"This hotel/guesthouse is absolutely fantastic! It's very close to Mingsha Mountain, and the Mogao Grottoes are just a 15-minute drive away. The lovely guesthouse owners prepared welcome apricot tea, and they do an excellent job maintaining the place. Our room was spacious and clean, and the triple room had a balcony, though we didn't use it much. The common areas, both on the rooftop and the ground floor, are perfect for relaxing and enjoying the breeze in the evening – very comfortable."

"The front desk staff were incredibly warm and helpful. They even walked me to the door and patiently explained the local routes. Anything I needed, they promptly brought to my room. I'm planning to stay here again in the winter! It's very close to the night market, but the hotel's design is so well-thought-out that there's no noise at night. They even thoughtfully offered apricot tea! Dining and transportation in the area are very convenient. It's also close to the Dunhuang Museum and several lamb restaurants that locals love, highly recommended! Getting to the Mogao Grottoes, the airport, and the train station is also very easy. The hotel offers affordable shuttle services, which is especially great for those who need it, particularly if you're arriving late at night!"

"Stumbled upon an absolute gem of a guesthouse during my trip here, and I just have to rave about it! The room was spotless, with a rustic, wooden decor perfectly complemented by unique ethnic tapestries, creating an incredibly atmospheric, quaint, and healing vibe. The bedding on both beds was soft and gentle on the skin, making for a truly relaxing and comfortable stay. The owner is incredibly warm and friendly, always going out of their way to fulfill any request. They even thoughtfully prepared some sweet and juicy local apricots for us – absolutely delicious! For getting around, there's an adorable electric trishaw available, which made exploring nearby attractions so convenient and hassle-free. The value for money here is off the charts; the room rates are affordable, and you won't be disappointed. Overall, the environment is cozy, and the service is attentive – you can feel the care put into every detail. It’s perfect for both short getaways and longer trips. I genuinely recommend it to anyone visiting this area; I'll definitely choose this place again next time!"

"Traveling through the Northwest with kids, we've stayed in many hotels and B&Bs, but this is the only one I felt compelled to review after checking out. I asked the owner to upload some photos, but they're probably too busy to do so. So, a text review it is. What surprised me most was the in-room washing machine. After checking in, we immediately headed to Crescent Spring, and when we returned, our clothes were covered in sand and dust, unwearable. In chain hotels, they usually have only two washers and two dryers for hundreds of rooms, and someone is always monopolizing them, taking ages. If you encounter an inconsiderate guest, you'll be waiting for at least an hour and a half, which is frustrating. This time, I just threw the dirty clothes into our own washing machine, washed and dried them, and the next day we were ready to go, clean and fresh. For those on a road trip, this feature is an absolute lifesaver. The smart home system is also very convenient. Voice-controlled lights and curtains mean you don't have to fumble for switches in the dark with kids, which was a good experience. The room itself is spacious; we could spread out our luggage without feeling cramped at all. I originally wanted to include some room photos, but we were so rushed during our trip that I didn't even take any myself, and the owner hasn't sent the ones I asked for. So, this will just be a pure text review. My only minor regret: the owner mentioned that they couldn't get the linens clean enough, so they are temporarily using disposable towels. While I understand the operational difficulties, for guests, disposable towels simply don't absorb as well or feel as good as regular linens, which slightly impacts the showering experience. I hope they can revert to regular towels soon. Overall, it's clean, spacious, offers the freedom of an in-room washing machine, and is smart and convenient. It's highly recommended for families on a road trip with kids. I had planned to write a separate accommodation summary upon my return, but work and health issues came up, and then it was time for the kids to go back to school, so it's been delayed until now. I wanted to make sure to review this place first, as I genuinely recommend it to anyone who needs it."

"I specifically chose a room with a viewing terrace, and sitting there in the evening watching the desert sunset was absolutely breathtaking. The orange-red glow spread across the dunes, a scene so beautiful it left me speechless. The air conditioning in the room worked perfectly, and the private bathroom was clean and refreshing. There's a bus downstairs that goes to Mingsha Mountain, and it's only 6 stops away. 4. The hotel thoughtfully provided plenty of drinking water, placed conveniently by the elevator on each floor for guests to take whenever needed. Downstairs, apricot skin tea and coffee are available all day."

