"The most honest review you’ll read on Beyond Kata.
I booked Beyond Kata after weeks of research, swayed by its beachside location, high price (the highest in the area), and glowing reviews. I thought, why not treat myself to the “best”? Big mistake.
👉 If you’re still deciding, book another resort now. There are stunning properties with sea views nearby that cost less than a premium room here.
The welcome at reception was warm, and while check-in was slow, it was smooth. The property is maintained, but definitely dated. For the price, it falls short of expectations, especially if you’re used to Asian standards of premium hospitality. This hotel clearly caters more to Western tourists, for whom “expensive” is just mid-budget.
We booked a premier room and requested to be moved just a few rooms up for a partial sea view, something we paid for, and they refused, despite the hotel not being fully booked. Small gestures like this make guests feel valued. Sadly, not here.
The staff were polite but not proactive. At the poolside bar, I asked for a lighter and was flatly told they had none, not even a matchbox. No effort to help, which felt disappointing.
And then, the real letdown: the beach. Crowded, noisy, dirty. Plastic bags, fishing nets, and rope floated in the water. My heart sank thinking of how much we’d paid to sit by a polluted sea. The hotel’s photos of sunbeds on the beach are misleading, those belong to local vendors, not the hotel. We didn’t even bother swimming after the first day.
Outside the hotel, the main street is lively with plenty of restaurants, bars, and even a night market that caters to most food preferences, Thai, Indian, Italian, you name it. But be warned: everything right outside the hotel is priced up for tourists staying in “fancy” resorts. Walk just a little further down the road or off the main strip, and you’ll find authentic, much better-value food and drink. This is worth knowing if you don’t want to overspend every meal.
In hindsight, if we’d stayed at Chanalai Garden Resort, Andaman Cannacia, or Orchidea Resort, we’d have enjoyed gorgeous hilltop views of the beach, quieter pools, and better value overall.
Final verdict:
- For Asian travelers expecting premium hospitality at a premium price - avoid.
- For anyone else, paying extra just to be near a crowded, polluted beach simply isn’t worth it.
✅ The only redeeming factor: the beds and rooms were genuinely lovely.
TL;DR: Overpriced, dated, staff not proactive, polluted beach, tourist-trap dining nearby. Better-value resorts with views and pools exist just up the hill."
