"Beautiful location, disappointing stay The location of this guesthouse is excellent, right in the center of Dehang Miao Village, with a lovely view of the river that runs through the village. The village itself is very charming and picturesque, and the setting could not be better. Unfortunately, our experience with the accommodation was not as positive. Compared with other places where we stayed during our trip in China, the room was not particularly clean. There were hairs on the bathroom floor and dead insects, which may have entered through the window after cleaning, but they were still there when we arrived. Our room was on the top floor, where renovation work was apparently still ongoing. Water was dripping from the ceiling directly above one of the beds. The owners had placed adhesive tape around the ceiling light where the water was leaking, which looked quite unsafe and raised concerns about a possible electrical short circuit. The larger double bed had an extremely hard mattress, making it uncomfortable to sleep on. The air conditioning unit was positioned so that the airflow blew directly onto the bed. However, turning it off was not really an option because the room quickly became hot and humid. The owner was kind enough to pick us up and drive us back to the village entrance with his car, which we appreciated. We had also asked about breakfast for the following morning. We were initially told to wait until the next day because the owner’s wife was not available. The following morning she kindly offered to prepare breakfast for us, but unfortunately we had already planned to leave early. Communication was difficult because the only way to contact the property was by telephone. As we do not speak Chinese, we had to ask the receptionist at our previous hotel to call on our behalf. What disappointed us most was the complete lack of information provided about the village. Nobody explained what there was to see or do, nor did they provide any information about Miao culture, local traditions, or typical dishes. We discovered by chance that there was an afternoon performance taking place in the village, and we found the trail to the waterfall only after searching online ourselves. Despite the positive reviews, our stay did not meet expectations, and we would not choose this property again. On a positive note, we had an excellent meal at the restaurant in the main square, the one with the hanging corn cobs and fans outside. The two ladies working there were incredibly kind and welcoming, and the food was among the best we had during our visit."
