"This is a wonderful place, beautiful decorations staff speaking English. The hostel is located in a beautiful area in Grape Town. They can book you on to a variety of different tours to make the most of Turpan. The hostel has a good mix of Chinese and foreign tourists to chat to. The hostel is clean and quiet. You can take bus K2 and then bus 208 from the train station and the a short walk to get to the hostel. They are pet friendly and have three lovely cats and two dogs."

"I originally didn't want to write this glowing review, fearing it would become too popular and I wouldn't be able to book a stay again. But after a few days, I felt I'd be doing myself a disservice not to. The hostel is right next to the bustling Liuxing Street in the city center. Step outside, and you're amidst vibrant streets and alleys where you can find baked buns,拌面 (banmian – mixed noodles), and hand-pulled rice dishes just a few steps away. It's also convenient for getting to the bus station and the airport. Yet, once you turn into the alley, it becomes wonderfully quiet. The old locust tree at the entrance is adorned with colorful wishing tags – red, yellow, blue – gently swaying in the breeze, as if whispering everyday stories for passersby. The front desk staff are incredibly responsive; messages are answered almost instantly. They patiently help you with directions and arranging shared rides, always enthusiastic and thoughtful without being intrusive – a comfortable balance. The rooms and beds are clean and tidy, changed for every guest, washed and sun-dried. The entire hostel is non-smoking, so the air is so fresh it makes you want to take a deep breath. Staying here feels secure, and you wake up refreshed. The facilities are complete, and the self-service kitchen is convenient and quick, with pots, pans, utensils, and seasonings available. You can store leftover fruit in the fridge and eat it the next day, which is both money-saving and comfortable. The cafe offers freshly ground, professionally made coffee that's delicious and not expensive; one cup can last you an entire afternoon. The reading room is elegant and quiet, with well-worn books that sometimes have pencil notes left by previous readers – you can easily lose track of time there. There's a strong international vibe, with backpackers from various countries chatting in the common area, a mix of English, French, and Spanish. You can join in or just smile and listen, and no one will find it strange. In the end, I did write this – a five-star review, truly recommended. I hope it becomes popular, yet I also fear it becoming too popular. But good things should be known by more people. Next time I come to Yining, I'll definitely stay here again."

"The room feels a bit dated, which is understandable given the hotel was built in 2016. The windows were a bit dirty. It's an okay stay for one night. It has a projector, which is nice for streaming content or playing music. The value for money isn't great; you could probably find better options at this price point. The laundry room is in the basement and wasn't very clean. As someone who isn't from mainland China, I was quite surprised to see people washing their shoes in the washing machine 😅. Service was decent though."

"I am confused how they got so many good reviews after staying here. First, they said offer they tickets to get into Grape Valley and it ended up no tickets are needed. Second, we went out for dinner, restaurants on the right side of the hotel, as the hotel suggested, are 3X more expensive than the normal price. Third, a worker at our hotel offered to drive us to a restaurant but we declined. Later, we found out that he was trying to take us to an overpriced restaurant with no customers. I guess he was looking for a commission from that restaurant. Fourth, we asked one lady in the touristy area, how far is the night market and she said 25 km, we checked on line it was only 7 km away. Even though the room itself was fine, I would advise against staying here or in Grape Valley altogether. Although a visit here for 1 or 2 hours is fine."

"The room wasn't huge, but it was well-equipped, and the cleanliness was decent. We arrived late, so we were given a room on the second floor, which was a bit noisy. The room wasn't a single level either; there were two steps, so it might be best to avoid it if you're traveling with elderly people or children. The hotel's security and front desk service were both quite good, very warm and patient. If you're looking to stay near Erjie or the Grand Bazaar in Hotan, this hotel's location is definitely a prime choice; it's only a two to three-minute walk across the road to the entrance of Erjie."

The facilities are complete, the hair dryer is Suifen high-speed, the bath water pressure is very high, there is a washing machine, the smart toilet seat is warm and automatic lid, the disposable toilet pad, the bedding is very comfortable, there are two kinds of soft and hard pillows, and the details are full. Needless to say, the picture is clean and tidy. The key point is to praise the boss uncle, it can be said that he is responsive! I want to get up early to see the morning fog boss drive to Shenxian Bay for free. Welcome fruit said that I want to eat watermelon. The boss directly cut half of the watermelon to let us eat. Breakfast is very convenient across the road, simple and warm, and thoughtful service. In addition, the location of the homestay is very good, take Line 1 in the transfer center, or walk a few hundred meters. The homestay is next to the old bridge, away from the noise of the main street, and the rest is very good. After the tourist group disperses in the morning and evening, it is especially pleasant to take a walk along the trail by the river to take pictures. Very suitable place to stay for two days! The first boss and homestay that let us leave!

