"Exceptional accommodation and service! My husband and I purely enjoyed our time at Yunoshimakan. We had a room with private open air bath because of my tattoos (so public bath wasn’t an option), and it was 100% worth its price. Kaiseki dinner was excellent, the buildings are adorable, we couldn’t wish a better service. Before coming, I thought that more than 1 day at onsen is waste of time — and totally regret the hadn’t made a choice to stay for a longer time. My advice: order a taxi or ask for a transfer if you carry a suitcase. I am really sorry for my husband who needed to carry our luggage 300m upstairs."

This members-only resort where all rooms have a kitchen and some rooms have up to 3 bedrooms with a living, dining, and kitchen space can be experienced by guests for a limited time. Spacious rooms are recommended for groups. There are also rooms where guests can stay with their pet dogs, and this is the only lodging in the Gero hot spring town area with a dog run! Pets are most welcome as the lodging has plenty of exclusive amenities. The hot spring town of Gero, one of Japan's 3 most famous hot springs, is 8 minutes away on foot. null

"The service was excellent, however, the hotel breakfast was quite mediocre. The price is reasonable for Gero, and it's conveniently located very close to the JR station. Overall, it's an excellent value-for-money option, and the open-air bath was also very pleasant."

"Stayed there for two nights. In-room onsen was good, staff at reception excellent. Food was simply terrible. Rice was cold (personally it’s simply unacceptable in any Japanese restaurant except for sushi may be?), the chef seems to enjoy making fusion dishes (and except that they were unappetising). To name but a few, we had strawberry mousse for starter, tofu (which was bitter) and pickles with miso for mains, and who’d put diced apple in an apple sorbet?? (Felt as though I was biting into ice cubes). The waitress was also extremely impatient and rushed us through our meals (we finished our dinners within 35 minutes, breakfasts 20). I honestly cannot recommend this hotel. Sorry, but no."

"The train arrived at Gero Station. I originally planned to walk to the hotel, but I saw the hotel sign as soon as I got out of the station. It was quite a surprise. The check-in process was very smooth. When we went through the formalities, the luggage had been delivered to the room. Then we arranged dinner and breakfast, explained the bathing time, and ladies could specially choose their favorite bathrobes, each one was different. The only drawback was that the bathhouse on B1 did not have an open-air bath, and the men's and women's baths changed at midnight. The next morning, I got up early to go to the open-air bath on the 5th floor. The hotel also had several buses to Gero Station the next morning."

A hot spring inn located on a hill above Gero Onsen. Surrounded by rich nature, the hot spring town is full of life and becomes even more atmospheric after sunset when the lights are lit.

"I had a good time to summarize. I choose my own yukata, but when I checked in in the evening on the first day of the holiday, I couldn't choose the design or color already. Breakfast and dinner are satisfied with the Viking and eating as much as you like. A large number of stink bugs were occurring seasonally, and even though the windows were not open, they came into the room and became a disturbance. Please be careful if you go in a cool time."

"Gero Hongyekan Wanboting is really great! In Japan's three famous springs, Geroizumi, the service is very good. There is an open-air bath on the roof of a sister hotel, and there is a car to pick up and drop off at any time from 9 to 12 in the evening, which is very convenient. The water quality is so good, the sun that soaks up the skin will slide down when it falls on it. A wonderful hotel experience! The beauty at the front desk drove me out to buy urgently needed products when I was in an emergency. Every detail was great. The Japanese-style room was also spacious. I really like this place. I will definitely go again if I have a chance, and I will definitely stay here again. hotel. Breakfast is included, and the environment and ceremony are very beautiful! The hotel itself has indoor and outdoor hot springs. When it snows, get up early in the morning to soak in that outdoor hot spring, which is quiet and beautiful! Its sister pavilion has a very strange inclined elevator, and the hot spring water is the smoothest I have ever soaked in."

Gero Onsen is one of Japan's leading hot springs. Please enjoy the beautiful skin in the open-air bath where you can spend a relaxing time in the clear air.

"+ : beautiful, traditional Japanese hotel with nice tatami rooms. The room was spacious and confortable with all necessary amenities. The outdoor onsen was great and almost empty when I went. The breakfast buffet is ok. - : a LOT of stairs in the building (very difficult for elderly and disabled people, but also people with big suitcases!). There is a car that theoretically can pick you up at the train station or drop you off but I couldn’t use it when I arrived because I received no information on it beforehand or when I left because it only starts at 10am. The onsen is not tattoo friendly and you have to pay for the tattoo cover. Staff was kind but most of the time unable to offer solutions Overall, a beautiful ryokan but for the price, you can find better."

