"The hotel itself was nice and clean. The rooms are spacious. There's a heater and dehumidifier in the room. Food is buffet breakfast and dinner.
We were in the west wing which requires a bit of a walk to get to the room. And the main inconvenience is there is a flight of stairs to get up before having an elevator to the room floor. The outdoor onsen is in a different section to the indoor onsen.
The hotel is certainly geared for skiers as everything closes during the middle of the day (souvenir shop, onsen). So make sure you have activities booked in advance.
The website of the hotel is also a bit confusing with the number in-house activities available - be sure to check with the front counter first. Peak hour staff has good command in English but need translation for night staff.
A few things of note:
- the shuttle is very busy at the 3pm and 10am run - make sure you pre-book
- there is a shuttle to tsurunoyu iriguchi onsen 鶴の湯温泉 from a bus stop near the hotel, no need to take the public bus"

"I made a reservation because I wanted to see the cherry blossoms in Kakunodate. Unfortunately, I was too early and it was farther than I thought!
The bus driver and staff were all very kind and friendly. I was touched when they waved goodbye to me on a rainy morning.
The food looked beautiful and had a seasonal feel, and the A5 rank beef teppanyaki was meltingly soft and delicious. I was also glad to have the Akita specialty kiritanpo hotpot. However, it was quite flavorful, so I thought it would have been better if they had some white rice.
You need a small towel every time you take a bath, so it's better to have two of each.

"The New Tamagawa Onsen Hotel has the same origin as Tamagawa Onsen and is famous for having the largest amount of water spray and the strongest acidity in Japan. The hot spring is the most important thing. It is a hot spring treatment area with ”the best acidic hot spring in Japan”. Its acidity is stronger than any hot spring I have ever bathed in. There are 11 types of baths (3 types of hot springs: 100%, 50%, and weakly acidic, open-air baths, and indoor natural rock baths). The bathhouse is built with cypress, exuding the cypress atmosphere. The high ceiling is a masterpiece. Sleeping on the natural rock bed indoors is a wonderful experience that can kill cancer cells in the body. The hotel is located deep in the mountains and old forests. When the maple leaves come in autumn, they are so beautiful that they are intoxicating! The Ugo Kotsu bus stop is directly in front of the hotel.
Hotel bus → Tamagawa Onsen (5 buses a day). In addition to the hotel shuttle bus, there are two other bus routes, but the time is limited, so you need to check in advance. If you take the bus, the detour is longer, about 15 minutes, but if you walk, it takes about 15 minutes, and you can drive on a basically flat mountain road. There is also a visitor center on the way, and you can enjoy the nature along the way. When we arrived at the Tamagawa Onsen Natural Research Road, we saw geothermal heat erupting everywhere and the air was filled with the smell of preserved eggs. It was a very healing Tamagawa Onsen!"

It takes about half an hour to get there by bus at Tinze Lake Station
Arrive at the ”Upper Plateau Hot Spring Station” and get off the bus and walk for about 4 minutes.

I prepared breakfast. After checking out, the boss told me in translated words that the road outside was slippery in the snow and I had to be careful. It made me feel warm."

The nearby area boasts an abundance of attractions including Nyuto Onsenkyo, 一本松温泉 一本松たつこの湯 and Ishiyama no Yu. After a long day of sightseeing, guests can retire to the comfort of the hotel. This Semboku hotel provides parking on site. Germaphobes can rest easy - the level of cleanliness is highly rated at this hotel.
"During winter, the road for the last 800 meters before reaching the hotel is closed, and you must walk in. Guests need to park at Okama Onsen first. Before arrival, you are required to inform the hotel of your check-in time so that a staff member can guide you on foot to the property. The staff will help carry your luggage, but if you have many bags, it’s best to inform them in advance.
The highlight of this stay is definitely the walk to the hotel. You walk deep into the forest along towering walls of snow on both sides, and eventually discover the onsen hidden in the woods. It feels truly special and secluded.
The lobby area is not very large, and the number of staff is quite limited, but overall the service was very good. Dinner was served at a counter bar, and the chef was extremely friendly and spoke good English. The receptionist at the lobby, who is from Taiwan, speaks English, Chinese, and Japanese fluently. She explained everything clearly, helped carry our luggage on the way out, and even assisted with clearing snow off our car.
Personally, I found the public onsen area to be a bit disappointing. The floor was icy and slippery, which felt somewhat unsafe. However, the private onsen in the room was excellent — very private, spacious for an in-room bath, with a beautiful view and wonderfully fragrant mineral water.
The room itself was spacious, quiet, and peaceful. Mobile signal does not work inside the hotel, but the hotel provides Wi-Fi, which was stable and fast.
Both breakfast and dinner were very good, and the hotel responded to emails and accommodated our special dietary requests, which we really appreciated.
The only regret was that the snow was extremely deep during our visit, making it hard to fully see and imagine the surrounding scenery."

"The location is decent. You can take the Nyuto Line bus from Lake Tazawa to the resort center station. You can either arrange for the hotel to pick you up or walk for 15-20 minutes (though it's a bit tough with luggage due to an uphill section).
The main draw of this hotel is the complimentary shuttle to Tsuru-no-Yu for an hour of hot spring bathing at 8 PM.
Dinner and breakfast are included and the food is pretty good.
The hotel service is excellent. With only a few guest rooms, it feels very private and is perfect for a relaxing stay of 1-2 nights."
