"Two nights at Laochengenguan was absolutely fantastic! First, it was spotless and well-equipped. Second, the breakfast was abundant and delicious, even coming with fruit. Third, the service was truly top-notch; their patience made us feel right at home! (I booked two nights, but needed to switch rooms in between, which shows how popular this place is. However, on the morning of the second day, we were rushing to Hengshan Hanging Temple and completely forgot about the room change. The owner actually called to check if we’d like to move, as the new room was already cleaned. Of course, we happily agreed! This way, it didn't disrupt our sightseeing, and we could rest as soon as we returned! A big thank you to the owner once again! Staying at Laochengenguan is perfect for visiting attractions and shopping."

"During our trip in China this was the most memorable Hotel. The hotel was really nice in the ancient city near the Prince residence and City Walls. The building has a traditional patio inside (covered) with a pool with fishes. The room was big, the bed very comfortable, nice bathroom, the room got all we needed for the stay (fridge, tea set etc...). Everyting vas very clean and tidy. The owner is really nice and caring, she came to pick us up at the station even if was late in the evening ad took us back at the check out. She helped us with our visit and suggested really good restaurants. The breakfast is in the nice patio, it is very good and traditional. I really hope I can visit again, I will surely suggest the hotel to my friends or anyone visiting Datong. Thank You!!!"

"The hotel staff were very welcoming and friendly, and it offered great value for money (60 sqm with a bathtub). It was a perfect experience staying in a traditional Siheyuan-style building. The location is excellent – right outside are the Guandi Temple, Jinshangyun Dao Xiao Mian (knife-cut noodles), and Jiuzhe Baozi (steamed buns). Huayan Temple and Shanhua Temple are less than a 15-minute walk away, as is the scenic shuttle bus stop. The owner proactively recommended sightseeing routes and checked in about our stay. They are constantly improving their service based on guest feedback. Looking forward to staying again!"

"Incredible service, employees were all extremely kind and considerate. The room was very clean and orderly, and laundry service was extremely useful. Even though we were out of the hotel, our clothes were not only brought back up to our room but also neatly folded and hung up in the dresser. Would absolutely recommend."

"The inn is strategically located in the main area of the ancient city pedestrian street, and is very close to the main attractions of the ancient city: Yanhua Temple, Jiulong Wall, Daiwangfu, Shanhua Ancient Temple, Ancient City Wall and other attractions. It takes tens of minutes to walk to the above attractions. The layout of the inn room is reasonable, the facilities are perfect, the bathroom is dry and wet, the room is clean, the shower water is large, there is hot water 24 hours a day, the inn staff is warm and generous, and the service attitude is very good. The accommodation price is reasonable, the surrounding shopping and dining are convenient, it is a good inn to travel and live in Datong."

"Fengqi Courtyard is an absolute gem of a B&B in Datong Ancient City! From the decor and layout of the B&B's public spaces to the bedding, bathroom fixtures, and soft furnishings in the rooms, every detail meets the standards of a five-star hotel, yet offers a homely warmth. The owner's elegance and sense of fun are evident. The enthusiastic young man who arrived early to pick us up at the airport, the sweet smile and warm greeting from the front desk lady every day, the thoughtful drinks and snacks delivered to our rooms after we arrived late, and the fresh fruit and snacks quietly placed by our bedside every day—all of this added an unforgettable touch of warmth and relaxation to our Datong trip. The ”Nine-grid” breakfast here is a highlight: Almost every local Datong snack is available, and desserts from internet-famous restaurants appear in the buffet area in a new twist every day. The soy milk is freshly ground and cooked. There are vegetarian dumplings made by the owner's mother at 5 a.m., freshly stir-fried seasonal vegetables, crispy homemade potato pancakes, and refreshingly cold day lily salad... I've been eating this Nine-grid breakfast for four days straight, never repeating myself. I only regret that my stomach isn't big enough to handle it all. Yes, I saved money on lunch. The Datong specialty yellow rice jelly, knife-cut noodles, and mutton offal noodles are every bit as good as Zi Ni or Feng Lin Ge. (Just a whisper, lest the owner gets too proud.) The B&B is perfectly located: the South City Wall, Shanhua Temple, Huayan Temple, Confucian Temple, Guandi Temple, Drum Tower, Sipailou, and Nine Dragon Wall are all within easy reach. Turn left and down the steps is Sipailou Wonton—a recommended Didi pickup point. Away from the hustle and bustle of the ancient city's commercial streets, yet so close at hand. After a stroll in the evening, I came back from the small courtyard, enjoying the cool breeze and gazing at the starry sky above the courtyard. It was a truly relaxing experience. When I left the B&B, the owner personally saw me off to the station, and we chatted for 20 minutes (it couldn't be helped; the B&B is so close to the high-speed rail station). This young man loves his hometown and has unique insights and ideas about hotel management. He puts his guests' minds at ease and pays attention to every detail. I think this is the essence of doing everything well. Starting a business is not easy, but I believe Fengqi Courtyard will stand out. See you next time!"

