"Better than expected overall. Friendly staff, clean and comfortable, though the thin walls make it quite noisy. The place is dated but has a nice rustic charm. Rooms are small—fine for three people with backpacks, but tight with larger luggage. The kitchen/lounge is well equipped, though bathrooms are limited (two toilets and two showers). Great location for the Tongariro Alpine Crossing, with shuttle pick-up right outside. Limited nearby options, so bring food or eat at the on-site restaurant, which serves generous, tasty meals. Sauna is a nice bonus."
