"This is a very professional international youth hostel, mostly frequented by foreigners, so it's a great place to practice speaking English. The front desk staff, mostly young men and women, provide excellent service. During my stay here for a few days, I met friends from Turkey, France, Toronto (Canada), Manchester (UK), Chinese Americans, and more. Especially in the evenings, with music playing, drinks flowing, and lively conversations, the atmosphere was truly wonderful."

The Duoyuan Youth Hostel (Shanghai Bund) is an ideal spot for travelers wanting to discover the city. The Duoyuan Youth Hostel (Shanghai Bund) is an ideal choice for travelers who want to take in the sights and sounds of Shanghai. In addition, East Nanjing Road Metro Station is just a short walk away. Famous local attractions Lujiazui, Yu Garden and Xintiandi, can all be reached with a short walk. "Let me give an objective review of my experience: When I arrived on the street outside the hostel, I saw the name, but once inside, there were no signs indicating which floor the hostel was on. I had to check Trip.com to find out. There were some issues during check-in. The front desk staff seemed groggy, as if they hadn't slept well. I booked a 4-person dorm. Initially, I asked if the 6-8 person dorms also had no lower bunks. The front desk said the 6-person dorms still had lower bunks and asked if I wanted to switch, but couldn't refund the price difference. I suggested canceling my order and rebooking, but the front desk told me it was already confirmed and couldn't be refunded. But I hadn't even decided whether to switch, and you've already confirmed my check-in? Regardless, as a consumer, I have the right to choose. The front desk's handling was very unprofessional. During check-in, the first room card they gave me led to a room full of girls. I have to ask, if I got into a misunderstanding and faced public criticism because of this, would the establishment take responsibility? After that incident, I went back to the front desk. The second time they gave me a room card, the '2' in the last digit looked like a '1', causing me to try swiping into another door multiple times without success. I had to go back to the front desk to find out the last digit was indeed a '2'. It took quite a while to finally check in successfully. When I opened the door, I was stunned. I can confidently say this is the smallest room I've ever stayed in at any youth hostel. Forget about having space for luggage; there might not even be space for shoes. It seemed only one public toilet was usable, and it was a single stall. It could get very crowded. Although the only shower room worked fine, it had a somewhat unpleasant odor. I hope the establishment can improve the smell in the shower room. Other aspects were decent. There's a lounge area, vending machines, and a washer and dryer. I still recommend that the front desk staff who checked me in get some proper rest."

"I came to Shanghai for rehabilitation therapy for my lumbar disc herniation, and it was really hard to find a place with a good location and reasonable price. After a long search, I chose Hi House Homestay. Since it was my first time staying in a hostel, I was a bit worried, but my experience here exceeded all expectations. I called ahead to ask the customer service to reserve a lower bunk for me, and when I arrived, they even kindly upgraded my room type for free, which was such a pleasant surprise. My first stay at Hi House Homestay was absolutely fantastic! The customer service was incredibly friendly when I contacted them in advance, and they thoughtfully upgraded my room type for free, which was a wonderful surprise. The entire guesthouse has such a comfortable atmosphere, and all the guests are very considerate, moving around quietly. It was peaceful throughout, and my rest was completely undisturbed. The room was spotless, the layout was cozy and practical, and the amenities were all well-equipped. Breakfast was simple yet delicious, and I enjoyed it thoroughly. The location is also very convenient, making it easy to get around and explore. Whether it's the service, environment, or living atmosphere, everything is impeccable. I've already put it on my list for my next trip to Shanghai – highly recommended! The entire guesthouse has such a comfortable atmosphere, and the guests are all very considerate. Plus, you get to meet many new friends, and I even had the chance to brush up on my English, which I haven't used in over ten years, even if it was just single words and phrases! Whether in the rooms or common areas, everyone moves around quietly and respectfully. The room attendant kept everything very tidy, and the layout was cozy and practical. Most importantly, the location is very convenient. It's great to relax in your own little space and enjoy life in Shanghai, where every inch is precious. I've already listed it as my top choice for my next visit to Shanghai – highly recommended!"

