"Having stayed in Arashiyama already for 1 day at another nearby hotel, I hadn’t anticipated liking the area so much. I located Mulan Hotel and stayed in the dorm bed for 2 nights. Being the only guest there, the beds and common areas (such as bathrooms, kitchen etc) were clean. They had access to a washing machine and dryer which was appreciated after 2 weeks of travel. Presented with a discount coupon for the neighbourhood onsen, 2 minutes walk from the hotel is a must! They also have bikes for hire, which made exploring the local area and neighbourhood really enjoyable. Price is great for those on a budget. The bus stop to return to Kyoto Station is 80m from the front entrance. Be mindful its 15-20 minute walk to the major sites and main restaurants. Staff were friendly and helpful. Highly recommended and I look forward to my visit there again soon!"

"Traveling solo, this room was perfectly adequate. It was clean and the hotel's location is quite convenient. The JR and Shinkansen stations are just a kilometer away, which I believe is a major transportation hub in Kyoto, along with the subway – though you do have to walk a bit. There's a temple nearby with beautiful ginkgo trees. The lady at the front desk was lovely and provided very attentive service; simple English communication was smooth. The hotel lobby offers free tea and coffee, and breakfast is also available. I'd recommend it to anyone who needs a place to stay."

Located in Kyoto (Downtown Kyoto), Toyoko Inn Kyoto Nijojo Minami is within a 10-minute walk of Mikane Shrine and Nijō Castle. A complimentary buffet breakfast is served daily from 6:30 AM to 9:00 AM. Featured amenities include a 24-hour front desk, laundry facilities, and an elevator. Complimentary wired and wireless internet access is available. Bathrooms have shower/tub combinations and bidets. Conveniences include desks and electric kettles, and housekeeping is provided weekly.

"This is the biggest Toyoko Inn outlet I have ever been to, with a big dining area and 3-person room which is spacious and comfortable. However, having to change room in a two-night stay was inconvenient and customer-unfriendly (it was because I requested for smoking room on Day 1 and non-smoking room on Day 2 - this was simply because I didn't have a choice at the time of booking as they are always full); I tried asking to stay in the same room but was told all rooms are full. I totally understand it's a very popular outlet and fees are reasonable; however, some quick fixing to give the customers convenient they deserver wouldn't harm/take much efforts."

"I had a wonderful stay at this hotel, where the hospitality truly stood out. The front desk staff greeted me with the warmest smile one that never faded and offered an ice cold towel to wipe off the summer sweat. Such a thoughtful touch in Kyoto’s scorching heat! The room was spotlessly clean, comfortable, and provided a peaceful retreat after a long day of sightseeing. Small acts of kindness like this make all the difference, and I’m so grateful for the staff’s attentive service."

"advantage: The location is good, the attached hand soap, body wash, and shampoo are very high-end, the room is nice and tidy, the lighting is good, and the breakfast is good (meal coupon for sandwich in the cafe next door) shortcoming: There is a kitchen in the room. Occasionally, there will be a little smell wafting out, maybe a few times (I thought it was us, but it wasn't), and it is a bit inconvenient to get in and out. The door can only be closed after one person takes off his shoes and goes to the entrance, and the room The key is physical, not a card, so you have to hand it to the counter when you want to go out (be careful if you don't dare to communicate with the counter)"

"Wanting to experience a Japanese hot spring hotel, I chose this homestay, and the result was far beyond my expectations. I recommend everyone to come to this hotel. The owner is a couple who are very enthusiastic. You can use bicycles for free, help with luggage, and carefully introduce how to use the facilities and help choose yukata. The service is great. Environment: I thought it was a public bathroom, but it was very clean. There was fragrance in the air, music was played, and there was the sound of running water. The floor was very clean, and there was not even a hair. In such a hot summer, all the public areas are air-conditioned, which is very cool. The feeling of taking a hot spring bath is quite good. There is a hot spring in a small bath, which is the feeling of a very authentic Japanese hot spring hotel. The towels you need, as well as makeup remover, hair dryer, perm stuff, and shampoo and bath stuff are all available, and they are all good brands. It can be seen that they are very attentive. The most important thing is that the price-performance ratio is extremely suitable. Two dinners for two people, two breakfasts and one night's accommodation only cost more than 700 yuan, which is great. If you stay here, it is recommended to order a dinner, or breakfast at the breakfast shop. The dinner is more Japanese and delicious. In addition, it is about a ten-minute walk from the bus station, which is a good distance."

