"The Laocheng'en Courtyard Homestay is located within Datong Ancient City and is accessible by car. Parking is easy to find within the alleyways, especially during the off-season. The homestay features a cozy courtyard and living room, and the rooms are tidy. We booked a twin room, which wasn't huge, but the bathroom was very spacious. The main draw for us was the excellent wet/dry separation in the bathroom. There's no elevator, though.
The breakfast was well-prepared and satisfying. The staff were all very friendly; on our first day, they even provided tricycles for a spin around the ancient city!
Overall, it was a great stay."

The room features a super-sized tatami area with a special mattress over three meters wide. Our child can roll around freely while sleeping, and we adults don't have to worry about them falling off the bed at all. We finally got a full night's sleep!

The hotel's public area on the first floor is an absolute paradise for children! It not only has bookshelves, climbing frames, and a trampoline, but it's also very close to the front desk. When the staff aren't busy, they'll even proactively play with the kids, allowing parents to relax on the nearby lounge sofas, enjoy a coffee, or scroll through their phones. It truly delivers a âhands-freeâ experience.

We stayed in a first-floor room, and just outside the window was a small green park. The afternoon sun filtering through the tree shadows into the room created an amazing atmosphere. The room is very spacious, and the separate wet and dry areas in the bathroom are incredibly convenient.
We stayed here for three days, and the whole family was super happy and comfortable! It's definitely our top choice when visiting Datong, and we can't wait to go back!"

"The hotel service staff is just amazing from the front desk , waitress at the breakfast restaurants and also security staff. They really make you feel welcome. Rooms are not new but still maintained well. They could do better if they replace the carpet with a flooring that can be more easily cleaned.
The location is very good. The well known Sunji Bao restaurant is just opposite and you can take public bus to tourist sites just outside the hotel.
The buffet breast is just awesome. Some reviews say that they are just ok, but the reality is not like that. Have attached some photos to show the buffet spread."

"Absolutely fantastic! Datong during the off-season is unbeatable. The hotel was excellent, and the breakfast was superb. Plus, the Fengxi Pavilion on the first floor has a wonderful ambiance, and the food is delicious with generous portions. This trip to Datong was truly enjoyable, and the hotel experience played a big part in that. Also, the housekeeping was great; our room was always spotless when we returned after a day out, and amenities were promptly replenished! I can't quite remember if it was 'Jinfeng' or 'Jinhua'."

"If I were to rate the room alone, this guesthouse exceeded my expectations. Even though I booked a special offer room in the basement, there were absolutely no issues with ventilation or natural light. On the contrary, on a warm winter day, bathed in the soft glow of the lights, it felt like my own cozy little haven. If I visit again, I'd still choose this place. (The lady at the front desk was beautiful and kind-hearted, always willing to help and answered every question with a smile, which truly warmed my heart.)
Now for the downsides: breakfast was served about a 10-minute walk from the guesthouse, which isn't a huge deal. However, the breakfast service was a world apart from the guesthouse's excellent service. The staff didn't even lift their heads when we entered or left, completely engrossed in their TV show. And they didn't provide Wi-Fi, which I consider a very basic service, right? Also, could you please avoid serving rotten fruit to guests? The breakfast quality was more about presentation than substance; it looked good for photos, but the taste left much to be desired."

"If you're traveling to Datong, book this hotel without hesitation! The Totoro Spirit themed hotel truly exceeded my expectations. First off, the cleanliness was impeccable; the bedding was soft and odorless, and the bathroom had a separate wet/dry area with a bathtub â perfect for a relaxing soak. Secondly, the theme atmosphere was fantastic, with Totoro decorations everywhere, making for great photos and really awakening my inner child. The front desk service was thoughtful and attentive; they answered all my questions and even proactively recommended local food and sightseeing routes. The free luggage storage was incredibly practical. The location is excellent, within walking distance to popular attractions, and the value for money is outstanding. I've already recommended it to friends, and I'll definitely choose this place again next time I visit!"

"Located on the east side of the Old City, we booked a room with an Old City view, which was stunning. We happened to catch the Datong drone show, which was clearly visible from the room.
The room was large and spacious. I contacted housekeeping to get a new latex pillow, which was very comfortable. The bathroom was all Hansgrohe, and the shower was very comfortable. The room lighting controls were also very convenient.
The breakfast wasn't particularly amazing, but it was well-rounded, with Chinese, Western, and noodle stalls, and was generally average.
Parking was free and very convenient, making it very driver-friendly, a big plus.
There are many restaurants on the street downstairs, making dining very convenient."