This is the second part of our review: - The accomodation has rooms on ground floor and first floor. - the rooms on 1st floor, the breakfast hall on the second floor with the rooftop can be reached by stairs or a modern elevator!!! It is certainly exceptional among private housings in the area! - if you are lazy to stay on the dunes to watch the drone show, you can watch it partially from the rooftop on some days :)) Our host with his wife and his trainee colleague provided genuine Chinese hospitality. Additionally when we encountered trouble at ticket purchase Mogao Cave ticket office he did not hesitate to jump into his car, he drove 25 minutes just to talk to the ticket sellers in person! Otherwise we could not have been able to arrange any slot. It is only thanks to him we got a slot booked 2 days later. I hope this describes clearly that the hosts of Yuzu Residence/ Cloud Trail Manor are giving more than 100% to their guests to ensure a perfect time in Dunhuang! Thank you for everything!!

Great atmosphere. The tent/bedding was much cleaner than expected despite being in the middle of desert . The heater works well. The owner took his time to take great care of us (noted that we didn’t go during high-season); very service-minded. He took us to/from airports and different tourist spots. Also provided us with many additional activities (not excluded in the initial program of camel riding) such as ATV riding, sand hill sliding, firework. The hotpot/grill dinner was delicious! The whole room was filled with the fresh scent of pine. I woke up to birdsong every morning, and opening the window revealed endless wheat fields and snow-capped mountains in the distance. The room was clean and odor-free, with excellent heating perfect for the chilly mountain weather. The 24-hour hot water was a real comfort. The hosts were incredibly kind and welcoming, even accommodating my late-night arrival with patience. Their homemade breakfast was delicious and well-balanced, featuring local ingredients like free-range chicken and wild vegetables. You can enjoy the sunset and stargazing right from the courtyard, saving you the hassle of driving to scenic spots. This place offers incredible value for money and I highly recommend it, especially for those on a road trip or photography enthusiasts.

Absolutely loved this hotel! The service was excellent, and the breakfast offered a great variety. The room was spacious, and we even got a free upgrade. The location is fantastic – just cross the Dunhuang Mother River in front, and you'll find all sorts of restaurants with good prices. They have a laundry room, making it incredible value for money. Plus, with the desert heat, having unlimited bottled water was such a thoughtful and considerate touch. A truly caring hotel!

We made a mistake choosing this hotel: the word “international” led us to believe it would be better prepared to receive foreign guests, but that was not our experience. That said, the staff’s service was excellent at all times. Although they did not speak English, they consistently made the effort to use translation tools to communicate with us and assist us in the best possible way, which we truly appreciated. The hotel was almost empty. The first breakfast took place in a huge dining area where we were the only guests, which meant the variety was quite limited. There was some Chinese food and a coffee machine, but there were no options commonly expected by international travelers, such as fruit, cereals, yogurt, or bread. That same day, we were informed that the rest of the breakfasts would be delivered directly to our room. The staff made a continuous effort to ensure we felt comfortable with this arrangement, confirming the delivery time with us each day. The room was spacious and comfortable. However, the cleanliness did not match the hotel’s level and price: the carpet had visible stains, and finding a toothpick at the entrance made it clear that cleaning standards were not adequate. In addition, the amount of shampoo and soap provided was extremely limited—again, not consistent with the quality one would expect given the building and overall appearance of the hotel. In summary, we would like to highlight the kindness and dedication of the staff, but we believe the hotel still has important aspects to improve, especially regarding international standards and cleanliness.