"Overall, my stay was quite comfortable, making it a great choice for business travelers who need to work on the go. The room was fully equipped with an adjustable standing desk, a large monitor, and a mechanical keyboard, providing excellent working conditions. However, this complete setup took up a significant amount of space, and I hadn't anticipated such facilities, which made the room feel a bit cramped and confining. The bathroom only had a separate shower stall, no bathtub, but toiletries and disposable slippers were well-provided. Many Japanese hotels usually don't offer slippers proactively, requiring you to fetch them yourself or not offering them at all, so this thoughtful touch was appreciated. The vanity counter was exceptionally spacious, making it easy to place personal items. The bed was soft and comfortable, offering a good rest experience. The guest rooms are in a unique location, situated above several yakitori restaurants. During dinner hours, there was a faint charcoal aroma in the air – not strong, but clearly noticeable. There's a significant time restriction: the main entrance closes after 11 PM. The building is connected to shops on the ground floor, and the front desk is located on an upper floor. After closing, there's no one at the door, so late arrivals cannot enter independently. On this occasion, I was fortunate enough to enter by following other hotel guests. The overall check-in process wasn't convenient. The location is the biggest highlight, right next to the Takase River, with exceptionally beautiful riverside views. The shops downstairs offer a rich selection, making dining out very convenient, and the surrounding commercial district is well-developed. Being close to both high-end malls and budget-friendly shops means all shopping needs can be met nearby. It's also due to this prime location that one can truly appreciate the unique beauty of the Takase River. The overall experience was decent, but the breakfast quality was outstanding. There's a dress code for dining; slippers are not permitted. You can choose between a Japanese set meal or an American breakfast set, with an additional self-service buffet area. The ingredients were carefully selected; the orange juice was freshly squeezed on the spot, and the honey was prepared right there, far superior in quality to pre-made meals. The breakfast area also offered excellent views, making for a superb dining experience. Overall, the location and meals were exceptional, but the accommodation itself was just okay."

"The room was very quiet, and the blackout curtains worked perfectly. The staff were super friendly and helpful; they even offered me an umbrella when it rained without asking for my room number, which was a lovely gesture and reminded me of the grand service of yesteryear. It's an easy walk to the bustling downtown area. Right next to the hotel is Foguang Temple, which has two huge ginkgo trees and is surprisingly peaceful with hardly any tourists."

"Although the check-in time was stated as 9 PM at the latest, I knew I'd be arriving later than expected, so I called the front desk beforehand to say I'd be there at 9:30 PM. However, when I got to Kyoto, it was pouring rain, and I got completely lost. While rushing through the streets, I called the front desk again to say I'd be another 15 minutes late. The receptionist probably heard me panting and told me not to rush and that it was okay to take my time. When I finally arrived at the hotel, I realized the front desk staff was a ********* girl who could speak Chinese, which immediately put me at ease. I'm truly very grateful to her! 🙏"

GGuest UserThe price doubles and goes up. I have stayed in this hotel many times. It always feels good. I came here again after many years and felt that the overall service and the quality of the food in the hotel were much worse. In particular, the service may be understaffed during the peak season, but it is indeed a very good hotel. Be sure not to make any mistakes when booking a hotel, otherwise he will be unkind and only care about money!

LLiujingyanWe chose a large corner room with windows on both sides. The hotel building has a history of more than 200 years. The location is great. It is right at the entrance of Kiyomizu Temple Commercial Street. It is quiet in the bustling city. The hotel is very quiet and elegant, with high-end decoration, complete facilities and excellent service! Breakfast is served in a library-style restaurant, which is very special. I highly recommend Japanese breakfast. Everyone thinks it is high-end Japanese cuisine when they post it on WeChat Moments. There are also vegetarian and children's meal options for breakfast. I also strongly recommend the window seat in the executive lounge. Drink Japanese tea or Japanese whiskey in the afternoon and look at the quaint buildings outside. It is worth the effort!

Very quiet and private. Everything in the room are complimentary :) Room: Everything's great! Onsen in room is nice! To improve: Have more hooks/space to hang clothes will be even better. Bed is too soft to our likings. We didn't use the chair in the shower area too..

GGuest UserThis hotel is located in the heart of Kyoto's main business district. The rooms on the Higashiyama side offer a direct view of the Kamo River and the eastern mountains, making for an excellent location. The hygiene is impeccable, and the service is very attentive. What's particularly noteworthy is how surprisingly good value the breakfast is. For 3800 yen per person if purchased separately, the buffet offers a rich variety of delicious food. For those of us who often feel a lack of vegetables when eating Japanese cuisine, the unlimited salad bar here is an absolute delight. Several types of small fish and the tofu soup were also unexpectedly delicious. I would definitely consider staying here again on my next trip to Kyoto.

