Ashley Hotel

Cambridge City Center
The hotel is small and exquisite. The location is excellent. It is a 15-minute walk from Cambridge University and a 10-minute walk from Cam River. There are supermarkets, bars and local specialty restaurants around. The service attitude is warm and the breakfast is very delicious.
Shelford Lodge

Never ever stay in this horror show, I do not normally swear or leave reviews and I'm almost lost for words to describe this place, I would call it a hovel but that would be a huge improvement, I can't believe the state of it, I can't believe they have not been closed down, every inch of this place is disgusting and falling apart and full of damp and mold. On arrival the first thing that struck me was the state of the car park which is muddy and full of holes, abandoned car at the bottom under a tarpaulin. When I reached the so called ”reception” my key was laying on a table with my name scrawled on a sheet of paper, no sign of anybody around so I found my own way to the room. The hallway was dark and dilapidated with signs of damp and mold and a funny smell. When I found my room and opened it I couldn't believe my eyes I have never seen anything like this and the smell of sweat, mold and damp was overwhelming. Paper was peeling off the walls and the plaster was crumbling, every inch of this place was disgusting and covered in thick dust, everywhere you looked was grim, I can't go through how bad everything was because it was all so terrible. If you had nowhere else to go and had to spend the night on the street let me tell you that that would be better than this and I am not exaggerating, I ”slept” fully clothed on top of the horrific bed with my own personal towel wrapped around the pillow and couldn't wait to get out of there, please please just do not stay here ever.
West Court - Cambridge - Campus Accommodation
4.8/580 Reviews
Cambridge City Center
West Court is a recent expansion of Jesus College, combining some old buildings of Wesley Hall (rooms with shared bathrooms) with new ensuite rooms (with lift) built above Frankopan Hall. It effectively separates the hotel business of the college from the rest, and guests eat in a separate modern room in West Court, rather than in the historic Hall. It's thus not as atmospheric a stay as other colleges. However the guest access card gives the free run of the college and I enjoyed visiting the gardens and the chapel in the evening. I enjoyed my stay in one of the older bedrooms, well converted with a nice courtyard view. There were 3 bathrooms for 6 bedrooms, just across a thickly carpeted hall. The room had a good work desk, but was definitely on the small side for £95 (hence 4 stars rather than 5). There was an excellent choice at breakfast, but given that this is specifically for hotel guests, 9 am is an early closing time. There is also a cafe and student bar in the same court, and plenty of places to sit and read. This is a fantastic location, friendly staff, and high quality furnishings and fittings. Warmly recommended.
The Rose and Crown Hotel
3.2/564 Reviews
Visited my birth town Wisbech for the Rock Festival, but since my parents had a full house, we decided to leave our kids with them, and stay at the historic Rose and Crown, about which we've read so much in Andy Ketley's book series on local pubs. The economic state of Wisbech hasn't been kind to the Rose and Crown (or the town in general), and the (hopefully temporary) loss of restaurant and bar at the Rose and Crown is very sad. That said, our brief stay was fine. It was, in effect, no frills, and what you get is similar to a stay in a Travelodge, but in a far-more-interesting building. Mario, the gentleman on the desk, was lovely. We will likely stay again.
Cross Keys Hotel Chatteris
4.2/544 Reviews
I have stayed here 3 times in the last couple of weeks for work puposes and i have to say it is one of the best experiences in a very long time. From entry to exit, i have found the staff, the owners and the regulars all extremely knowledgable and took an instant liking to the style and flair of the establishment. The rooms have been spacious, extremely clean and everyone has bent over backwards to help. In a similar fashion, the food has been some of the best i have eaten and put it all together in an incredible setting and that is 'The Cross Keys'. Simply perfect, traditional and a true english treasure. Prices for rooms and meals are more than reasonable, in fact excellent value for money. I felt very safe, the wi-fi was excellent and the use of technology in the background is incredibly subtle - cctv etc, secure card transactions. Overall, a big thank you to the owners David and Rebecca for doing a splendid job not only for raising the standards but giving everyone a chance to contribute to some great bar conversations.
Newark Hotel Peterborough
3.7/520 Reviews
The Newark is a budget hotel about a mile from Peterborough city centre, so it may not be ideal for tourists (it's popular with forwarders, construction workers and such). But you can easily reach it by bus (lines 5, 5a) from the centre. The hotel was still being refurbished when I arrived, and my en-suite double was certainly modern and clean. The bathroom facilities I found to be excellent, except there was no rag for the towels to dry, and the bathroom door didn't have a cylinder (yet?). The shower was big (no curtain or door though), and the water pressure adequate (not a given in budget hotels). The bed was comfy, and there was enough storage for my clothes and stuff. A 32” flat-screen Tv was provided, with a remote. Free Wifi was available, too. I really wish they would have provided a toilet brush though! Early check-in went smoothly (direct email contact with the hotel was excellent), don't be put off by the gloomy-looking reception area. There's a very basically furnished garden to the back where you can hang out. The room service was a bit spotty, but I really didn't need it every day anyway. ;)

The Castle Bar Room Only

Cambridge City Center
The hotel is mainly a bar, there is no reception staff at 11 am (we check out the deposit depends on a cleaner who can't speak English), the room conditions will be there, the public parking lot is 500 meters and very expensive.