I stayed at this hotel at the beginning of May, and it was a great experience. The location is amazing — feels like you’re in the middle of the desert—which gave me a peaceful break from the hustle and bustle of city life.  The room I stayed in was absolutely beautiful and very cozy. The hotel owner and staff were exceptionally kind and helpful. They assisted me with various inquiries and even helped me take some great photos, which I really appreciated. The on-site activities were a highlight of my stay. I got to try camel riding, sand sliding, and even riding a motorcycle through the dunes. These were all new experiences for me, and I had so much fun. Overall, I had a great time and would recommend this hotel to anyone looking for a unique and relaxing desert getaway. Wonderful inn at an unbeatable price. The free airport transfer was very smooth, and we were given early check in and a free room upgrade (get the desert view, it's worth it! You can see the ming sha dunes change colour throughout the day, as well as goats and alpacas roaming the property.) The room was very clean, especially the washroom and shower, and the water pressure and hot water was very good. I think this is a family-run place, because the atmosphere is very open and warm. The owners were helpful with providing tips on how to get around and were always around to help and say hello and goodbye as you left and came back. It is just a bit outside the city centre, which adds to the charm; we called didi for most of our transport. The inn is also only about 3km to the mingsha dunes and crescent lake, which allowed me to go twice during my trip (one ticket is good for three days of entries). I have travelled all around China for one month, and this is my pick for a value stay.

This is the only guesthouse on our Qinghai-Gansu Grand Loop trip that I actually wanted to write a review for! 👉🏻👉🏻👉🏻 We heard about it from fellow travelers, and it had only been open a few days when we arrived, so we were pleasantly surprised. The owner is incredibly kind and enthusiastic (super friendly!!!). We arrived late at night, and they were worried we hadn't eaten, so they specially made us some saozi noodles and brought fruit 🍝. I used my Ctrip points to get a free room upgrade, and the upgraded room came with a bathtub (in a twin room), which was incredibly relaxing after a long day of travel. The environment is clean and peaceful, the facilities are complete, and the overall stay was perfect. As a 'pet-friendly' guesthouse, their little 'housekeeper' Panpan (a pet) is also adorable, quiet, and very friendly. Here’s a little more about the staff: 👉🏻 The landlady: Enthusiastic and loves to chat, she was essentially our main point of contact during our stay 👍. The landlord: A classic, quiet Northwestern man, but he silently fulfills our requests (like boiling water for tea, etc.). The young boss: A very shy young man.

If life is a never-ending journey, then the camping trip at the Desert Star Hotel is undoubtedly a highlight of my journey. When I arrived at the campsite, the first thing that attracted me was the unique tent house. Unlike regular tents, the top of the tent is made of special transparent materials, like a huge viewing platform, which builds a bridge of communication between me and the vast galaxy. As night fell, I couldn't wait to lie on the soft bed, and when I looked up, the bright starry sky was presented to me without reservation. The stars twinkled, like gems inlaid on the black sky, beautiful as a dream. At that moment, the world seemed to press the mute button, and the impetuousness and noise in my heart were instantly soothed. The unique beauty of this quietness made me intoxicated. It is worth mentioning that the hotel staff is very considerate. After placing the order, the customer service guy at the front desk added our contact information and gave us some local travel tips, which saved us a lot of time. From the warm reception at check-in, to the careful guidance during the activities, to the warm greetings at night, every detail made people feel cared for. They not only provided me with thoughtful service, but also made me feel the simplicity and enthusiasm of the desert people. This desert camping trip not only allowed me to appreciate the magnificent scenery of the desert, but also experienced exciting and interesting activities, which became an eternal and beautiful memory in my heart.

The hotel is located outside the city of Dunhuang, in fact, I never visited the city. But it's close to the train station and to the Mogao Caves Visitor Center, which is the reason most people come to Dunhuang. The staff does not speak English but will try to help you as much as possible, with a cell phone translator. The room was very big, I would say it was the biggest so far, very comfortable, with a view of an agricultural field. At night, if the sky is clear, you can watch the stars since there is no light pollution. The nearest restaurant was about 600 m away, and they had to call the cook to come from home when I got there. After that I decided to dine on instant noodles. The hotel staff invited me to eat dinner with their family. I noticed that later in the evening a bus full of tourist arrived to the hotel. Apparently that's who they cater for. Since I did not get up early, the breakfast was basically finished and cold.
