"4.5 stars! Property is older but extremely well maintained. The corner western/Japanese rooms are spacious with two western beds and tatami area, single japanese bath and shower area and separate toilet area, mini fridge, tv, sitting area overlooking the river and table with four chairs as well as a massage chair! Onsen area has both indoor and outdoor areas separate for men and women and a cold plunge as well as multiple hot baths. Minus half a star for low staffing in the store/cafe areas (often no staff member to be found when kakigori desired), no in house lunch option and overly fatty meat on the 3rd night dinner (breakfast and dinner were LARGE and BEAUTIFUL but perhaps heavy on the yuba. Also, shuttle to the train station is only at 10 and 11am and getting cabs is difficult. However, would overwhelmingly recommend Nikko Senhime Monogatari!"

"Except for the excellent location (nearest to Tobu-Nikko Station and the buses stops to various locations and places of interest, the hotel is badly in need of upgrades for it's rooms, facilities and amenities.
The room I stayed in is big (compared to most hotel rooms in Japan) but the toilet seat cover keeps falling down while using it.
Plenty of cobwebs at corners , especially along the corridor.
The bathroom taps is like a 'makeshift' upgrade shared by basin and bathtub. See photo.
Good thing is that I can see upgrading and renovation taking place but seems like it has been going on for a very long time already."

A lounge service that allows you to experience nature as if it were a painting or a work of art, and promises a fulfilling hotel stay.
A haven (SHELTER) in nature, protected from the modern society of convenience, efficiency, and the rush for time.
The hotel is not made to be perfect, and the resulting misalignments and distortions lead to the warmth and sense of security that comes from touching natural materials.
It is a travel destination where you can encounter new values, such as "reexamining our everyday lives that have become more convenient."
"The hotel and rooms were excellent, and the dinner and breakfast we booked were plentiful and exquisite. The wine was also very good. The owner, who is also the hotel's designer, is incredibly kind and welcoming. During dinner, he went to each table to chat with guests and inquire about their dining and accommodation arrangements. The only downside is the location; it's quite far from the bus stop, requiring a long walk or a taxi ride to reach the hotel, but the experience was definitely worth it."

"The room size is comparable to typical business hotels in Japan, which was quite comfortable. There's a public bath on the first floor. Although breakfast isn't included, you can add 700 yen for a buffet breakfast, which was delicious and a much better option than eating out. The owner was also very welcoming. Even though the front desk was unstaffed between 10 AM and check-in time, there are four paid lockers outside the hotel for luggage storage. What's particularly convenient is its proximity to the station, just about a 4-minute walk, and it's also not far from the only supermarket near the station."

"The place is a 25-30 minute walk from the Tobu Nikko station, but you can actually take bus going there. However we didn't know the buses only run until 3 in the afternoon so we had no choice but to walk an uphill road. However it was a very fun experience and the hike was worth it as soon as we were able to take a rest in this humble pension house. The owner was very accommodating, gave us strawberry ice cream and even offered us a ride to the station the next morning. I would say that this place gave us the best definition of ”omotenashi”. Someday when we go back in Nikko , we'll surely stay here once again."

"I've lost.my bag in the bus when I arrived at the hotel. I immediately seek the hotel staffs for help. They were very helpful and making calls to the places that I've may have left it. Train station, bus company.
Lastly, was very lucky to have found it back. Someone picked up and passed it to the bus driver.
In Japan, there's always a chance of finding back lost item. It's very safe."

"I arrived late and thanked you for accepting it well despite the check-in time. The accommodation was spacious and clean, and the bath was good because the operation time was long."
Moutain cottage sitting in a hill of Kirifuri Plateau. Enjoy a panoramic view of Nantaisan Mountain.
"It is a lodge run by the senior madam, about 15 minutes walk from the station ~ 20 minutes.
The bath was a rock bath and was reserved (30 minutes). It was clean with a large bath.
The room was on the mountain side, so it felt a bit dark, but the bed was good.
The dinner was very delicious with charcoal-fired grilled meat and fish. The plum sake of the aperitif was also the best.
It was a very quiet and nice lodge.
Above all, Madame was a nice person."

