The views are absolutely stunning, and the rooms are very spacious. Although it's a bit of a distance from Takayama Station, there's a convenient free hotel shuttle bus operating every hour. Both the public baths on the 5th and 7th floors feature outdoor hot spring baths (rotenburo), and the male/female facilities switch daily. Additionally, every room is equipped with its own bathtub. Breakfast, served on the second floor, offers a wide variety of dishes. Highlights include the delicious Japanese breads, along with local specialties such as Hoba Miso, Hida Milk, and puddings. The hotel is also officially designated as a 5-star accommodation by the Japan Tourism Agency.
The hotel is not far from Takayama Station and also provides pick-up service. Takayama Old Town, Jinya and other attractions are within walking distance, which is very convenient. We stayed in a Western-style room on the side of Jinya. The room was clean and bright, with all the supplies, and the large bath was also very good. As for the food, since I sent an email to the hotel two weeks in advance to request that one of the guests remove fish from the meal, the hotel was considerate and the food service staff pointed out the changes made to the dishes when serving each dish, and the dishes that replaced the fish were not sloppy, which made me very satisfied. In addition, the service attitude of the staff is also very good, and there are also English-speaking staff to serve guests who do not understand Japanese.
In short, the hotel is of high standard in all aspects and I will recommend it to my friends.
Chose to stay in Takayama to explore the surrounding areas.
Pros:
1. The room was quite spacious. Although the hotel is a bit old, the age of the facilities was acceptable.
2. Breakfast was excellent and very varied. The dining hall was also large, with plenty of Japanese breakfast options to try if you're interested.
3. The hot springs have two indoor and two outdoor pools. They're very relaxing to soak in, and the space is ample.
Cons:
1. The service was very mediocre. We arrived a little after 2 PM, and the room was already clean, but they insisted we wait until 3 PM for check-in.
2. It's a bit far from dining options. Walking there once is fine, but walking out for every meal daily can be a bit tiring.
3. The room's cleanliness was average; there was noticeable dust on the furniture.
4. We paid for an extra bed for our child, but every day the staff only made up two beds. When I asked her to make up an additional one, she mentioned ”money,” so I just let it go.
This is likely the grandest hotel with the best views along the Nagara River, a true five-star property. The rooms are quite spacious; river-facing rooms offer views of Gifu Castle, while those on the other side overlook the stadium. It was undoubtedly the best value-for-money hotel I stayed at during this trip to Japan.
The Maps lead us to further location And imagine we had passed the building like 3times back and forth but didn’t know that was it. Pls update the location on the maps here on trip. Room is ok, no shower room no big issue coz we go to onsen anyway. Got buffet dinner and breakfast. But receptionist didn’t update the breakfast cut off time is 8:45am and we reach there by 8:50 its already closed. One thing about japanese onsen resort is that they will close everything in the morning to prevent customer to fully utilise the facilities for what we paid for. We usually rest on the evening the day we arrive and only use the facilities in the morning. Not really recommended here coz they really scare their customer use the facilities😂
An absolutely fantastic hotel with magnificent scenery and surroundings. It even has foot bath pools right at the entrance. Visiting during the off-season, the price was incredibly reasonable. The hot spring baths within the hotel require no extra charge. There are both outdoor and indoor pools, including options for shared and private hot springs. Any private bath with its light on is available for guests to use. However, please note that the private baths do not have shower facilities.
The hotel also organizes several complimentary activities, such as marshmallow roasting. Nestled in a forest, the views are simply breathtaking, no matter where you look.
At specific times, guests can enjoy complimentary ice cream, milk, yogurt, coffee, and afternoon tea. There's also a delicious free dinner offered at certain hours, though restaurant reservations are essential. The beautiful views from the restaurant windows make dining there an absolute delight.
The hotel offers bathrobes in a wide range of colors and patterns, allowing guests to choose according to their personal taste. While the selection for children's bathrobes is more limited (unlike other hotels that often only provide one generic style), the hotel is still very thoughtful and accommodating.

I like it
Absolutely loved it! As soon as we entered, a charming 'Showa beauty' graciously showed us around. It was very spacious and had a powerful sense of a bygone era, almost like stepping into a traditional legend. Highly recommend!
The room was unusually spacious for Japan, complete with a genkan, and had a distinctly Japanese aesthetic. From the moment you enter, it's a shoes-off environment throughout the hotel. There were also two private onsen baths with outdoor views, which immediately set a tranquil mood – it would be even better in winter! Complimentary food and drinks were a fantastic bonus: probiotic drinks during the day, ice pops and small desserts in the evening, plus late-night ramen. The hotel seems to understand its slightly remote location, so they are incredibly generous with these perks! It's a bit of a distance from Shirakawa-go, but there's a shuttle service to the bus station, which is a short walk away. Remember to snap a photo of the shuttle schedule. This place is definitely ideal for those traveling by car. The complimentary yukata rental was perfect for taking beautiful photos around the hotel!
