"Ive just left the Inn and on the train to the next destination. I wish I could stay longer as this was such a pleasant stay. The boss lady was so nice. I booked just a basic room but got upgraded to almost a studio flat with separate bedroom in the mezzanine and lounge downstairs. Everytime I come back from sightseeing, all hot tired, the boss lady gave me a bowl of delicious melons. It was sweet and juicy. The best melons I have had. The second time she also gave me bananas. It was so much needed. The hotel is in the perfect location. Thank you for a wonderful stay. 1. From Datongnan station there are buses 608 or 61 which takes you directly to Huayansi stop, less than 1min from the hotel. However, the hotel frontage is a jewelry shop, I didn't know so ended up walking up/down the street for 10mins before the boss lady realised and came out to tell me I have arrived. 2. If you want to go to Yungang Grottoes. From the same bus stop take bus 38, then change to bus 3 to get to the Grottoes. Journey time about an hour in total. And cost 4RMB (2RMB per bus). However, you have to set up some kind of public travel app from Wechat to get the QR code to pay the bus fare. I didn't know this. Fortunately, some nice people helped pay my fare, then another lovely girl helped set up the app enabling me to use the bus from then as when I arrived and took the bus from the train station to hotel Wechatpay didn't work. Fortunately the driver let me ride for free as I guess he realised Im foreign and don't have this app. Only when I took the bus to Yungang Grottoes, the girl told me I need to set up the travel app etc and helped me set it up. 3. The hotel is also right opposite to the Huayan temple. A beautiful ancient temple. Deffo can't be missed. "On this trip, after leaving my job, I've stayed in many places, but Datong was the most surprising city. It's full of historical sites, delicious food, and a vibrant, down-to-earth atmosphere. But what surprised me even more was the guesthouse I chose. I did extensive research and ultimately decided to stay within the ancient city, which turned out to be incredibly convenient for dining, lodging, and getting around. It was fantastic and perfectly suited me. Initially, I considered guesthouses in the Southeast District, but they were all new, and their styles were quite similar and unremarkable, much like guesthouses in other cities. So, I picked one with unique traditional Chinese characteristics, and it completely exceeded my expectations. The breakfast was exactly to my liking – nutritious and light. The room was warm and cozy, and the toiletry kit was amazing, with thoughtful items inside. Even though it's been in the ancient city for ten years, the decor and renovation show no sign of age; it's incredibly well-maintained. The housekeeper mentioned they had just upgraded all the rooms before my arrival, haha! 😄 This guesthouse truly helped my restless mind calm down. It felt like staying in a museum. The aunties and housekeepers working here told me stories about every single object and corner, which deeply moved me. This is what a guesthouse should be – unpretentious and full of stories. The biggest surprise this time was having the chance to meet the owner, a wonderful lady. She was so nice, I initially thought she was just another staff member; she had absolutely no airs. More importantly, her experiences and background are incredible – she does extreme sports and has even climbed Mount Everest! Talking with her made me feel so comfortable and helped me let go of a lot of things. Thank you for the encounter; it was truly destiny. This was the most unexpected gain from my trip to Datong, and I will definitely go back if I get the chance! It felt just like home, with no sense of unfamiliarity whatsoever."

"Our stay was perfection! We wouldn’t stay anywhere else! Perfectly located inside the old city of Datong, we walked everywhere and absolutely loved feeling in the center of it all! Beautiful room, super grand, clean, loads of space, very friendly owners, and 100% recommended with kids. The toilet was amazing, the shower water nicely hot, beds super comfy - we had a wonderful 2-night stay with our three children!"

"Very nice stay directly in the heart of the old City. You can easily take Bus 38 in front of the hotel to the Yugang Grottoes. The hotel itselfbis very roomy with big bathrooms and a inner courtyard. Everything was very clean and had a nice charme. The bed is very big but a little on the hard side. The shower was fairly good and they have a japanese toilet. The staff was very friendly and helpful."

"Very good hotel, right at the mainstreet. But there is no noise or whatsoever. Room was clean, very good breakfast: combination of European and Chinese. The staff was very friendly and we could check-in at arrival. Which was a few hours before check-in time. We got presents at checkout. I recommended this hotel!"

"The original budget room we booked that had no window had an overpowering and disgusting smell of cigarette smoke. I asked if we could move to a different budget room as I have a 4 year old child and this would not be healthy for her. The only offer I got was to upgrade my room. As I could not stay in that room with my child I had to upgrade. Some of the staff were friendly and some were very unpleasant. The location was great but the staff and the rooms could be much improved."

"Excellent value for money, spotlessly clean, and the staff provide great service. Breakfast is included, and the location offers very convenient transportation for exploring. In the evenings, it's lovely to stroll out to the square and enjoy the cool air. I wholeheartedly recommend Wutongge Hotel to anyone planning a trip to Datong."

"Hygienic: The hotel is very clean and the room has no smell. Environment: The yard outside is very large, and there is a sense of atmosphere at night. There are small animals in the yard. You can also see the flowers and plants outside from the windows on the first floor. Facilities: The facilities are very new and easy to use. The sink also has hot water 24 hours a day. Service: The hotel owner is very enthusiastic. It was very late when I arrived at the hotel, but the boss was still waiting for me at the door. He was very enthusiastic to help us check in. He told the boss that he was worried about the hot temperature of the room. The boss specially arranged the room on the first floor. I will bring friends to experience it next time~😁"