GGuest UserThis is the kind of traditional Japanese inn I love. The bathhouse is located outside the residence, keeping the room from getting damp and clogged. There's also a sense of ritual about going to and from the bathhouse. The bathhouses are separate for men and women, and shoes need to be removed at the entrance, so if you're shy, you can avoid them by seeing slippers by the entrance. Mornings and late evenings are the most pleasant, and rainy days are especially pleasurable. The breakfast and dinner meals are even better than those at Kyoto ryokan (Japanese inns). The ingredients are incredibly fresh, and the utensils and presentation are beautiful. Sanzen-in Temple is just a short walk away, so you can go early, but I recommend Hosen-in Temple, less than 100 meters away. Refreshments are included with your admission ticket, and it's rightly called the ”Picture Frame Garden.” Sit quietly for a long day and relax.

GGuest UserMy wife and I booked the Classic Room for 3 nights in April 2025. We thought this was one of the best hotels we stayed at during our trip. From the moment you enter the hotel, you are welcomed by the hotel staff. You leave your bags with them and you walk up to a separate reception area where you are seated and offered tea and macarons. Check in is conducted while you sip your tea. After you get your keys, you go up to your room and your luggage bags are already there. We were very impressed by the reception. The room itself is fairly sizeable and offers a cabinet of Fauchon snacks. We had a good view of the alley behind the hotel that was lined with Sakura trees. We could also see the mountains in the distance. The location of the hotel is also great. It is located about a 5-10 minutes walk from downtown Kyoto and about a 5 minutes walk to Kiyomizu-gojo station. We also had breakfast which included a free flow selection of bread and pastries like French croissant, baguette and brioche. You also get a fruit plate, salad, and omelette. If you stay for more than 1 night, you also get a premium breakfast menu for your 2nd night onwards. We will definitely return to this hotel the next time we are in Kyoto.

GGuest UserWith our family of five down the mountain near the hotel price is too expensive, we accidentally found this room type, room is large, the price is close to the people, suitable for us. To reach the front desk and room, you need to climb the stairs (may be a remodeled old building, but very Japanese style). Since we drive by ourselves, we need to walk for3-5 minutes from the free parking space, but the luggage is large (next to Hankyu Busan Station), the handsome and beautiful staff are very dedicated to helping with the luggage to the room, and the Lobby puts a lot of Busan tourism information, (just happened to be summer festival, there are also Japanese nostalgic traditional gadgets for passengers. Overall, the hotel is close to the residential house but the room is very large and you can see the mountain. The environment is very comfortable and quiet. The handsome and beautiful staff wrote the thank you card before leaving the store, which made us feel sweet.

IiamnotdelicateThe basic room type isn't in the main building; you have to walk up to the main building each time to have breakfast or soak in the onsen (hot spring). And it's not a real onsen; my friend's superior room was the real onsen. We were given a small room at the back of the hotel, but thankfully there weren't too many graves. When I asked the staff at the entrance to take photos for me, they were very reluctant and had a sour face. At night, on my way back to my room from my friend's, the receptionist on duty in the lobby was also very rude. Overall, I was dissatisfied with the service. The facilities are excellent, very new, and the hotel is quite small, but that's typical for Japanese hotels. The decor is also very nice; the aesthetics are on point. There are at least three cemeteries and a bunch of shrines nearby; bring some amulets if you like.

GGuest UserHighly recommended. 1. The breakfasts are amazing. Looked forward to it every morning during the trip. 2. The room we booked includes 2 beds and 2 futons, I like that combination, suitable for the elderly who may have problems sleeping on the floor. My kids also said the futon is super comfy. 3. The location is very convenient too, within walking distance to many places of interest. 4. If you prefer to have no room service during the stay, you can also opt out of room service, and the hotel will gift you a box of cookies as a replacement for that option. I like that. 5. We booked a Kaiseiki dinner one day in advance during our stay, a bit expensive, but the experience was amazing, and we had the entire restaurant for ourselves for that dinner. But, I won't recommend booking all dinners (with the room) though, there are a lot of good meal options around the area. So definitely should explore more; must try more options in Gion as there are many amazing Japanese places within walking distance. Overall a really good experience. Thank you.

NNaxieniandeshiguangThe location is just opposite Nijo Castle, within walking distance, very convenient. Kyoto is not big, very leisurely, and the hotel is generally good to the attractions. The front desk and lobby manager are good, their English is online, very international, especially the European and American guys hired, the communication is very smooth. The facilities in the room are also good, the breakfast is also great, especially the freshly squeezed orange juice machine is quite interesting.
