"Check-in is via advance registration. There's a cafe on the ground floor with delicious burgers. We arrived early. They kindly agreed to store our luggage until check-in, so we went for a walk without any luggage. It's quite noisy before closing, but it's not a distraction, but you need to be prepared. But after closing, it's quiet. We were lucky with our neighbors. The hostel has three rooms. The common area is equipped with a water cooler with sugar and cream for coffee, a microwave, and a board for booking an onsen. The onsen is small but lovely. :) The cafe staff will help with check-in if needed. They are very polite and pleasant. Burgers can be ordered to your room. The room itself is very atmospheric, Japanese-style. It was chilly, but the room had an air purifier, an air conditioner with a heating function, and a separate heater, for which we were especially grateful. The bedding is nice and comfortable. The room was quite dusty in some places, but it didn't bother us personally. However, you need to be prepared that this is not a luxury hotel, but a very atmospheric place with its own vibe and energy."

"Cómodo hostel a poca distancia de la Estación de Gora. Cálido ambiente. Con muchas áreas comunes para distintos gustos y necesidades. El hostel en general estaba limpio. Pero la habitación tenía mal olor. Si bien, el hostel estaba bien para la categoría de lo que es, resultó caro; es decir, no tiene buena relación calidad precio para la zona (por el mismo o menos valor, se consigue mejor nivel de alojamiento, con onsen (hot springs) y spa en ellos"

"If you're particular about dust on windowsills and walls, or the hygiene of bedding (excluding the covers), you might want to reconsider booking. While the duvet cover was clean, it's just a single cover, so as you toss and turn in your sleep, your body inevitably touches the duvet itself. However, considering the insane accommodation prices in Hakone, this place is incredibly, truly cheap! The location requires taking a bus to get anywhere, but the bus stop is close by. Be warned, Japanese rural bus schedules are a real headache! Make sure to check the bus times carefully for both your inbound and outbound journeys. Plan your day by checking the timetable for each bus route, otherwise, you could easily waste an hour or two. The staff are incredibly friendly. I met different staff members upon arrival, during my stay, and at check-out, and they were all genuinely super friendly. In short: Would I book here again if I revisited Hakone? Yes!"

"What an amazing guest house with beautiful interior design! This was the best stay I’ve had in Japan so far. The staff are super kind and welcoming. The atmosphere is zen and social. I loved having dinner there (you need to reserve in advance as spots are limited). It was delicious and a wonderful experience to wear yukatas as a group. A big thank you to Nana, Kira and Fuko :)) Another great advantage is the location is excellent, right by the Hakone open air museum (best museum I’ve ever been to) and near a Lawson and 7/11. There’s also a bus stop right there and the closest train station is only a few min away by foot and Gora station is about a 15 min walk. I think the Hakone free pass is also worth doing for 2-3 days because the value and convenience is very good. One morning, I had breakfast in the caravan parked outside the guesthouse, run by Tom, and that was practical and yummy. I didn’t have time to check this out, but there’s the Hakone foot spa nearby that’s supposed to have nice views and there’s also the Beer Bar by Gora Brewery that looks nice for dinner or lunch. Kowakidani Horaien Gardens and Chisuji Falls are also nearby (20 min walk). Overall, I highly recommend this place and would gladly have stayed longer and hope to come back one day! Arigato gozaimasuuuu 😃"

"Location, cleanliness is perfect. The bath of the rental is a little narrow, and the chair is now one for the sauna. It is quite expensive."

"Really enjoyed my stay at Root Hakone. I reached a little late (around 7:30-8pm) and the walk to the hostel was a little dark (roads on Hakone aren’t that well-lit at night due to it being a forested area). So recommend to reach earlier if you’re not that comfortable with walking in the dark alone! The accommodations were comfortable, single futon bed with lockable room doors, separated by a divider. Was initially expecting just a cubbie with a curtain so this was a pleasant surprise. There’s also a direct bus nearby to Togendai Station if you’re keen to take the sightseeing cruise and ropeway. The drinks made by the staff were also wonderful, enjoyed a cassis soda, cassis oolong and fuzzy navel at a great price. The management also gave a guide of nearby recommended places to travellers too (had the best coffee at Amaze Coffee, recommendation of the staff)! Overall would come back to stay again if I’m ever back in Hakone. A downside is perhaps the lack of availability of food options at night and no near konbini so be sure to grab some supplies at the station prior to heading over."

"This hostel in the hot spring town is incredibly cost-effective. It took some getting used to on the first day, but we found it quite nice after a while. We stayed several nights and had many European and American guests, including some families and a South American couple. They probably preferred the hostel's atmosphere. You can buy food at the Lawson convenience store in town and store it in the fridge, then have breakfast in the communal kitchen. Since the shops on the street stay open quite late in the morning, it's very convenient, affordable, and quiet."

"It is much more convenient to stay in the mountains when visiting Hakone, because there are so many attractions that one day is really not enough. The B&B is at Sengoroumae Station of the bus, and it is very convenient to go to Togendai Station to take the cable car and the pirate ship. There is a whole family nearby, the owner The attitude of this hotel is very good, and the hot spring experience is great. There are indoor and outdoor hot springs, and you can also book a nearby restaurant. It is very close to the forest of sculptures and the nearby hillside with a large reed."
