Nestled in the mountains of Oku-Kurokawa Onsen, Miyama Sanso offers a serene retreat. The main building and ten thatched-roof cottages comprise a total of eighteen beautifully appointed guest rooms. Here, nature is left untouched—you can immerse yourself in the sounds of insects and birds, the whisper of the wind, the brilliance of the sun, and the beauty of the setting sun. It is a place where you can experience Japan’s original landscape and spend time away from the ordinary. At night, with outdoor lights kept to a minimum, look up at the sky and you will find a natural planetarium filled with countless stars—so mesmerizing that you may lose track of time.Savor locally grown rice harvested from our own fields, paired with the pure spring water of Aso, and enjoy creative kaiseki cuisine crafted by skilled Japanese chefs—an experience that delights both the eyes and the palate. Then, unwind in our hot springs, surrounded by refreshing mountain air, and let your heart and body find true relaxation.

"Pros- spacious villa, quality bedding and large private indoor onsen( see picture 13). We also like the public outdoor onsen in the sister ryokan nearby. There is a little cafe there you can buy drinks and coffee, run by an adorable old couple, very nice and polite. We spent a lot of time there just chilling and listening to the music. Cons- Living room: we were only able to book the western style villa as it’s a little last minute trip. The living room is basic, bland, with sofa, instead or tatami. Our room 512 is next to the car park. Parking lot in front of your main door is not very pleasant. Food : just soso. Nothing extraordinary. See picture. No horse sashimi, the presentation of the steak is really ordinary - disappointing. Perhaps because we had such an amazing meals in the previous ryokan this became a massive letdown. Dinner served in a large public dining room, lack of the privacy and intimacy ther ryokan provide ( we had private dining room in another ryokan 野之花during this trip). I got to see other couples but also feeling like we are being watched. Service- served by young people, not much attentiveness you would expect in traditional ryokan, lack of the warmth and ritual. Reception- 3 star at best. A basic room with uncomfortable chair while you wait to be checked in. We arrived around 2:30pm, and was told that check in can only start at 3pm, and please wait. So we sat at the hard chair and forced to watch the promotional video until 3pm. Conclusion - 3.5 star ryokan, not the most exciting or exclusive villa we have stayed. Maybe it would get better once the trees grow thicker and staff better trained. The sister Ryokan nearby has better feel of environment and feels more established."

We are proud of the quality for the low price.Room with two meals is from 6,000 yen (tax excluded)!

"The location itself is practically impossible to get to without a car. Parking is conveniently provided, as it's exclusive to the ryokan. The surrounding atmosphere is very satisfying. However, you'll need to rent everything from towels to yukatas at the ryokan. Breakfast is simple. There's a nearby place offering free sulfur hell steaming, so you can just buy eggs and cook them yourself (50 yen). You can also make other sulfur-based dishes if you'd like! I was disappointed that there was only one hot spring, and the water wasn't particularly special. Overall... Spend more and go somewhere better."

"This is the largest onsen hotel in Kurokawa; in fact, it's the only large-scale hotel there, all others are inns. The hotel itself is quite spacious, featuring three public baths and two private onsens. If there are many people, you might have to wait in line at the entrance, but it's usually not too long. It operates on a one-night, two-meal basis. Dinner is a buffet with a good variety of dishes. The taste is decent, nothing spectacular but not bad either. I personally quite enjoyed the breakfast, which was also very plentiful. Our room had a bed, not a tatami mat. I thought it was pretty good, even though it was small. The bathroom had a separate wet and dry area and was very clean, although the yukata was a bit unflattering. The hotel has a rooftop with what was supposed to be a telescope, but it was out of order when we visited. In the evenings, there's a mini-bar offering some drinks and snacks."

Aso Canyon Terrace & Lodge is a resort hotel located at the gateway to Aso, surrounded by the caldera. Adjacent to the Trial Golf & Resort ASO COURSE, this resort offers breathtaking panoramic views of Aso and Kumamoto City. Be sure to enjoy the impressive new attraction, the “Aso Swing.”