"What a satisfying trip! The duplex room had a living room on the lower level and a bedroom, bathroom, and open-air bath on the upper level, fulfilling my long-held dream of staying in a duplex. The hotel was huge, with public baths on the 2nd and 8th floors respectively. Both were large and very comfortable to soak in, but the open-air bath in the room was even more convenient and relaxing, especially in the morning while enjoying the view – a wonderful experience. The room was fully equipped. Dinner was arranged at the Western restaurant, and my husband said the sound system there was incredibly expensive. Breakfast was a buffet, mainly Japanese-style, which didn't quite suit our tastes."

AAshauk88One of our best stays during my time in Japan! The staff were very friendly. She shared with us where we should go for onsen, dinner and places to visit. Breakfast was simple but very hearty. We are touched that they considered our food restrictions and adjusted accordingly. Very thoughtful! We could also use the yucata and jacket to walk around town. Love this experience very much! The onsen is also lovely. We highly recommend this place and will definitely come back again. P.s they don't have yamato service if you need to deliver your baggage.

GGuest UserWe specifically chose Suimeikaku for our Gero Onsen trip, and it truly lives up to its reputation as one of the best onsen hotels. The grounds are expansive, featuring three distinct hot spring baths, each with its unique charm – and we tried them all! Our room was spacious and boasted a scenic balcony. The in-room bathroom also had a large bathtub. We enjoyed our kaiseki dinner in the privacy of our own room, and the service from the staff was incredibly attentive. My only slight critique would be that the cuisine was a bit ordinary. A nice touch is that the hotel offers a shuttle service to the station, which, even though we didn't use it, is definitely a plus.

NNobu IsakiThe hotel service was very thoughtful, and they even had staff who spoke Chinese. The room was very comfortable. We booked a private onsen, which was wonderful, and the room itself was spacious, bright, and fully equipped. There was plenty of hot water, and the bedding was comfortable and warm. The public bath was also clean, tidy, and well-appointed. The hotel's location is excellent, and they even provide a free shuttle bus, which was a very considerate touch. There's a Lawson convenience store nearby, making it super convenient for shopping. It was also very easy to visit the nearby Shirakawa-go village. Our vacation and leisure experience was fantastic. Both breakfast and dinner at the restaurant were abundant and delicious. Thank you for your excellent service!

GGuest UserLovely onsen ryokan. Staff don’t really speak English so there’s a bit of trying to figure things out for yourself.  Nevertheless, service was friendly and helpful as best they could.  The outdoor onsen is really relaxing and because it’s not a crowded hotel, both times I went I had it to myself as did my wife and kids in the ladies area.  We picked the room with its own outdoor onsen tub which is a great option if you don’t want to use the non-private ones.  You can apparently book private onsens but they did not have any available for us (possibly because we arrived slightly late in the day).  Food was excellent for both dinner and breakfast.  Kids couldn’t;’quite enjoy the onsens cause they found the water too hot so you may want to make sure your kids can before you decided to splurge.  One final point, the ryokan is located down a tiny road on the right just before Google Maps tells you that you have reached.

AAnonymous UserLove this hotel. Location is ideal, near to the train station with complimentary pick up, so it really helped during wintry seasons where it’s difficult to maneuver the luggage on snow covered roads. Service is comprehensive and prompt. Only gripe is that the heater in the room is not strong enough. Maybe because we stayed in a larger room. Otherwise, we love the private onsen experience, and the view is amazing. Highly recommended!

GGuest UserThis is the best onsen hotel we’ve stayed in, among those we’ve stayed in for the past 12 years! We stayed here for 2 nights. We’ve extremely grateful to the hosts for their outstanding service and hospitality from the heart. Loved the thoughtfully varied menu for each meal. The establishment is spotlessly clean and excellently maintained. Each morning, our towels and yukata (hotel gowns) were replaced. So were the amenities ( fragrant green tea packs, snacks). The housekeeping staff even offered to mop our rooms after only one night’s stay. The wifi was also fast and sustained well in the guest room and public lounge areas. There are facilities to cater to a wide range of age groups from seniors like us and children too. There were ample resting chairs in the lounge and on the way to the historian’s well as guest rooms. The best facility was the hot springs! They are exactly as depicted in the hotel website. Numerous indoor pools of various temperature all have the renowned ‘beautifying’ odorless alkaline water. My skin felt so smooth and moisturized after only one soak. What’s more the hot springs stay open for in-house guests from 10.30 am to 11 pm and day-trip visitors from 10.30 am to 8 pm. In-house guests can also use the hotsprings early from 6 to 9 am. There is a European dry sauna as well as wet steam rooms in both make and female hotspring areas. We would love to stay here again!

MM60550****Environment and Service: The hotel is quite large and relatively new, with a big courtyard perfect for a stroll. There's also a shuttle service to and from the station.