"As a luxury hotel enthusiast, I'm absolutely blown away by this randomly chosen B&B â I really nailed it, haha! This is hands down the best B&B in Datong Ancient City! The location is absolutely fantastic, within walking distance to Huayan Temple and Gulou East Street, and you step right out onto bluestone paths and under red lanterns. Hygiene is top-notch, the bedding is soft, and it's well soundproofed. The housekeeper sent a super detailed guide in advance, covering everything from dining to accommodation and transportation, and even offered free pick-up and drop-off from the station. The traditional courtyard design is charming and full of Zen, and both the rooms and public areas are wonderfully designed â it's so comfortable you won't want to leave. For just over 500 RMB, what more could you ask for? If you're coming to Datong, just book this place without hesitation! Choosing to visit Datong during the off-season was perfect: amazing weather, uncrowded attractions, tons of great food, and this fantastic B&B. I absolutely love Datong!"

GGuest UserI canât stop raving about this inn. It is a B&B style three stories tall inn located inside the Datong Ancient City. Complimentary shuttle service between the airport or railway station made it really convenient for out of town travelers. The guest room was clean and equipped with modern facilities like automatic toilets, coded entry, projection screens, etc. The inn is located near the north gate of the city amongst other accommodations. Within minutes of walking is access to the top of the city wall where bike rental is available to ride along the wall. The inn is very quiet at night. The inn is family operated and everyone was very hospitable. What sets this inn apart from other accommodations in the area is their dedication to service. The owner knew I was a tourist and new to the area, she offered to pick me up if I got lost wandering the ancient city. The breakfast came with my reservation. When the owner found out I had to depart before breakfast serving hours, she went above and beyond to prepare food and served me 30 minutes ahead of schedule. The food tasted amazing and came with abundant varieties and huge portions. It was definitely not part of the service to drop off at another venue, but the owner took me to my next accommodation 2km away. I truly appreciate everything this inn and its staff has done for me. I am so glad to have chosen to stay this beautiful little inn on my first night in Datong. I will definitely stay here again without a doubt on my next visit.

GGuest UserThis hotel combines the convenience of modern high tech with the spiritual beauty of traditional culture. The rooms themselves are constructed around courtyards that give a sense of what life might have been like in Datong many centuries ago. In the lobby and in the rooms, murals decorate the walls with elegant designs of birds or flowers. The cabinets, bench, and floors made of wood and the countertops made of marble work together well and draw on design choices that are classicly, universally appealing. At the same time, the entire room is wired with the amenties of modernity. The toilet has a seat warmer and a light that turns on when you lift the lid so that you can find it in the middle of the night. Similarly, there seem to be motion-sensitive lights throughout the room that light up when you walk in the middle of the night so that you can find your way around. The water in the shower and the bathtub is able to get very hot (which I love!) and has high pressure. There is also a top-of-the-line hair dryer. It's the perfect blend of high tech and traditional amenities! If I have one complaint it's that the room was so hot that I had to open my window to let in the freezing air, and still the room was hot! That shows how effective the heating system is!
The serivce at the hotel is also extraordinary! All the members of hotel reception are very friendly. And they send someone to your room shortly after you settle in to give you a platter of fruit, which was fresh and seasonal and artistically chosen it seems. They also have 24 hours service in case you need anything. My friend went into the lobby early in the morning shouting about coffee, and the staff came out quickly to make him a cup.
The hotel is also very clean. The blankets, the pillows, and the sheets are as white as snow. The floors are free of dust and dirt and smudges. Everything in the shower and toilet room was scrubbed clean too. And the shower drains smoothly without pooling any water, showing how well it is maintained.
Finally, the location is very convenient. You can see that for yourself by just looking at the map. But I would like to add that just outside the gate of the hotel, you can see the Prince's palace, which is beautifully lit at night. What's more, my favorite restaurant in downtown Datong (I think the restaurant is translated as BeiWei Family Garden or something like that) is less than 5 minutes walking from the gate. There are also multiple shops for buying vinegar or wine or shaji snacks. In less than 10 minutes, you can also walk to all the major commercial streets. I love the location of this hotel!