"The hotel room has a great view, which makes me feel really relaxed. The hot spring is open until 11:00 p.m., which is perfect for unwinding. The only downside is that there’s no bathroom in the room, so you’ll have to use the public bath. If you can’t make it to the hot spring at night, there won’t be any other place to take a dip, so that’s a bit of a bummer. On the bright side, there’s a golf course right next to the hotel with a beautiful environment. Lots of locals and tourists come to play golf there. The room is also really big and comfortable, so you’ll feel like you’re sleeping in the sky."

"Супер рекан. Очень чисто и номер отлично оснащен. Очень вкусное и разнообразное кайсэки. Есть семейные онсены и общие в самом рекане. Для купания в ванне под открытым небом надо идти в гору через реку, что не очень удобно. В целом, понравилось. Учтите, что душ и удобства общие и находятся в онсене, туалет и умывальник - в каждом номере свои. В целом, для остановки на 1 день не доставляет неудобства."

The property offers free pick-up services from Kurokawa Onsen Bus Stop when reserved at the time of booking.

"The service is very good. I came in advance to inquire about the pick-up information. I received a courier reply via email. The young man at the front desk spoke good English. We stayed in the main building this time. The room was well maintained and had a large balcony corridor. The only regret is that the open-air bath is a mixed bath and can only be used by women from 8 to 10 pm. It would be better if there is a chance to enjoy the beautiful scenery during the day ~"

"The resort location is accessible actually by bus from tateno 立野 station and the last bus is in the evening you may check the timetable online. We did not drive and leaving the accommodation is less convenient because all taxis were booked out but the staff was very friendly as to driving us to the nearby train station to continue our journey to Aso Volcano. Service was good. The private onzen was amazing and we were able to use it for one hour. The public bath was good too but the amenities they provided inside were not as enough, eg they don't have comb for ladies and make up removing pads. Other than that, cleanliness was amazing and staff were friendly, rooms had amazing Mountain View's."

"It was the best part of my trip to Fukuoka, Aso, and Kurokawa. If you have a rental car, I highly recommend it! It's about 6 minutes from Kurokawa, so it's not that far, and it was a great place to feel nature and experience Japanese traditions rather than the bustle of Kurokawa. Here, I experienced two famous places in Kurokawa: open air, and my whole family said this was the best. It was a fun time at a house like Totoro Forest :)"

"A very satisfying stay! The design of the cabin is stunning. The two-story independent cabin allows children to climb up and down as much as they like. The owner of the B&B is very enthusiastic. Even if he doesn't understand the language, he tries his best to use translation software to introduce Kurokawa Onsen's attractions and B&B facilities. It really makes people feel like returning to their hometown. Kurokawa is very quiet at night, and you can really enjoy the tranquility and leisure of the deep mountain hot springs. The cabin is fully equipped and can be used for simple cooking. I cooked Japanese sukiyaki pot with the children in the cabin, which was very satisfying! The outdoor hot spring in the B&B is another amazing place. Because it was summer, we didn’t make a reservation for the hot spring. The owner of the B&B enthusiastically invited us to enjoy it (unexpectedly). Unexpectedly, it turned out to be an independent open-air hot spring. I highly recommend making a reservation. It’s too Feel comfortable! The next day, the children were very reluctant to say goodbye to the owner of the B&B and the owner's dog. Along the way, they still missed the comfortable bed (actually just a tatami sleeping mat) in the B&B. I will definitely visit again next time I have the opportunity! GGuest UserThe whole experience was fantastic! The inn lives up to its name, surrounded by mountains and forests, with the sound of the river and the aroma of burning longan wood, taking the sensory experience to another level! Every service was incredibly attentive! Unfortunately, I couldn't eat much, but both dinner and breakfast were absolutely delicious! After a hot spring bath, you absolutely must try the Kurokawa milk and coffee milk! It was superb and so enjoyable! The only downside is that it's a bit far from town, but having the shuttle service is really great! I'll definitely visit again if I get the chance, and staying for a few nights would be even more enjoyable!

