"There was a cockroach in the room! Our stay started off fairly well, but everything changed that evening when I spotted a small cockroach crawling across the desk. I immediately trapped it with my son’s face mask and crushed it with all my strength. After that, I couldn’t stop worrying that there might be more hiding somewhere in the room, so we closed up all of our suitcases to avoid any unwanted surprises. When I checked out the next morning, I showed the photo to the receptionist. She simply went, “Oh…” in surprise, and that was it. There was no apology, no explanation, and no attempt to address the issue. I didn’t ask for any compensation—I just checked out and left. Finding a cockroach is unpleasant enough, but the complete lack of response from the hotel was even more disappointing."

"I visited The Star Grand with high expectations, but I left feeling deeply disappointed. From the moment I arrived at reception, I felt an unwelcoming atmosphere that felt like subtle discrimination. As a guest, I expected professional and equal treatment, but the staff’s attitude was far from it. The room was very basic—no Netflix, average amenities, and nothing 'grand' about it. Breakfast was also very limited. I expected a luxury experience but got something very mediocre instead. I do not recommend this place for the price."

"The hotel's location is excellent, very close to Pacific Fair Shopping Centre. The room was brand new, and I absolutely loved the floor-to-ceiling windows with their beautiful views. The only downside is that daily housekeeping isn't provided."

"The room was quite spacious, but the facilities were a bit underwhelming. For example, the balcony door lock was broken on the first day, and though it was fixed, I later discovered the hot water in the sink wasn't working. These issues should really be checked before guests check in. Luckily, everything was eventually repaired. My stay wasn't the best, but the Nepalese lady at the front desk who helped resolve the problems was excellent – thumbs up to her! Breakfast was a partnership with Harvest Buffet inside The Star, costing $30 for one adult and one child, which I thought was a reasonable price."

"The room was spacious with a 270-degree panoramic view, featuring multiple glass panels that offered great views of the outside. The balcony view was also fantastic! To the left, there's a canal in the distance, and to the right, the ocean stretching all the way to Q1 Tower. The beautiful Caucasian lady who served us was incredibly nice! The only regret is that we couldn't get a reservation at the rooftop seafood restaurant, and we weren't even allowed to go up to take a look!"

"Its best feature is its location, steps from the beach. However, it's a hotel that has been downgraded; some rooms and hallways are in dire need of maintenance. I didn't realise the pool area no longer belonged to the hotel, which was a disappointment. I feel the price is high compared to other places with more amenities and more modern facilities. Breakfast was average as well."

"The staff are so nice, and there's a room where you can store luggage. The kitchen even has an air fryer, but many of the electric kettles were broken. The fridge was super full, and there were always lots of people coming and going in the kitchen, cooking. I didn't even want to cook myself after seeing that. I recommend going down to the kitchen to cook between 5 and 7 PM; that's when it's least busy and cleanest. The room was super dark, and my roommates were long-term guests who were often resting in the room, so I was really worried about disturbing them, but they were all very nice. Australians might not be afraid of the cold; the 'duvet' was just a blanket, so remember to bring thicker pajamas in winter. After 10 PM, I could still hear singing and loud laughter from outside the room, so definitely bring earplugs! If you're looking for something cheap, this place isn't bad, and it's super close to the light rail station."

"Great location. Short walk to the beach, shops, light rail, cafes. Nice pool. You get what you pay for.  The room was spacious and comfortable,  but old and in need of an update, some fresh paint and new carpet. We were only down for 1 night to attend the footy so cost was more important than luxury for us. We’d stay here again."

"I stayed for 6 nights, and the price difference on weekends was quite significant; it's more cost-effective to book in advance. The location is convenient, with a mall, supermarket, and beach nearby. There's also an outdoor playground for children at the beach. The kitchen and laundry room were useful. The hotel doesn't offer daily cleaning, but if you need towel changes or supplies, they'll deliver them to your room when you call. Most of the staff were very friendly and enthusiastic, especially Iris and an Indian manager who were excellent! However, there was one blonde woman with a ponytail who stood out. The front desk staff rotate between guiding and greeting guests in the lobby. Every time we passed by, she pretended not to see us, and if she did, she wouldn't smile. Yet, she was exceptionally polite to other foreign guests. This was consistent over several days and quite obvious!"

"The hotel is located near the South Port South station, which is just 3-4 stations from Surfers Paradise and Cavill Ave. The room was very clean and nice. The reception was also kind and helpful."
