"☀️Very good location & very international - a great stay in Shanghai☀️ 💚PROS + excellent location, close to nanjing road & very well connected by subway + rooms are kept clean & have lockers + a lot of showers & toilets, which are cleaned at least 4 times a day + great common rooms, with a bar, a big tv and lots of place to relax & socialize + a small gym attached & telephonerooms for more private calls ❤️🩹CONS - you have to make your bed yourself & you don’t get a towel - the sinks are all in a straight line & have no space to put your things - men & women are all spread over 2 floors - you can hear what people are doing in the hall & sometimes even other rooms, as the walls are too thin ⭐️even with these CONS in mind, i had a great stay & recommend this hostel. It has a very diverse crowd & offers enough for the price⭐️"

"Let me give an objective review of my experience: When I arrived on the street outside the hostel, I saw the name, but once inside, there were no signs indicating which floor the hostel was on. I had to check Trip.com to find out. There were some issues during check-in. The front desk staff seemed groggy, as if they hadn't slept well. I booked a 4-person dorm. Initially, I asked if the 6-8 person dorms also had no lower bunks. The front desk said the 6-person dorms still had lower bunks and asked if I wanted to switch, but couldn't refund the price difference. I suggested canceling my order and rebooking, but the front desk told me it was already confirmed and couldn't be refunded. But I hadn't even decided whether to switch, and you've already confirmed my check-in? Regardless, as a consumer, I have the right to choose. The front desk's handling was very unprofessional. During check-in, the first room card they gave me led to a room full of girls. I have to ask, if I got into a misunderstanding and faced public criticism because of this, would the establishment take responsibility? After that incident, I went back to the front desk. The second time they gave me a room card, the '2' in the last digit looked like a '1', causing me to try swiping into another door multiple times without success. I had to go back to the front desk to find out the last digit was indeed a '2'. It took quite a while to finally check in successfully. When I opened the door, I was stunned. I can confidently say this is the smallest room I've ever stayed in at any youth hostel. Forget about having space for luggage; there might not even be space for shoes. It seemed only one public toilet was usable, and it was a single stall. It could get very crowded. Although the only shower room worked fine, it had a somewhat unpleasant odor. I hope the establishment can improve the smell in the shower room. Other aspects were decent. There's a lounge area, vending machines, and a washer and dryer. I still recommend that the front desk staff who checked me in get some proper rest."

"Huge thanks to Melody and Suki at the front desk! My friends were visiting Shanghai, so I booked this place, and it was my first hostel experience – much better than I expected! The hot water system seems better than typical hotels; you won't run out after a long shower. The hairdryer is perfect for girls, with strong airflow. Plus, they even have hand soap, which is a fantastic little detail! All the girls staying here are super gentle, quiet, and don't disturb anyone. 🥹 There's absolutely no noise day or night; everyone uses their phones silently, and at night, people move carefully, queuing quietly for showers. They even offer occasional thoughtful tips, and the restrooms always smell fresh. It's great value for money and very close to the city center. I'd definitely consider staying here again next time I'm in Shanghai!"

The Huamin Youth Hostel (Shanghai Bund Branch) was recently renovated in 2024, making it a fantastic choice for those staying in Shanghai. "You pay for the location, which was great, but we were really let down by this hostel. The staff were kind. There are only paper towels, which feels like such a waste, because you are using a new one everyday, and they don’t dry you at all. My partner, when getting out of the shower, slipped from a step and fell, hurting his wrist. We are lucky it wasn’t worse! There are no signs as you get out of the bathroom to tell you to be careful, which is very dangerous, I have tried to add pictures so the hostel can fix this. There is a sign in the shower that says ‘slippery surface’, which I must mention, but as you turn to get out there is nothing but a marble step that is very tall. There could be a very serious injury if they do not put another sign somewhere. Our room was clean, and had a window which was good, but there is no soundproofing at all. We understand this is an expensive fix, but the hostel does not provide earplugs. A family were packing their bags in the reception at 1am, lots of shouting (and a baby crying), and we could hear everything, even after asking them to be a bit quieter. It was so hard to sleep, which is disappointing considering we paid for the queen room, not a dorm. This is tough to write, because it’s a good location and kind staff, but I do not recommend staying here."

"Facilities: The room has a private bathroom with a separate wet and dry area, a sofa, a small table, and a clothes rack. Toiletries are quite comprehensive. However, the lighting setup is not very reasonable; the desk area is extremely dark with no light. Cleanliness: I'd say it's just average. The towels often have holes, and a few times the bath towels had hair on them when unfolded... There were sticky, uncleaned stains on the table... Environment: Soundproofing is not good (actually, it's terrible). There's noise from children playing outside on the first floor, and people speaking loudly in the hallway and lobby. Footsteps on the stairs are also very heavy. Service: The front desk service is pretty good, and cleaning is timely. However, the cleaning staff starts cleaning and moving tables and chairs at seven or eight in the morning, which is incredibly noisy..."

"First off, the location is super easy to find. I stayed in an 8-bed male dorm, and everyone pretty much kept to themselves, which was great. The bathroom had hot water, and the sink on the left provided hot water too, which was a nice touch. The shower pressure was a bit weak, but it didn't really affect showering (having hot water was good enough, though stronger water flow would be a bonus). You change your own sheets, duvet cover, and pillowcase, which really shows how clean everything is. The air conditioning was strong, and they provide a locker. The auntie comes to clean every day, which is excellent! The front desk lady even recommended a great snack street!"

