than this one. I wouldn’t rate it a bad hotel but for me it is a disappointment because there are better choices.
Grandis Hotel Kota Kinabalu

Hotel grandis is the best hotel I have ever stayed in kota Kinabalu this is my second time stay at the hotel. Before I have stayed in Hilton, Mercure, Hyatt but still I feel grandis is more comfortable because of its location, easy access to mall, big rooms, comparing other hotel like Hilton, Mercure the rooms are very small no bath tub or sea view. We book a deluxe room in grandis we had a sea view, the rooms are spacious, bed is very comfortable my kid enjoyed the bath tub, perfectly organised room, swimming pool and gym also available at the roof top. Good thing is that they have paid parking, buffet breakfast was pretty decent, easy access to Suria Sabah mall.
Eagle Bay Retreat (Sea View)
8.6/53 Reviews
We had a perfect time at Eaglebay Retreat. It’s truly an undisturbed paradise. You have an entire house and hundreds of meters of coastline all to yourself. Every morning, you can wake up in the sunshine and decide whether to go snorkeling or just relax in the sun—you have the choice. The sunsets were always perfect, and experiencing them on a paddleboard is far better than being in a crowded place like KK. At the same time, the retreat offers a wide range of activities that are both rich and reasonably priced—paddleboarding, jet skiing, kayaking, and more, so you’ll never feel bored. During our stay, Arlyn and h is family provided us with everything we needed: they inflated our paddleboards, helped us arrange sea activities, climbed trees to pick coconuts for us, and prepared delicious meals. Whenever we needed them, they were always available, without intruding on our privacy. Their presence was always perfectly balanced. I would also like to thank Faizal, who did a lot of work before our arrival, and Jamri, the kind lady who helped us recover our lost Apple Pencil during our stay. She assisted in finding it, came up with several ways to return it (considering Eaglebay Retreat’s remote location), and finally delivered it to my friend personally, asking for nothing in return. Your kindness will be remembered. Yes, I think we would definitely recommend this place to our friends, and we will visit Eaglebay again in the future.