GGuest UserWe took a 23-day trip through China, staying in 9 different hotels. Without hesitation, I can say that our stay at Floral stood out in many ways. First, the hotel's structure is very beautiful and has been renovated while staying true to the traditional style of the region. The hotel room itself was probably the most beautiful we had seen on our entire trip: spacious, with windows that actually opened, good air conditioning, and modern decor and furniture without being over the top. Second, the hotel's location is within the boundaries of the city wall and is part of the old town, so beautiful to walk around and see the traditional houses - many of them renovated according to the traditional style. And third and most importantly, the kindness of the people who work at the hotel. I have never felt so welcome anywhere on holiday as at this place. Unfortunately, I arrived with health problems and needed antibiotics - equivalents of the ones I had brought from Europe. I asked the reception where I could find the closest pharmacy, but rather than guiding me there, Xiao Liu, the lady at the reception, figured out for me which antibiotic would be the right one and got it for me. The same when we needed a suitcase, rather than sending me to the shop she inquired about our desired suitcase and in one hour it was there. Drinks are complementary at any time of the day, and the breakfast (Chinese and international - sandwiches) was generous and unlimited. When we were running late coming back from the grottoes and needed to catch a train, Xiao Liu helped us out by bringing us all our suitcases directly to the train station. We will never forget all these acts of kindness and we are still grateful to her and the entire hotel staff for making us feel so much at home. Datong will stay in our minds and hearts forever thanks to the people of the Floral hotel. Datong is special enough for all the incredible cultural sights you can visit - but our stay there will never be forgotten thanks to the beauty of the Floral Hotel and its amazing people. THANK YOU SO MUCH!!!!

Centrally located, the building is magnificent and our room was a dream (we were also upgraded and our room was on two levels with a nice balcony and a really spacious living area).
Staff was really helpful and kind - they also hired a driver for us since we wanted to visit Hanging Monastery directly from the high speed station, before even checking in at the hotel: they took care perfectly of our necessity and the organisation was flawless.
I really recommend this place to anybody! you will not regret it!!!

GGuest UserThe location is superb, right within the ancient city. For those driving, parking is available at the Nine Dragon Wall parking lot, just a 100-meter walk away. Despite being in a tourist area, it offers a peaceful escape from the hustle and bustle. Guandi Temple is also conveniently located nearby. The service was excellent, and breakfast was quite good too. Both the owner and the staff were incredibly warm and welcoming. Although the May Day holiday prices were significantly higher than usual, the convenience made it completely worthwhile. Highly recommended!

Great location, in the heart of the historic part of the city.. Easy to get from the southern Railway station by bus number 61. Comfortable nice room, very clean. The room has a kettle, cups, and tea bags. Girl from reception was so helpful. She has given a lot recomendation for visit attractions of Datun and has helped to find a transfer to Xuankong Si Monastery.

Location:
- Nestled a quieter part of the ancient city, that provided a peaceful retreat after each day of exploring.
- 10 minutes to some of the attractions of the old town
- 15-20 minute walk to the popular restaurants and more attractions
- 30 minute walk to Huayan Temple and its nearby street markets.
I'm always happy to walk but if needed, I could always use DiDi to take me around.
Falling asleep without street noise is something I like. There is a bit of building work going nearby, which is happening all over Datong Ancient City, but nothing too major.
Nearby is the Ancient City's wall, but walk past that and you can see the locals dance in the morning in the park or walk along the canal/moat in the evening.
Room:
The room was surprisingly spacious, offering plenty of room to spread out and relax, a welcome change from cramped city accommodations. The staircase is a bit narrow, so those with lots of big luggage might struggle (no lift)
Importantly, it was very clean and well equipped. I especially liked the Chinese tea ceremony set!
Service:
- Despite a noticeable language barrier, everyone went above and beyond with smiles, helpful gestures, and clear efforts to communicate.
- Especially the manager, who told me about local food to try, things to do and asked if I needed anything. She noticed that I was bringing back leftovers from the restaurant, and bottled drinks from the shops, and said I could use the fridge.
- I can't speak Chinese so when the delivery driver came to drop off my order, the staff will take it from the reception and bring it to me.
- Unfortunately, breakfast isn't available here
- Drinking water topped up. Humidifier and mosquito repellent were provided when needed.
I will not hesitate to book here again on my next visit and I highly recommend this hotel for anyone seeking comfort and genuine warmth in Datong!

AAnonymous UserBecause I like big rooms, I booked a family room, and there are extra discounts for staying for three days. The hotel is on the 20th-21st floor of a building next to Datong Railway Station. Downstairs is the Aegean Shopping Park. The second underground floor is the hotel parking lot. You have to pay the parking fee in advance and the hotel will reimburse you later. The room decoration is simple, and towels, cups and other utensils are disposable. The sanitary conditions are good. The first room assigned was next to the laundry room and had a sewage odor, so we were quickly moved to another room. There is a Tonghe Hotel near the train station, which serves authentic Datong cuisine and is not expensive. There is a Fudao Noodle Restaurant on Wuding West Street, 300 meters away from the hotel, which serves breakfast at 6:30, and it tastes good.

GGuest UserIt was a very pleasant stay in the hotel. I stayed for three days and I enjoyed the comfortable and spacious room with its soft floor, the adjustable illumination and the goodies which I received daily as well as the breakfast buffet, which included a variety of Chinese food, salad, fruits, toast, cornflakes, little cakes and freshly made noodle soup.