Wow! What an amazing place to stay and how lucky we were to find it. By far the best place we stayed in China. Mrs. Li (the owner) was so genuinely nice and caring, and we felt like part of the family staying there. One of my favorite things in Kashgar was hanging out with her and her family in the evenings. She always invited us at night to hangout in the common area where she would make us tea and share her fresh and dried fruits with us. She was really good at using a translator app, so we were able to have a good conversation with her through that. She has a great little family. Her son speaks good English and was also very nice. She had a young daughter who also speaks English, but is more shy with it (though she will sing you a Taylor Swift song..she has a great voice). They have 3 cats and the youngest one, little tiger, is just the sweetest and the friendliest cat I have ever met. It was such a good and warm feeling to stay there. We definitely wish we could visit again. A home away from home. And we were treated so generously in more ways than we can write here. Mrs. Li asked us right away if there was anything she could help us with, without us having to ask, which we really appreciated, and she took the time to sit down with us to go over our plans. She let us store our luggage for 3 days and walked us out to help us get a taxi when we departed. While it was the family that made it simply amazing, some might also be interested in the following information. The location is great. On a quiet street. Close to the big mosque which is a good landmark to use to find the area. And of course close to the old city. It's also really close to the biggest supermarket we have found thus far in China (we have to admit it was nice to get a few ”luxuries” from home like cereal and hot chocolate). The guesthouse is cute and has a Central Asian feel. The shower works great and is hot. We were there in the winter, and the room has heat if you needed it. Mrs. Li was able to arrange a driver for us to go to Tashkorgun and the Karakorum Highway, which was super helpful. The place was nice and clean. Thank you so much Mrs. Li! You will be a highlight of our visit to China and will be remembered in our hearts forever. -Travis and Elisha (Colorado, USA) PS: when we get home I'm going to try to write up a bit about our trip on Tripadvisor because I couldn't find anything about Kashgar on trip advisor since covid, and some things have changed, so I thought it might be helpful for fellow travelers, so look for that.

Staying at Gui Lai Inn felt just like coming home. Last night, when I first arrived, I couldn't find the parking lot. The landlady personally came to pick me up and helped me park the car. She then enthusiastically introduced the attractions of the ancient city and gave me details on the city gate opening ceremony for the next day, including the time and location. Today, I was running late to check out, and the landlady kindly extended my check-out time until 2 PM, which really made me feel like family. Friends visiting Kashgar, Gui Lai Inn is definitely your top choice!

Service: For check in on trip, it says to call a day in advance. I tried this, but the person who answered couldn't speak English. It was not a problem, because I then messaged on the online chat. That was perfectly fine and they responded very quickly. I'd say if you don't speak Chinese, just message online. The front desk staff were super helpful when I was there, and quick to use a translator so we could communicate well. Amenities: I did some washing, laundry detergent cost ¥10 I think, and again the staff were very helpful, finding as many hangers as I needed to dry my clothes. Location: The environment was so peaceful, the lobby was a nice air-conditioned place to hang out. The outside grass area was so lovely, with little lavender and rose plants and chairs to sit outside. There is also a bar across the courtyard, and a coffee shop. The area is a bit far out of the city, but it is right near the metro, lots of local shops, and a mall with some big chain stores. Things to consider: I stayed in the single room attached to the women's dorm. It was so handy to have my own space for a very reasonable price. However, the single room itself does not have its own air-conditioning. The women's dorm does, so to cool the room down, I would just keep the door between open for a bit. Still, it was never as cold as the dorm room because it went up to 40°c outside when I was there, and I preferred to keep the door locked when I went out to keep my belongings safe. The single room does have a fan and a window, so you can get some airflow through there. Overall, it was fine, just be aware if you are travelling during the summer. (Also one suggestion I would have is to put a mirror in the room, so you can get ready in there). The only other issue was no soap for washing hands in the dorm bathroom, although there was shampoo and conditioner provided in the shower. Cat: The cat was so cute! 🐈