"# Stayed in a hostel with weird roommates who clearly missed basic civic lessons in elementary school. The decor in the common areas on the 1st and 2nd floors is quite interesting. On the street level, there's a small outdoor garden, and a separate entrance for delivery drivers directly to the 2nd-floor staircase. The main entrance, however, leads to the front desk first, then an elevator. The second floor offers independent tables and chairs for two, large long tables for groups, and comfy bean bag chairs with small coffee tables. There's also a large-screen TV available. **Environment:** 1. **Convenient Transportation:** It's near Exit 6 of Cao Yang Road Station (Metro Line 3) and Exit 3 of Feng Qiao Station (Metro Line 11). I recommend using Feng Qiao Station as it's closer and you don't have to cross a major road. There are also several bus stops nearby. 2. **Easy to Find:** Located right by the road. 3. **Amenities:** There's a medium-sized supermarket at the intersection, making it very convenient for daily necessities. And of course, plenty of dining options! You can find Northeastern cuisine, local Shanghainese dishes, and a bit further, there are even community canteens for seniors and restaurants serving rice with stewed pork ribs soup. 4. **Room Features:** The four-person sunroom is very well-ventilated and airy. **Hygiene:** The cleanliness of the common areas was consistently good, just like my last stay, maintaining tidiness from morning till night. However, this time in the same four-person room, my roommates had extremely poor living habits and didn't adhere to the dorm rules we signed upon check-in. Roommate #3, a young guy, constantly ordered takeout and ate it in bed, then left the used disposable tableware and drink cups next to the trash can. Roommate #4, another young person who clearly lacked basic moral education, would throw used tissues from the upper bunk onto the floor in the common aisle below after using the toilet. They didn't forget to toss disposable gloves 🧤 along with them. They also placed their small personal suitcase right in front of the cabinet for suitcase #1, completely disregarding how others would access their lockers. Plus, they had a very bizarre habit of hanging socks on the curtain rod and wouldn't allow the curtains to be closed at night. After I closed them, they'd pull them open again. Seriously, aren't they worried about residents in the opposite building seeing them in their pajamas at night? **Facilities:** The bed and bedding in the room this time were excellent. However, the toilet seat was broken, and the drain was clogged. The water drained extremely slowly during showers, leaving my feet standing in water. And when my roommate showered, they left the entire common aisle in the room flooded. **Service:** As soon as I reported the drainage issue to the front desk via WeChat, a staff member quickly came with a plunger to clear it. That was excellent."

"This was my first time staying in a hostel, and it was a decent experience. The room was dry and comfortable, giving me a dorm-like feeling. However, perhaps due to it being a holiday, some people checked in very late. My room was near the communal washroom, and there was a lot of noise from people washing up late into the night, with loud and constant banging of doors. It's definitely not suitable for light sleepers. When I left, I noticed the washroom door on the first floor was much quieter when opening and closing. I wonder if there's an issue with the hinge on the second-floor washroom door. I hope the owner can get it fixed."

The Hidden Garden International Youth Hostel - Shanghai Oriental Pearl Lujiazui Branch provides a great place for travelers to relax after a busy day. The Hidden Garden International Youth Hostel - Shanghai Oriental Pearl Lujiazui Branch is an ideal choice for travelers who want to take in the sights and sounds of Shanghai. With Shanghai Railway Station just 10km away and Shanghai Hongqiao International Airport only 20km away, transportation is very convenient. Just a short walk from Yuanshen Road Metro Station, traveling to most city destinations is a breeze. Seeing Shanghai's sights from this hotel is easy with Yuanshen Sports Center, Shanghai World Financial Center Sightseeing Hall and Shanghai World Financial Center all close by. In their spare time, guests can explore the hotel's surroundings. According to our guests, this hotel provides a very high level of service. For guests traveling alone, this hotel is consistently one of the most popular choices.

