My first room had a spider – I looked up right before going to sleep and it was directly above my bed. I called the front desk, and they responded promptly, moving me to a different room and upgrading me to a suite. However, due to the hotel's old facilities, the windows weren't sealed properly. Since I moved in late at night, my first impression of the suite was how cold it was, I even thought the window might be open. The room was only 20 degrees Celsius. The suite was also much larger, and from 9:30 PM until 2:30 AM, even with the AC on full blast at 28 degrees, the temperature never went up; it stayed at 20.5 degrees. I was curled up in bed, but my face was freezing, LOL. The AC heating was useless; the temperature was nowhere near comfortable for sleeping. (Later, a male AC repairman with a terrible attitude came up, looking very impatient and completely unhelpful. The only useful information he provided was that the hotel's AC doesn't blow warm air until the official heating season – which is completely ridiculous, absurd, and darkly humorous. This repairman gets a huge thumbs down. The other two male staff members who helped me switch rooms had excellent attitudes.) I wanted to switch back to a queen room, but was told they were fully booked. I then wanted to check out and get a refund, but the manager said no because it was past midnight – how was I supposed to know the AC heating was just for show? I had showered and was huddled in bed, unable to sleep due to the cold, and only called the front desk when I couldn't take it anymore! That's why it was so late. 

Ultimately, I had to involve Trip.com for mediation. The afternoon of the day after I checked out, on my way home, they called and said they managed to get me a 50% refund, so Trip.com is reliable. The hotel's infrastructure, however, is terrible.

I could also tell that the duty manager that day tried her best, and as women, our communication was smoother and more comfortable. She even came over to explain the refund situation when I was on the phone in the lobby. The manager's attitude was excellent; she showed empathy. But if the hardware isn't good, it's just not good. Switching to a few more rooms wouldn't change the fact that the temperature wouldn't go up. In the end, after all that hassle, I went online at 3 AM the next day, booked a Hanting hotel, and took a taxi there. I finally got a good, peaceful night's sleep. At Hanting, the room temperature was normal for sleeping as soon as I entered – the contrast was stark. So now I understand why so many people choose newer hotels, those opened in recent years, after experiencing this myself.

This incredibly dramatic stay completely ruined my mood for exploring Beijing. I woke up after only four hours of sleep the next day and took the high-speed train home, haha. In any case, I will definitely be avoiding this place. I've given objective ratings for each module, but there's no way to sugarcoat this experience.

The hotel was beautiful. Fantastic location over looking the lake. Plenty to do in the day time for walking and the room was gorgeous. Worth it for a long weekend visit. I wished the restaurants didn't close for 3 hours in the afternoon but otherwise it was perfect. The swimming pool and spa are also very nice. It is tough to get any treatments (or boat rides) if you are pregnant though.

Yanqi Hotel is definitely my favourite hotel in this trip to Beijing. Thanks to Shirley who responded to my request for a lake view room with bathroom also facing the lake. She also took very nice family photo for us. The hotel is located at Yanqi Island and is surrounded by water. Beautiful! The interior design is also wonderful. Just can’t keep my eyes off those paintings and decorations. The corridor and rooms are very spacious. We stayed at the lake view suite, it’s beautiful. Highly recommended. We were lucky to see the sunset view at the entrance of the hotel. If you wake up early, you can also see the sunrise in the room (from the other side if the lake). On a clear day, we saw numerous stars in the dark sky. 
All staff in the hotel are helpful and friendly. They helped us with luggage, late check out , photos and others. Thanks a lot! 
Next time I will request a room on the higher floor and some rose petals decoration on the bed 😃

Great experience. Service was perfect. Yanqi Lake Boutique Hotels, managed by Kempinski are impeccable. My family stayed two nights. I've booked two rooms. One single bed and one twin beds room. Rooms were modern, clean and spacious. Clean sheets and comfortable beds. I was surprised how big and clean rooms where. Toilets were clean and specious. What you see on the pictures is what you get. More than I’ve expected. Food was perfect.  We had buffet breakfast and we could choose between western food and Chinese food. For diner we eat at the restaurant and the food we ordered was delicious. Lots of things to do around. You can visit Hongluo Temple, Mutianyu Great Wall or you can walk around hotel area and see the Yanqi Pagoda or visit International Conference Center (APEC and Belt and Road Initiative conferences were held there, and it was nice experience to visit the place where most powerful leaders in the world seated and planed the future of the world). All in all, great experience. Special thanks to Shirley Le, duty manager and to June Jian for the warm reception and their hospitality. If you want to relax and clear your mind and body I recommend Yanqi Lake Boutique Hotels, managed by Kempinski.

The hotel is excellently located with internal connection to the Dubai Mall. You can also see burj khalifer in front of you at the swimmimg pool. Enjoyed our stay and would book again in the future

The location and people are perfect. The rooms are nice. The facilities are okay. The reception were cooperating. 
I have some concerns about the brand of the hotel vs. the quality of rooms. 
I have stayed in several Kempinski hotels around the world.  This one is okay but below every other Kempinski hotel I stayed at. Here there are some comments which the hotel manager should look at such as “the shower head is fixed and not adjustable due to applying glue, dental kit is only available upon request .. )

We stayed for one night as a group of four and enjoyed close rooms on request the staff was helpful and when we told them we were celebrating my sisters graduation they didn’t hesitate to bring us a complimentary cake. The rooms are clean and the location is perfect it took us 6 minutes from our room to the mall.

It was a fabulous stay at the Kempinski Shanghai. We had enjoyed excellent services beyond par from reception to room service to breakfast.   The location was ideal to me as it was away from the bustle of Nanjing Rd but close enough to get to anywhere of interest.  What I personally enjoyed most was the morning view of the river and humming sound of the passing river vessels that greet us each morning from our hotel room.  The pathway that parallel the hotel was a great experience as we enjoy the crisp cool morning stroll .. plus it was safe and clean, the way o liked it.

Great location right in the city center, making it convenient to get anywhere. It's about a ten-minute walk to Huanghe Road, and the Shanghai Natural History Museum is right downstairs, next to the park. Even though the weather wasn't great and it rained constantly, the subway station was only a few minutes' walk away.
