Hot Springs Hotels in Kagoshima

"I originally wanted to book the highly recommended Shiroyama Hotel, mainly to see the active volcano scenery in Kagoshima! But I booked too late. I saw that this art hotel was also said to offer good value for money. The only downside is that it's a bit far from Kagoshima-Chuo, so you'll need to take a taxi, otherwise, the bus ride takes over half an hour. The room with a view is indeed outstanding. However, the hotel is a bit old, and the facilities are a bit dated. Plus, there's no hot spring, and the only swimming pool is closed in winter. There's also an outdoor spa that requires advance booking and a swimsuit, which I unfortunately didn't bring, so I had to give it a miss. The front desk staff spoke good English. The only issue was that on weekends, breakfast was super crowded, and we had to queue for half an hour 😮💨. However, the breakfast spread was quite rich. Overall, it's not bad, especially suitable for those traveling by car."

"Absolutely loved this hotel! It's nestled quietly on a hillside, directly facing Sakurajima, and we were incredibly lucky to witness the volcano erupting. The gentleman at the hotel entrance, dressed in an old-fashioned uniform, was so friendly. He saw us taking photos and specially came over to take a group picture for us, and it turned out great! The hotel offers various dining options and a convenience store. The breakfast, though, was the real highlight – easily one of the best quality breakfasts I've had in a Japanese hotel. The hot springs (onsen) were also wonderfully relaxing and fully equipped. Highly recommend!"

"I often travel to Japan, and Dormy Inn rooms always seem to be in high demand. The 20+ sqm twin rooms, perfect for two adults and one child, are usually impossible to book. So, when I saw this room type available in Kagoshima, I decided to book it for one night. Overall, my experience fell short of expectations. Unfortunately, neither adult could enjoy the onsen (hot springs) for personal reasons, which is arguably the hotel's main highlight – a real shame. The room itself was a bit small, and while cleanliness was decent, the toilet emitted a persistent garlic-like odor. On the positive side, the dining options were excellent. Breakfast featured Kagoshima's special black pork shabu-shabu and a type of sashimi. Complimentary ice cream and Yakult were available all day in the lounge on the hot spring floor, and free soy sauce ramen was served after 9:30 PM. Given these amenities, I'd say it's best suited for adults who plan to fully utilize the onsen facilities. What truly made the stay less than ideal wasn't just my inability to use the onsen. More significantly, during check-in, the front desk informed me that my reservation did not include a 3-year-old child, resulting in an additional charge for the child's accommodation and meals. This wasn't the hotel's fault, and honestly, I'm not sure who to blame. I distinctly remember booking for two adults and one child, so I'm puzzled about what went wrong in the process. Perhaps Dormy Inn and I simply weren't a good match this time. I'm well aware that Japanese hotels charge per person, so I always meticulously enter the correct number of guests and compare prices across different platforms when booking in Japan. Having visited Japan over a dozen times, this was the first instance where I was charged extra at check-in due to a discrepancy in the number of guests. I was quite surprised when informed about the booking error. Checking my Trip.com confirmation on my phone at the front desk, I saw it indeed only listed two adults. I can only fault myself for never reviewing the confirmation after booking; moving forward, I'll be sure to check them carefully to catch and correct any issues promptly. After reporting this to Trip.com customer service, they responded quickly and later reimbursed me half of the additional cost. During this trip, both hotels I booked through Trip.com had unexpected additional charges at check-in. Besides the Dormy Inn incident, another hotel in Fukuoka charged a separate accommodation tax. Interestingly, I booked a different hotel in Fukuoka on another platform, and its price already included this tax, so I didn't pay anything extra upon arrival. Moving forward, when booking hotels in Japan, I'll have to carefully consider if the lowest price offered on certain platforms might be due to hidden fees."

"Very good hotel and we got a good deal to stay. The male staff from front desk explained to us on all the nitty gritty, in a typical Japanese polite way. Onsen is at 4 floors and it is typical Japanese Onsen. There are washing and drying facilities on the 4th floor which is budget friendly, where we wash our laundry. The hotel however is away from the town center which might be inconvenient for some travellers that wan to walk around."

"I highly recommend this hotel when visiting Kagoshima – it's incredibly convenient! They have a delicious local pork hotpot right in the hotel (reservations recommended, portions are small). After dinner, you can head to the supermarket next door for a stroll and find a fantastic selection of strawberries. Afterwards, just pop up to the 5th floor for a relaxing hot spring bath. There's a tram stop right outside the hotel, but for places like the aquarium and Sakurajima ferry terminal, it's a bit more convenient to take a taxi (around 1,000 yen, very close). On the day we left, the sun finally came out, and we got to enjoy a beautiful view of Sakurajima right from our room!"

"The room was very relaxing and I feel that the quality of the hot springs was also effective for skin roughness. I spent a little hurry, but I really wanted to spend more time in the room while looking at the ferry. The clothes in the hall were also prepared for each size of the original 々 room, but I felt very kind to prepare a small size for my 々 small parents and children. Even if you stay without meals, there is an A-corp nearby, so it is quite easy to get food from Kagoshima such as Campach (sashimi). I bought Chiran tea here as a souvenir. The only thing that's really unfortunate is the laundry facilities. Both washing machines and dryers are cheap at 100 yen (payment at the hot spring reception), but they are very ordinary home appliances, and the dryer is certainly 200 yen and does not dry even if it turns for nearly an hour. It is said that it should not be turned for more than an hour, and it can't be helped by raising it with half drying ... It doesn't matter if the price is high, so I hope you will consider introducing a washing dryer for commercial use. But other than that, I really really liked it. I will definitely go to stay again."

"The room is a tatami room. Those who have not experienced it can try it. However, the room I stayed in had a strong smell. The room was big enough, but the worst thing was that the toilet was too smelly. It should be the smell from the sink outside."

"They changed my room on Christmas day and I ended up somewhere right under a staircase and the whole night I could hear people walking down and up. Didn't sleep at all. But the staff is wonderful and the onsen is the best"

"親子3人で旅行に行きました。3人1部屋だとベッドが大小１つづつの２つのことが多いけどこちらのホテルはちゃんと３つあり、まずそこから感動しました。 Ｌ字のお部屋でテーブルがあるところと、ベッドのところにそれぞれテレビもありそれも良かったです。 駅からも近かったし、2階に温泉もあり小さい露天風呂ぽいのもありました。お風呂の化粧台は４つしかなかったので、人が混む時間だとお部屋で髪の毛乾かすことになると思います。 素泊まりプランだったけど当日の朝にフロントに連絡した朝ご飯を1人1,600円でつけてもらえました。 ビュッフェの残り時間がなくてバタバタになってしまったけど、時間があまりないので欲しいものはたくさん取られて下さいと優しく教えて下さいましたので、テーブルに持ってきた後は食事をゆっくり頂くことができました。ホテルの人がみんな優しくてとても良かったです。 お部屋のお風呂は使わなかったけど浴槽もしっかり大きめで良かったです。"

"This is a hotel with history. That is, old. There is a slight smell when you first enter the room, but you can ventilate by opening the window. It is very attractive that parking is free at a hotel located downtown, and since there were not many guests, we were able to rent out the large public bathhouse. The sauna was not operating. The view from the large bath located on the top floor is also quite nice. The hot spring water quality is very good."