Great
AAnonymous UserFirst of all, let me praise the hotel's service. It is simply a model. You can experience 100% care, 100% seriousness, and 100% diligence. In addition to meeting the various requirements of guests, a tip is that when you arrive at Kinugawa Onsen Station, you don’t need to take a ride. Let the hotel know in advance and the hotel will send a car to pick you up at the station. Of course, it will also be delivered to the station. In fact, the station is not far from the hotel, only a few hundred meters, and it is quite fast to walk there.
The restaurant's food quality is good, whether for breakfast or dinner, it is worthy of praise. Sometimes the restaurant is full of customers and the three waitresses keep running around. It’s so hard.
The hot spring water is so hot that I'll be sweating after a while.
The room is large in size and the facilities are average.
Because the price is not expensive, there are so many guests here that it is always full. Yes, a good hotel will naturally attract more people.
SShelby’sAlthough the hotel is a bit old, the facilities are perfect and the buffet is delicious. The best part is the open-air hot spring on the top floor; soaking in it while it's snowing is an unforgettable experience. There are also two other indoor hot springs, which are perfect.
GGuest UserBreakfast was better than dinner, but both were good. The onsen was good and clean, but I wish they provided towels at the onsen area and not having to bring our own. There were no face towels in the room. The room was old. The floor creaks. But the room was very clean. I did not smell smoke anywhere in the hotel, but it was a bit humid. The staff spoke English well. BONUS: In the game room, there is the old Pole Position car racing game and it works perfectly. Memories of my childhood. I loved this game.
The hotel price was excellent for the value.it is beside a beautiful long pedestrian bridge.
Mmeaw_socuteThis accommodation is great! However, you have to take a local train from Nikko Station and then walk about 6-7 minutes to get here. I wouldn't recommend it if you're traveling alone because the town is very quiet. It's better to come with friends or family. If you rent a car, it would be perfect as the hotel provides parking. The room itself is excellent, with a washing machine, refrigerator, microwave, rice cooker, and kettle. It even has a private onsen bath, which is a huge plus! If I visit Nikko again, I will definitely stay here. It's truly wonderful.
TThe5thStudioNestled along the shores of Lake Chuzenji, some rooms offer breathtaking views of the lake and the majestic Mount Nantai. The Japanese-style rooms are spacious, featuring tatami flooring, scenic areas, and comfortable beds, perfect for enjoying the beautiful autumn leaves! A special thanks to the two staff members, Lisz and Yuka, for their excellent service and fluent English in introducing each dish. They were truly professional!
JJ. SimonThe hotel is around 10mins walk from Kinugawa-Onsen Station. Although there are many abandoned hotels, shops, residences, buildings around the surrounding area, I can still explore the area as the street lights are lit in the evening.
The hotel is divided into different wings and occupies a large area. I stayed in the upper floors of the hotel’s main building (Kirakukan) but there’s an option to stay at the hotel’s park-cottages that is built on the cliff of the riverbank and overlooks the Kinugawa river.
The Kinugawa Park Cottage is located separately further away from the main building.
I only noticed a local Japanese family of four or five persons being escorted by the hotel staff to one of the cottages.
Other than that one-off encounter, I didn’t see anyone else at the area around the cottage which is also super quiet.
Likewise for the other wings of the hotel i.e. Kinoyakata and Kishintei, I didn’t see any guests maybe due to low season.
Love the onsen and the private open-air bath, the traditional Japanese kaiseiki breakfast and dinner.
There’s also a souvenir shop, ramen & snack shop as well as an outdoor swimming pool which I couldn’t use as it is only available for use come summer time.
Just across the road from the hotel, there’s the Waterside Cafe Terrace, a 7-Eleven convenience store adjacent to the hotel and since there’s no self-service washing machine/dryer in the hotel, the nearest 24h laundromat is around a 5-min walk from the hotel located behind the Waterside Cafe Terrace and across the road facing “Galarie Cafe Painto E”.
On the day of check-out, the hotel helped to store my luggage and I had lunch at “Suzukawa Cafe” just next to Galarie Cafe Painto E. The food prices here are slightly cheaper than the ones near Kinugawa-Onsen station.
GGuest UserI had a truly wonderful day at this hotel on March 2, 2026. The front desk staff, Ms. Qing, was incredibly professional and multilingual. She explained the hotel's policies and information clearly and politely, making me feel like I had stepped into a five-star hotel. I also enjoyed both dinner and breakfast; the food was delicious and perfectly suited my taste. Ms. Qing also handled the restaurant service, and I was amazed at how she could manage so many tasks simultaneously while providing such excellent service. She was very attentive not only to me but also to other guests, and I was extremely satisfied. The hotel was very quiet, and it was a memorable and lovely stay. I would definitely like to return when I have the time.
QQINVery good hot spring 酒店 ️ hotel, pure Japanese style, tatami. Breakfast and dinner are attentive and very delicate. 15 minutes by car from downtown Nikko, and close to the attractions of Nikko Tosho, within 20 minutes by car
GGuest UserI don’t understand why someone would leave a negative review due to their own negligence. Trip.com clearly mentioned the additional 300-yen tax (I assume this is the onsen tax) per person, yet they still claimed they were “scammed.”
My overall experience at Hotel Euro City was wonderful. The staff were extremely nice and helpful, and the shuttle bus service was amazing. If you want to get to the hotel easily, check the shuttle schedule on the hotel’s homepage so you don’t have to walk from the station. They run it every day at 9:00, 9:30, 10:00, 15:15, 16:15, 17:15, and 18:15 from “Nikko Station Hotel Classic,” right next to JR Nikko Station.
The room was spacious and comfortable, and the onsen in the backyard was great. It’s true that the room had a mild smell, but I assume it was due to recent pest control (it smelled like pesticide). Just open the windows for a while and it goes away.
Breakfast was okay—not as fancy as in the advertisements, maybe because it wasn’t peak season. Overall, I think this is a very good choice, especially if you’re traveling with family.
KevinThe most important buffet dinner during the stay was served very late, and the dishes were often empty, which is very rare in Japan.
Because it was less than 700 yuan and included two meals, although the hotel had many flaws, it was understandable, but the faucet in the room seemed to be broken, and the water flow was not smooth, which should be replaced.
Overall, this room was acceptable.
Some top places to stay in Nikko are near popular attractions like Lake Chūzenji and Nikko Toshogu Shrine—so you can quickly get to top landmarks and amenities you need.
