Good location (turning corner is the cathedral) but it is a hotel attached to the restaurant, so I waited for a long time when I checked in. No one at the counter rang. No one waited for more than 10 minutes. Others were waiting. There was no elevator. I helped to get it up (4th floor) Check out and wait for no one to hang down by themselves. It took a long time for someone to check out. Living in the attic is a bit cold. The quilt is not warm enough. The spare parts are good.
Stayed here on Fri 29th Nov. First impressions were good. all the staff were friendly and extremely helpful.
The room was well laid out, with a large warm bathroom. Plenty of space to move around. Our room overlooked the Christmas tree on the roundabout, which meant we had a bit of traffic noise through the night, but not intrusive or enough to disturb sleep. nice offering of teas, coffees, biscuits. Breakfast was made to order, so nice and hot with quality produce. we had a full cooked breakfast, which was delicious.
If I'm being really picky, the shower lacked any power, which meant I had to take the shower head off the riser rail and crouch in the bath.
Would definitely stay again and recommend.
It was my second times staying at HIE in york, every thing was good as always, breakfast should have eggs though, as Not everyone can eat sausages and bacon.
Wow! Booked last minute for 3 of us, didn’t see any photos of the room so were very surprised. I just booked as it said 3 beds, included breakfast and was in the town itself. The room was huge. There was 1 room with a four poster bed and a second room with a double and a single with really high ceilings. There was even a hallway when entering the room and the bathroom had a bath and separate shower. Everything was clean, beds really comfortable. Tea and nespresso coffee machine with a nice selection of biscuits. One of the rooms was slightly cold but they had provided plug in heaters. We overlooked the pump room museum. It was so close to town, the valley gardens and Betty’s tea room. It was a tad expensive but to be expected as booked last minute. Parking if you could get a space is £12 and has to be vacated by 12 noon, unfortunately I had to park elsewhere but it was not too far (jubilee car park for about £14).
Breakfast was good but the room was even more impressive with lovely ornate ceilings, pillars and atmospheric lighting. There was a hot and cold selection, not huge but sufficient. Would have been nice to have more veg options such as veg sausages and I noticed that the same spoon was being used to serve the black pudding as the fried eggs so I stayed away and had scrambled instead.
All in all a very pleasant stay.
Good location. Nice and quiet. Riverside and picturesque. Didn’t use any facilities or have breakfast so unable to comment. We came on motorcycles and it was nice for them to let us park them in the courtyard. Thank you. Room had a double bed plus 2 more singles! Shower design needs to be improved though as all the floor gets wet.
The hotel was much better than the reviews would suggest. It is clean and simple and the interior is very nice. Check-out is at 10am which is super early and there is no place to store luggage - so if you go for the day with the intention of having a look around Scarborough either before arrivals or after this is not an option. Staff member on arrival was very kind but quite rude on exit.
beautiful seaview with large indoor space
friendly reception and bartender
great storage service
the only thing is……it's no a easy job to carry your suitbase all the way up to the spot
you have to make some scarifice for the view that makes sense anyway.
Me and my boyfriend stayed at Tan Hill for one night on 28th Dec and absolutely loved the experience. It was our first time there and we had heard great things about the place. It definitely lived up to our expectations! Rooms were very cosy, loved the decor and the extra touches such as bottles of water and biscuits for the tea in the room. The staff did really well considering how busy the place was and they were more than happy to help. We enjoyed both our two course evening meal and our breakfast in the morning. As well as the inside of the place, the drive up and surrounding area is lovely (especially as it was snowing when we went). We would really like to make staying here a regular thing when we go back to normality and would like to try the camping in the summer months.
This hotel is close to the train station (just a few minutes' walk) and not far from York’s main attractions like York Minster, The Shambles, and the Jorvik Viking Centre. Guests appreciate the friendly staff, who are welcoming and helpful.
One of the highlights of staying here is the complimentary breakfast, which includes a good selection of hot and cold items. A special touch is the make-your-own waffle station, which many guests enjoy. The rooms are clean, modern, and comfortable, with all the amenities needed for a pleasant stay.

Ddashv1llWe had a lovely stay at Diamonds Inn. We booked the Standard Suite, Ensuite 3-bed room which is located at the top floor of the building. A very quaint compact en-suite family room great for a group of friends or family. All basic amenities are there including towels, shampoo and shower gels. There’s also an electric water kettle, coffee/tea, hair dryer and a small fridge! Beds are soft and comfy. Walls are thin and may hear voices of other guests in the halls during the day but was not a major issue during our stay, mostly quiet after 10pm. Location is very convenient as its only a stones throw away from one of the famous wall entrances, a pub and restaurant across and York Minster. Host was lovely and friendly as well, called to ask if we can get an early check-in and was happy to accommodate us.

NnigelFirst the positives.
The room was very clean, comfortable and bathroom was obviously recently refurbished.
Breakfast was excellent and good value, but more on that later.
Now the not so good, or could do better!
The check in policy is ludicrous, I understand they need to have a designated check in time, but whilst waiting (40 minutes) I overheard the staff clearly stating that all rooms were ready for guests, but as people were entering the reception they were informed that check was not possible until 3pm and they had to wait or pay £10.00 for an early check in!
The result was a packed reception and when they did commence check in, due to a “new system “ it was painfully slow! Very poor customer service.
The breakfast was good value, but the attitude of the cashier guy was poor at best, probably rude if to be defined. On approaching him I was asked “ breakfast for two “ to which I replied “ no there’s only one” to which he snapped “ well I’m not to know that!”
Not expected and yes rude!

SSubarna1990Amazing hotel with amazing views right next to the river. Very clean, friendly staff. The hotel however could do with an upgrade of facilities. It’s situated in a very convenient location. Highly recommend and would love to come back.
GGuest UserWe booked the family room as visiting friends in the village. Well the room was more like a an apartment, with a separate room with two single beds for the kids. Lovely decor and nice bedding. The rooms were immaculate and fitted out to a high standard. Charming views of the river. We had a lovely evening meal downstairs. If you try the speciality Parmo, be warned that a whole one is definitely one for those with a big appetite. The location is great with an easy walk to local shops and centre of the village. The continental breakfast was also very generous and set us up for the day. In summary, we were really impressed with the rooms and would definitely book again for our next visit and would highly recommend it. Thank you to all the team at The Buck.
GGuest UserThe room is clean and tidy. It is very close to the train station, which makes it convenient to take the train. The hotel environment is good and the staff service is good. It is suitable for travelers who are catching the train. I will stay here again next time.