The entire floor is cleaned frequently, with no dust accumulation even in the stairwells and corners. The bathroom has a wet/dry separation and good ventilation, so there are no odors. Hot water is available 24/7. Both Xiao Jing and Xiao Nuo provided excellent service. They were always quick to respond via WeChat whenever I had a small issue during my travels, and immediately provided small items like paper, pens, and packing bags when I needed them. Their service was thoughtful and attentive.

The location is great, very close to the subway station, making it convenient to get to The Bund and Nanjing Road. There are also plenty of dining options nearby. The hostel itself is quite clean; both the common areas and bathrooms are regularly tidied, which gives you peace of mind. The front desk staff are very friendly and welcoming without being intrusive. The hostel has a good atmosphere; you can sit and chat or relax in the lobby, which is perfect for solo travelers. The bunk beds have curtains, offering decent privacy, and there are sockets and a small light by the bed – everything you need is there. For this price in Shanghai, it's really excellent value for money. I'd definitely consider staying here again on my next visit.

I specifically chose this hostel to experience the old Shikumen lane houses. It's tucked away deep in a bustling alley, and you have to navigate through winding old streets and traditional iron gates to get in. Stepping inside, you're immediately immersed in the vibrant atmosphere of old Shanghai, a delightful surprise for its tranquil location amidst the hustle and bustle. The renovated old house retains its vintage wooden windows and old floor tiles, and the courtyard is filled with greenery. I woke up to the aroma of breakfast stalls from the lane each morning, and in the evenings, I enjoyed the breeze in the courtyard, fully experiencing local life. The beds come with blackout curtains, individual reading lights, and charging ports. Storage lockers are complete, and the bedding is changed daily, fresh and odorless. The bathrooms are cleaned in sections, with 24-hour hot water. The public living area is spacious, with bookshelves, board games, a microwave, and a self-service washing machine – full of thoughtful details. The owner and staff are warm and genuine, proactively sharing local hidden gems for food and off-the-beaten-path routes, helping me avoid tourist traps. Shopping districts and the subway are within walking distance, and there are old-school pastry shops all around. The value for money is absolutely amazing. It's my top choice for solo travelers and students. I'll definitely stay here again next time I'm in Shanghai!

Let's start with the positives. The single room was quite good; though small, it was clean, and the bedding had no stains. The air conditioning worked great. For a solo traveler looking to save some money, it offers excellent value. The shared bathroom was reasonably clean, with all the essentials at the sink. Disposable toiletries were readily available upon request from the front desk, which was convenient. Now for the negatives. It was a bit noisy. Perhaps I'm a light sleeper, but the sounds of people walking in the hallway really kept me awake. Also, the door was translucent, and the green light from the safety exit sign in the hallway shone into the room all night, making it even harder to fall asleep. Additionally, eating is not allowed in the room and requires going to the common area (though this is more of an inconvenience than a true drawback).

The design of this small villa is quite unique, and the front desk lady was very enthusiastic and helped me with my luggage. The common area is quite spacious, and after chatting with a few people, I found that most of them were young women working in the area. My favorite spot was the third-floor terrace. I don't know what kind of flowers they were, but they smelled wonderful. Sitting there having a meal with the breeze blowing was so pleasant. This time I was traveling solo and stayed in a dorm bed. I asked the front desk and they mentioned they also have queen and twin rooms. Next time I come with friends, we can stay here! 🥹

The place was very clean, and the facilities seemed to have been renovated and were quite good. However, the hairdryer kept overheating. Booked this hotel last minute, cause my favorite hotel is closing down business this month and i wanted something nearer cause I’m well versed with the surrounding areas, 1: the first red flag is the reception, mail and deliveries are all piled up and falling off shelves, it’s so dirty and humid, it looks like a hoarder’s poach, they’re no waiting chairs, so you’ll stand while they process the guests that came before you until it’s your turn !! The receptionists are very nice and helpful . 2; no room housekeeping ( you’ll have to ask for someone to come take the rubbish and give you towels or change your bedding. 3: THE FILTH!!! The filth is on level 1000/100 the grime made it hard for me to shower with my eyes open, I’m not sure if the place has a manager and if they care about the the wellbeing of the clients , because from what i saw, the cleaners don’t even bother, the floor had food stains from i think when they just opened, the sink🤮 the bathroom ( that one corner gave me the hibbigibeis) the toilet seat was broken , everything in the bathroom was broken and dirty , then my charger fell in the space which is between the bathroom glass and the bed, got down to retrieve it and i decided it was best to just a get a new charger instead. The place if cleaned and cared for would be an amazing hotel apartment, it has great amenities , a washing machine a fridge and a drying rack if you upgrade to a bigger room, a kitchenette that would be great if you are interested in cooking and staying longer and it’ has an Aldi downstairs, a gym and lots of other great places surrounding it . I really hope the owners would read this and take it into consideration and carry out serious supervision or else their property will lose value, The hygiene of the hotel does not only ensure the health and wellness of the visitors who sleep in those walls but also keeps the property value up. Dirt And filth only brings it down and puts the health of others at risk . I really hope they change standards.