First and foremost, this hotel accepts foreigners. The hotel is quite ok but not great. I booked a no-window non-smoking room (don’t do it, go for room with window) because I thought there is more chance people still smoke in non-smoking rooms with windows. The first room they gave me, put the key card on and electricity didn’t work. Waited for them to check with no result so I was relocated to another room. It’s non-smoking but I can clearly smell the smoke. Took 2 days for the smoke smell to go away which is a pity. The room is small but enough for a solo like me. Each floor they built 4 lines of rooms, the 2 middle lines stay wall-to-wall to each other and are the ‘no-window’ rooms. I would definitely recommend you to choose the room with window, because it means you don’t share a lot of ‘walls’ to other room and have a window to open at least for circulation if room is smelly or if room is too hot. In my case, my room smells smoke, and the room heater system only allows 34-37 degree celsius which is crazy! Very hot if turned on so I had to turn it off the whole time I stay at the hotel. Even though it is winter time, the whole hotel is already on heater. Unable to adjust room temperature is annoying because it means no air circulation. There is a blowing machine (similar to a fan) in the room but it is not efficient quickly enough. The room feels extremely suffocating. I did really wish for a window. Also because the no-window rooms share 3 walls with other rooms (not counting the upper floor), it’s more bad-luck chances for weird noise. In my case, I had to endure one whole freaking night with 2 loud Uyghur couples who cannot hold themselves back from banging the freak out and making all kinds of terrible terrible noise. Seems like no soundproof for these walls.

We have been traveling for the past 3 weeks through Xinjiang. This resort is, without a doubt, the best accommodation we have stayed in, even exceeding other 4 or 5 diamonds rated establishments. What a gem! Right from the start, our experience with the hotel has been outstanding, beginning with the prompt and patient communication with the hotel staff prior to our arrival, who provided clear and helpful information on how to get there, contacts of drivers that could take us from the Altay train station to the village, and where we could apply for the border control permit. While on route, the hotel staff thoughtfully checked in on us to ensure that we have boarded the transport and are ok. Upon arrival at the village entrance, we were greeted by one of lovely sisters who ran the resort. She was like a ray of warm sunshine, greeting us with a big smile, instantly making us feel safe and welcomed. She was a lovely host who took good care of us during our stay. Our host kindly upgraded our room to a gorgeous hexagon detached starry sky room. It’s a spacious, tastefully furnished standalone log cabin that has a large queen bed and a double bed, a mahjong table, a massage chair, projector TV, voice control assistant, climate control and everything else one needs to have a luxurious stay. It even has a roof window that opens up for stars viewing at night! The log cabin sits in the midst of a lovely garden compound, with swings, hammocks, and a view of the distant a Kazakhstan mountain, inviting anyone to relax with a good book and a cup of tea. The resident cats, dogs and horses were adorable. The resort is located in the beautiful, peaceful and rustic village of Baihaba. We had a most restful and memorable stay and will definitely return to stay with the resort.

The Altay Shanyun Hotel was a hidden gem on our Northern Xinjiang trip! Many hotels in the area make it difficult to get a taxi, but this one offers a free shuttle to General Mountain, making travel hassle-free. The rooms are clean and spacious, and despite the large temperature difference between day and night, we stayed comfortably with a continuous supply of hot water for showering. The front desk staff were attentive and patiently answered all our questions. The hotel has plenty of parking, so no worries about finding a spot if you're driving. It's away from the noise, providing a quiet environment perfect for relaxation, whether you're skiing or just exploring Altay. It effectively solves various travel and parking problems, with practical and straightforward service. This hotel is definitely worth staying at when visiting Altay.

Good reviews! The location of the hotel is amazing. You can see the magnificent Pamir Plateau scenery of Tashkurgan County as soon as you go out. In the morning, when you open the window, the sun shines on the top of the continuous snow-capped mountains. The picture is so beautiful that it is suffocating. Here, you can enjoy the unique natural scenery of Tashkurgan County while lying in bed. This experience is great!

Stayed in a dorm room then moved to a private once one became available. Both rooms were clean and comfortable, I especially liked the softness of the beds and the strength of the AC, as it was summer when we stayed. The hosts were always very helpful and their cat is adorable. The public spaces were also cozy and had amazing views of the city below. It was easy to bring our bicycles up the elevator and store them in the hostel.

A friend recommended this place, and the room was just as clean and cozy as in the pictures. This was the best trip I've taken on business. The boss was very nice and generous. He even helped me send something by courier if I forgot to take it. The location and environment are great, it's worth going again!
