Undiscovered gem of a hotel near San Pedro. Pros: We were looking for a place on the lower end of the price spectrum that was a one night romantic getaway for two, that I could also use my free trip coins at toward the cost of the room. Preferably including breakfast and a swimming pool with jacuzzi 😉 Not much to ask! We booked one of the cheaper rooms on the ground floor. Before check in we took an Uber to San Pedro mall to do some essential shopping and see a movie. Then we checked in and I relaxed in the jacuzzi under the San José night sky while my husband enjoyed a full workout in the gym/weights room. TV with cable was great for my husband who enjoyed the football while I enjoyed the hot shower and relaxed in the bed afterwards. We had an amazingly comfortable sleep and a delicious breakfast in the morning of gallo pinto, fresh tropical fruits, freshly squeezed watermelon juice and hot coffee. A generous check out time of 12pm meant we had more than enough time to get our things together and leave when it suited. Cons: Not many cons at this price point and value. The guy at the desk was a bit weird when we asked him for a second glass for water as there was only one in the room but not a big deal. We also had to ask him for the TV remote. The towels were a bit small like a mini dress on me after my shower. But good quality (with a third extra towel for the jacuzzi) and high quality bed linen. It also is in a slightly rough looking neighborhood but this is not a problem if you travel to and from the hotel by Uber or use a hire car (which you can park privately inside the property). Overall impression: The other photos on trip.com and similar booking sites do not do this hotel justice - it looks far better in person. It has real character since it is a restored historic hotel from an era bygone, but that is why everything is such high quality from the bed linen to the floor tiles. Everything is also in good shape and freshly painted. There a little hidden nooks around the hotel that make it very charming. The breakfast area is lovely and the jacuzzi, pool and water slide were a real highlight. We WILL be back.
Studio Hotel Boutique

I just came back from a week long trip to Costa Rica and stayed at the Studio Hotel Boutique. Everything about this hotel was wonderful. Outstanding service from the staff, beautiful hotel in a quiet part of Santa Ana, and beautiful art all over the hotel. We felt like we were staying in a museum. The restaurant had great food, and a great breakfast buffet, with a wide variety of choices for everyone. Harold who is in charge of the tours was wonderful. We contacted him before our visit, and he took care of everything for us. We always go with big chain hotels, but the price and the reviews for this hotel encouraged us to take a chance. I’m so glad we did. The price was decent and the hotel was excellent, a real find. I give this hotel 5 stars. I look forward to staying there again, and I recommend this hotel to anyone taking a trip to Costa Rica.
Hotel Residence Inn Suites Cristina

Our family had a 2 bed 1 bath apartment style unit, and it was a great amount of space. We were there for about a week and felt very homey. The breakfast every morning was absolutely fantastic, and the freshly made omelettes were delicious. Its location is fantastic as a lot of tour companies can pick up from there and a lot of fast food options nearby. The park nearby is very active, and the National soccer stadium is very close by, too. The staff is absolutely wonderful as well Sergio was amazing, as I had left something very dear to me behind on my last day, and he assured me that it would be reached back home to me and followed through with his promise. Tamara was an amazing help as well. She helped me book a couple of tours and recommended gorgeous sites to see! Overall 100/10 experience at Suites Cristina and I will definitely be staying there next time.

this hotel is very confusing to locate. there is no sign except for a banner on a fence. this hotel is attached to a Holiday inn which makes it more confusing. they literally share a courtyard and the buildings are attached. when you pull in there is nothing directing you to a lobby, no signs, luckily an employee was standing outside and they explained where to go. we have a large group of 22 and a total of 6 rooms reserved. originally we are told the 6 people checking in for each room need their passports, then he changes his mind and decides everyone needs to show their passports which i have never done before in any hotel in Costa Rica out of all the trips and hotels we stayed at. they take all our passports and write down all the names and passport numbers for all 22 guests which i was very uncomfortable with. we were flying out very early in the morning so we had no choice. There were 3 people working the front desk at some point a 4th guy showed up, 2 of the clerks were friendly but the main guy was condescending and rude! we finally get our keys, only 1 room was given the complimentary bottle of wine. the rooms were dirty, dark, and smelled awful, a mix of paint, mold, and chemicals. the rooms look nothing like the pictures advertised, im sure many years ago they did but now theyre dirty and outdated. our balcony door did not close, it was held open by the chain lock but the door knob would not latch so the door remained slightly open. bugs were flying in so my husband rigged the door to keep it closed, not locked just closed enough to keep bugs out. we went downstairs to pick up some dinner leaving our 17 year old taking a shower. we had requested towels since there was only 2 and 4 of us, i guess they decided to let themselves in while we were out, my son heard the door and assumed it was us returning until several minutes later someone knocked on the bathroom door! they started speaking to my son in spanish which he does not speak, he was totally freaked out! why would you stay in the room if you heard the shower on?! then he doesnt even leave! my son said it was several minutes later that he finally left the room!! what the hell was he doing in our room for so long?!!! My sister was given someone else's room and when she went down to let them know the room was locked they insisted she wasnt using the key card correctly so they walked her back up, tried the card but the door was locked with the safety pin so it only opened slightly, the guy then tried pushing the door open with his body when a gentleman appears inside startled from being woken up to someone trying to break into his room! my sister was embarrassed, explained what happened and apologized. HOW DOES A FRONT DESK NOT KNOW WHAT ROOMS THEY HAVE ALREADY FILLED?!?! completely unacceptable! DO NOT STAY HERE!!! there are so many options nearby find anywhere else to stay.