GGuest UserOne of the best hotels I have stayed in in Japan! When we drove to the door, someone was already there to help us carry our luggage to the room! The room is also very large and very clean, and the private hot spring is really nice! The only thing you need to pay attention to is that the place is relatively remote, which will be more troublesome if you are not traveling by car~

AAnonymous UserI remember seeing a review that said, ”Except for the high price, everything else is very good.” Sure enough. This hotel has only eight suites (or villas with hot springs inside). Each villa has its own name and has its own characteristics. The hotel we stayed at this time was called Gongzhang. The room is very large, decorated with antique style, spotlessly clean. The privacy is extremely high. Your own suite has a dining room with a charcoal grill (you can choose to enjoy high-end Japanese cuisine here), a bathing hot spring, and a large outdoor hot spring with a rock shape (usually only seen on travel programs) ), there are small indoor hot springs for footbaths (I heard that only three of them have this facility), and there are two other hot springs in the public area outside, but each household has a private time reservation and is unique. The hotel also specially matched Chinese-speaking waiters, and the service was very good. This stay was the highlight of the trip!

CChuck ChuangI love the interior of this resort. The staff members are really friendly and helpful. I had little knowledge in selecting local onsen resort, so my initial expectation was not high. Much to my surprise, I love everything this hotel has had. Facility wise everything looks brand new. The room is spacious and comfy. The public bath and indoor onsen are big and clean. As for the meals, the presentations were good and they were delicious. I have no complaint about it. Keep up with the good work. Look forward to staying there again.

GGuest UserBest stay! Kurokawa onsen itself was amazing but this stay made it better. I’m vegan and gluten free. With short notice both dinner and breakfast was arranged just like regular Kaiseki style. They were beautiful and delicious. Owner was kind and helpful. Stuff was wonderful. Hot spring was nice both indoor and outdoor. I was sad to leave knowing probably this was the best stay during our trip. Highly recommended!

GGuest UserWe are a couple from Australia and I only speak a little Japanese. This was a truly AMAZING experience! The staff were so kind and friendly, giving us assistance was no issue for them. The location is stunning, the private onsen was glorious and the dinners and breakfasts were bigger than we could possibly eat (and we love our food). The price point for this experience was so good - fantastic value for money. I would recommend this to anyone who wants a little adventure in the heart of countryside Japan. If you get the chance to also visit Minamiaso (they will take you there at no extra charge) for the day, grab some e-bikes and have a ride around- take in the beautiful scenery and wonderful food options.

JJackieXThe hot spring hotel in Kurogawa was not booked, and Trip.com chose a holiday house in the nearby Tibetan hot spring. Arrive before 6 o'clock, otherwise the staff will get off work. The house is very old, the name is ”Mei”, and the other house is a very new one and should be much more comfortable. The kitchen is fully equipped; The indoor hot spring is very hot, you have to try the temperature before entering the water. The towels are small and you have to bring your own bath towels.

DDChan viajandoRoom was comfortable and hotel had nice common spaces. Sink design a little bit tight. I chose a room with a mountain view but it was severely limited. As I was only staying one night, I didn't bother too much about it. You literally drive through a forest to get to the place. Just follow the kanji signs of in doubt.

GGuest UserThe room was spacious. It was my first time staying in a dome-shaped room, and it was very comfortable. The buffet had a lot to choose from, so I was able to eat healthy food. There were a lot of people, so we had to wait a little, but it wasn't a problem. The surrounding facilities were also well-equipped, so we were able to use the various relaxation spaces. I'd like to go again.

We arrived on a rainy day with our bicycles and were so happy about the cozy tiny wooden house and a warm shower. We had an amazing view of the mountains and the shrine and it was even possible to make a campfire infront of the little house. It is a magical place. Also there are many cute and friendly cats. We would defenetly visit again!