"During my trip to Datong, I stayed at a courtyard-style guesthouse near the Drum Tower in the ancient city. The experience was truly beyond imagination and must be highly praised! This guesthouse is perfectly situated in the heart of the ancient city. From the moment I stepped into the guesthouse, I felt like I had stepped back into ancient times. The guesthouse retains the authentic, rustic charm of the courtyard, with its blue bricks, gray tiles, and carved doors and windows, exuding a sense of history. But don't let that fool you; it's fully equipped with modern amenities. The smart climate control system ensures a comfortable room temperature, and the security features provide peace of mind. Relaxing in the courtyard, I found it incredibly relaxing to sit on a stone bench under a tree, brew a cup of tea, and feel the gentle breeze. The room was warm and elegant, and the bedding was soft and comfortable, ensuring a restful night's sleep. The bathroom was spotless, and the toiletries were high-quality. The service at the guesthouse was impeccable. The staff were warm and attentive, from patiently answering questions at check-in to helping with luggage—every detail was thoughtful and attentive. They also thoughtfully recommended nearby restaurants and sightseeing spots, such as the traditional hot pot on Gulou East Street and the steamed buns at Fenglin Pavilion, both of which were particularly authentic. Furthermore, the B&B is within walking distance of attractions like Huayan Temple, the Fuwen Temple, and the Drum Tower, making it very convenient for exploring. The breakfast was also a pleasant surprise, with a wide variety, including local specialty knife-cut noodles, millet porridge, and a variety of exquisite dim sum. Staying here allows you to enjoy the tranquility and charm of the ancient city while conveniently experiencing the local cuisine and culture. I'll definitely choose this place again when I visit Datong next time!"

"Friendly staff, location is semi-central (not far from city centre and not far from the railway station (not Datongnan though). Rooms don't have any special charm (chain-style) but are well equipped and comfortable. Free washing machine & dryer. Coffee machine downstairs but bean quality doesn't shine. Did not try the breakfast"

"From the moment the B&B picked us up on the first day, we felt incredibly welcomed and cared for. The service remained exceptional throughout our four-day stay. The complimentary afternoon tea was thoughtfully prepared, and the fruit and cake were delicious – certainly not an afterthought! The B&B is conveniently located about 1 km (a leisurely 15-minute walk) from the Drum Tower in the ancient city center. You'll pass Kui Xing Tower and Daiwang Mansion along the way, making it a pleasant stroll. Alternatively, a taxi ride costs around 7 RMB. It's also very close to the North Gate, providing easy access to the city wall for cycling. The B&B was spotlessly clean. The only minor downside was that our particular room didn't come with a TV, but honestly, it wasn't a big deal at all. I haven't included photos of the B&B itself, as it looks exactly like the pictures advertised online. The picture I've uploaded is of the small wontons the 'auntie' freshly prepared and cooked for us in the morning – it truly made us feel at home. Hope to visit again soon!"