"The room itself is decent, pretty standard for a hostel. The mattress is quite thick, and the locker with a combination lock has two shelves. Our 6-bed dorm had an private bathroom and toilet, but it was a bit small and felt cramped. The communal bathrooms and showers are on the second floor, laid out in a row of individual stalls. An auntie comes to clean daily. The front desk staff, Xiao Liu and Xiao Li, had great service. They upgraded my room when I checked in for the first time in the afternoon, and even handled a late-night check-in for a foreign guest smoothly in the middle of the night. The bedding, including sheets, duvet cover, and pillowcases, is up to hotel standards, but you have to make your own bed. The courtyard outside has a nice view. The only issue is that at the entrance of the alley where the hostel is located, near the subway station, there's a garbage sorting and recycling station. This means a lot of garbage trucks coming and going, and some unpleasant smells, which can be quite disruptive to people entering and exiting. The other end of the alley doesn't have this problem."

The surroundings retain a strong sense of urban memory and are rich in local life. It is conveniently close to Xizang North Road Station on Metro Line 8 and Zhongshan North Road Station on Line 1. Popular commercial hubs like Daning International Commercial Plaza and historical sites such as Zhabei Park are also nearby, allowing guests to effortlessly explore the city while soaking in the charm of the old quarters. Laundry and dryer facilities are available, ensuring cleanliness throughout your stay. The service even includes a detailed bed-making routine, where staff follow standardized procedures to ensure bedding is neat and tidy, reflecting thoughtful care in every detail.

"I took quite a few photos, hoping to provide more reference for future guests. First, let me state my conclusion: I think this place is really good, it actually exceeded my expectations! My first impression upon entering was great – the decor is quite new, and the common areas are very stylish, with a microwave and water dispenser. I was here for a concert, and the owner even provided merchandise and an '応援スクリーン' (support screen). The beds are made of solid wood, very sturdy. When climbing up/down or turning over, there's no creaking or wobbling, unlike other hostels with thin wooden planks. Although my room didn't have a window, there were no strange odors at all. The bathroom and toilet are in the public washing area outside, which is also a good setup; if I came back late, I wouldn't worry about disturbing others when showering or washing up, nor would others disturb me. The bedding was also very clean. The whole place just felt very comfortable to stay in. Plus, it's very close to Hongkou Football Stadium – a quick bike ride away – and also close to Shanghai Railway Station. Highly recommend! 👍🏻"

The Huamin Youth Hostel (Shanghai Bund Branch) is one of the newest hotels in Shanghai, having been renovated in 2024. With Shanghai Railway Station just 5km away and Shanghai Hongqiao International Airport only 16km away, transportation is very convenient. Transportation around the city is also convenient, with East Nanjing Road Metro Station within walking distance. With Huangpu River Cruise(Shiliupu Pier), Nanjing Road Pedestrian Street and The Starry Band Museum all within a short distance, there is no shortage of things to do in the area. When guests have some time on their hands they can make use of the onsite facilities. If you demand a high level of service, our guests have indicated that this hotel has excellent standards. For guests traveling alone, this hotel is consistently one of the most popular choices.

"I stayed here for one night during a layover to my next destination. Although there is a sign stating that smoking is not allowed, the smell of smoke was still very strong throughout the night. I would suggest improving this by installing better ventilation in both the room and the bathroom to help remove odors and reduce moisture. I also recommend installing smoke detectors that can sound an alarm if someone is smoking, as some guests do not seem to follow the no-smoking policy. Despite the issues mentioned above, I still found the cleanliness to be satisfactory. I did not experience any itchiness during my one-night stay, and there were no signs of bed bugs. However, there is no lift to access the third floor, so I would recommend bringing small luggage or traveling light if you plan to stay here."

Excellent
JJiudianshenghuomengxiangjiaThis is, without a doubt, the cleanest and best hostel I've stayed at in Shanghai. It's also great value for money. Firstly, the toilets and showers are incredibly clean, which I know is a big deal for many people. I stayed for two days and one night and never once saw them dirty or messy. The space is also quite large, and there's no unpleasant smell. Secondly, the rooms are spacious too. The front desk provides you with a packaged set of bedding (sheets, duvet cover, pillowcase) and slippers. While it's a bit of a hassle to put them on yourself, it's reassuring to know they're freshly laundered and changed for each guest, so no re-use issues. Thirdly, the location is fantastic, right near Tianzifang. There are plenty of amenities and interesting shops around. Plus, there are many international travelers, giving it a very global vibe. I'll definitely stay here again on my next visit.