We felt that for an upscale hostel, this place was on a whole, a great experience. My only suggestion is that the rooms need more ventilation. Our 4 person dorm room had a tiny window blocked by the beds. Putting a vent fan in the window would solve this issue. Otherwise, for what it is we loved our 2-night stay here. This was at the end of our 3 week trip and had been to many towns and places across the country, I'd say we met the most friends here and had the best time. The cafe could use more larger/common tables but we were able to meet people easily regardless. They have activities and events to encourage interaction as well as a bar and pizza oven. While these amenities are overpriced, they were convenient and similar to other hotel restaurants/cafes. We didn't feel the staff was pushy at all and if we just wanted to hang out in the cafe we weren't bothered and didn't feel forced to buy something. (and probably because of this, we usually did buy food or drinks) The location was good enough - we could walk to the central market / pedestrian mall in 10 minutes. It's walkable (during daytime) from the 7-10 bus station and the Tuasa bus to the airport. The co-working space we felt was a good value, and fantastic. High powered wifi can support video meetings and it's just across the street. Also somewhat social and a good environment to work. The staff and regular patrons were amazing and we felt that we had new friends as soon as we arrived. The place had a warm feeling that I can't quite describe, created by both the staff and the guests. We didn't want to leave.

After the blow and hammer of a tough day, a warmhearted, thoughtful concierge greeted me and made me feel right at home. My cozy, quiet, very comfortable and elegant room felt safe and conducive to rest. Sleep-deprived, I slept, for the first time in a long time, the night through. Kind and cordial servers offered the free breakfast with a variety of American and Spanish choices. Each server thrived on sending happiness and laughter to us when apt, even offering, when conversation invited, fun, day-travel suggestions. They created the atmosphere that invited conversation between travelers and truly made my day fresh and inspiring. Even my work became a breeze. I will never forget these people and the happy feeling in my heart.

I cannot say one bad thing about this place. First class all the way. Beautiful rooms, rain shower heads, best beds and pillows ever, great and kind beautiful staff. The guys at the front desk became very vested in us, giving us info, storing our bags, always dressed perfectly, and always carrying themselves professionally. The breakfast buffet in the morning was great! The hotel is located in a quiet part of town, yet very close to bus routes, major highways, groceries, and parks. Guests have access to the pool next door which was small and cozy. There us a small gym downstairs with a few machines and weights. And of course the small ****** around the corner. A great value!

I’ve stayed in a ton of low-budget hotels and hostels, but this is the first time I’ve ever just swallowed the money that I pre-paid for a place and left for a different hotel. I know you get what you pay for - in this case a really basic room with one tiny bedside lamp in a seedy part of town, and we were ok with that, but the room just reeked. After opening the windows and it not getting any better, I went back downstairs and quietly asked if we could see another room if one was available. The desk guy had a long conversation with the manager in the office behind, took another key and followed me back to the room to check. “It could just be the cleaning product we use in all the bathrooms” he said. “I’m pretty sure it’s more than that - it’s really bad” I said. “You can feel it burning in your throat”. “I’m sorry, the manager told me you could not see another room”, he replied, and left still holding the key to a different room in his hand. My friend then went to check out the shared bathrooms on the floor. “They smell fine” he said. So I booked a room in another place nearby (Fleur de Lys - a bit more expensive but clean, comfortable, with a super friendly front desk). As we were waiting with our bags back down to the lobby, the desk guy eventually appears again, with a reluctant “You don’t have to go, I will show you the other room.” Ugh. Finally, you have to be both buzzed into the place and buzzed out, and if the front desk guy is off doing something else, be prepared to wait. And wait... Pretty sad place.