MMarkjctsxsLocation: Very close to Gongwutai Theater and Asia Building, about a 15-minute walk or a 7-8 minute bike ride. Amenities: The room has a private bathroom and is quite spacious. The mattress is comfortable, but you need to make your own bed. There's only one power outlet, so bringing your own power strip would be convenient. A comfortable stay, especially suitable for theatergoers.

LLuanpaodeyouyuAfter a long day of traveling, checking in here instantly melted away my exhaustion. The entire place was meticulously cleaned, the bathroom was spotless and dry, and the bedding was soft. Each bunk had full privacy features, ensuring an undisturbed rest. The front desk staff, particularly 'Guoguo', was incredibly friendly, helpful, and reliable. The common lounge had a cozy, warm glow, and I enjoyed chatting with fellow travelers from all over, sharing interesting stories and even exploring local spots together. The owners were genuinely thoughtful and generous, freely sharing tips on local delicacies and hidden gems. This wasn't just a one-night stay; it was a wonderfully gentle encounter on my journey. Both the value for money and the overall experience were perfect. I wholeheartedly recommend it to solo travelers.

TtonytravelsmondoI am grateful for Xiao Duan and Xiaolin for the help they’ve provided me!! Great value hostel in a top location — a few honest tips for fellow travellers The location is absolutely spot-on — right in the heart of things, couldn't ask for better. The staff were brilliant: genuinely helpful and welcoming. They gave me a disposable towel and tissues free of charge, which normally costs ¥3 — a small gesture, but a kind one that made a difference. A few honest notes if you're coming from somewhere like Japan (as I was): manage your expectations on cleanliness. Japanese hostels spoil you — spotless rooms, no smells, the lot. China is different, and this place is no exception. The toilet had a bit of an odour, and the rooms could do with more regular ventilation. It's not a dealbreaker, but worth knowing. On the plus side: free drinking water to fill your bottle, paid laundry on-site, and that unbeatable central location. The rooms themselves are decent enough nothing flash, but perfectly fine for the price. Finding the place: Google Maps is patchy in China at best. I'd strongly recommend downloading Baidu Maps or Amap (高德地图) before you arrive — they're far more reliable here. If you do use Google Maps, cross-reference the address with the Chinese name 登巴客栈 (Dengba Hostel) to avoid ending up on the wrong side of town. Overall, a solid 4-star stay — perhaps I'm slightly biased coming straight from Japan, but for the price and location, it's a sound choice.

BBlackeyedsamuraiBooked this hotel last minute, cause my favorite hotel is closing down business this month and i wanted something nearer cause I’m well versed with the surrounding areas, 1: the first red flag is the reception, mail and deliveries are all piled up and falling off shelves, it’s so dirty and humid, it looks like a hoarder’s poach, they’re no waiting chairs, so you’ll stand while they process the guests that came before you until it’s your turn !! The receptionists are very nice and helpful . 2; no room housekeeping ( you’ll have to ask for someone to come take the rubbish and give you towels or change your bedding. 3: THE FILTH!!! The filth is on level 1000/100 the grime made it hard for me to shower with my eyes open, I’m not sure if the place has a manager and if they care about the the wellbeing of the clients , because from what i saw, the cleaners don’t even bother, the floor had food stains from i think when they just opened, the sink🤮 the bathroom ( that one corner gave me the hibbigibeis) the toilet seat was broken , everything in the bathroom was broken and dirty , then my charger fell in the space which is between the bathroom glass and the bed, got down to retrieve it and i decided it was best to just a get a new charger instead. The place if cleaned and cared for would be an amazing hotel apartment, it has great amenities , a washing machine a fridge and a drying rack if you upgrade to a bigger room, a kitchenette that would be great if you are interested in cooking and staying longer and it’ has an Aldi downstairs, a gym and lots of other great places surrounding it . I really hope the owners would read this and take it into consideration and carry out serious supervision or else their property will lose value, The hygiene of the hotel does not only ensure the health and wellness of the visitors who sleep in those walls but also keeps the property value up. Dirt And filth only brings it down and puts the health of others at risk . I really hope they change standards.
